It should be noted that the Sony IMX989 CMOS lens of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is 50 megapixels, while the AQUOS R7 is 47.2 megapixels, indicating that Sharp is using the cropped sensor. Lei Jun revealed that Xiaomi’s camera department was involved in the IMX989 specification definition and part of the design and verification work. 15 million USD was spent on IMX989 development, with Xiaomi and Sony each bearing half of the cost.
My guess is that they wanted to use the same lens as in the Aquos R6. But the R7 has a slightly larger sensor with a slightly larger diagonal, so the diagonal field of view would have been larger (18mm instead of 19mm) and there would have been maybe too much vignetting or it would be more difficult to advertise 18mm instead of 19mm.

Still, Xiaomi did a great job. They managed to make use of the whole sensor area, a feat previous 1”-typers couldn’t even do.

The Sharp does not use the full sensor I'm sure. This was mentioned last year when it was talked about with the "Leica" phone compared to the Sharp (Leica phone is just a rebranded Sharp). Does anyone know if the Xiaomi uses the full sensor ? The problem with these relatively large (for cell phones) sensors is the very short distance between the lens and the sensor. It's very difficult to get a lens to produce a circle to cover the full sensor.
Sharp phones are very interesting, I've had my eyes on them for a long time : 240hz amoled, sd card slot, headphone jack, big battery, good cameras... But they're too niche to offer much customization, i doubt you could even root them

@Ben - I am considering to buy the Chinese version of this phone or do you recommend that one waits for the international version? Actually what is the difference between domestic and international versions of smart phones? Is it just the software or is it hardware related as well (thinking about 5G)? If one buys a domestic version, is it difficult to switch to English version?
I don't know if there will be an international version. The China version can switch to English and install Google easily. Not much diff other than have to install Google first

Ah you’re a good boyfriend 😊 and your subscribers are very grateful for your late night efforts!
Yes, Xiaomi won't make mistakes as often Sharp, only sometimes the shoot result are blurry like left hand of the old man on 4:28 nice camera shootout, Ben. Take care of your health.
Xiaomi used full sensor,it's custom imx 989 while Sharp used the standard mass production
Sharp phones are very interesting, I've had my eyes on them for a long time : 240hz amoled, sd card slot, headphone jack, big battery, good cameras... But they're too niche to offer much customization, i doubt you could even root them
you need magisk twrp to root all android 11 and above these days
@@RIZFERD Couldn't you find the official rom, extract the boot img, patch it uisng magisk then flash the img ? Though even if it worked, without a proper recovery mistakes would be very costly
Its not amoled....
I would definitely be interested in seeing what the difference is between the 12S ultra and Mi 11 Ultra.
I would love to see too

QUESTION: I bought one of these phones (in Japan), (12S Ultra) using MIUI 13.0.4 and the LECIA Branding Name is NOT on the outside of the phone. The Lecia brand is only mentioned in the 2 Lecia Settings in SOFTWARE only, but Am confused as to WHY the "LECIA" Name was Not put on the phone Exterior As Per EVERY OTHER VIDEO & PICTURE OF THIS Phone FOR MONTHS (My phone has the word "XIAOMI" printed instead there. ------ I'm just confused as to- ''Why' not' the word "LECIA"? ---------- Also; P.S. My Phone also has the small wording "1- INCH" printed at the camera lens system; opposite to where LECIA should be written.
Did I buy some kind of Sample version?
ben, its really sad sharp did not increase there enginering on the software camera, and poor R6 no body remember it :(
@Ben - I am considering to buy the Chinese version of this phone or do you recommend that one waits for the international version? Actually what is the difference between domestic and international versions of smart phones? Is it just the software or is it hardware related as well (thinking about 5G)? If one buys a domestic version, is it difficult to switch to English version?
I don't know if there will be an international version. The China version can switch to English and install Google easily. Not much diff other than have to install Google first
Man I love a flat screen phone they look so much better in my opinion. I wish samsung would go back to giving us a flat 1440 screen
Sharp for a lesser known company actually did pretty good here and aren't far off from Xiaomi. If they can finely tune the software they have a hit on their hands except it doesn't have the extra lenses which is a downside.
do you have a plan for review 12s 6.2 ?
what is on top of xiaomi camera block?
I'm using the 12s ultra and love the leica authentic mode so much, so close to what u actually sees. Never gonna turn back to heavy ai processing again.
I have Vivo x80pro, shall I switch?
the R6 definitely looked better do you know if either the R6 or R7 have microSD
Yes, AQUOS R6 and R7 can use microSDXC cards (up to 1TB).
bro where can i buy sharp phone new or used can you tell me any website i am from oman.
Kudos to Sharp, it's not far behind considering its released lot earlier
No it didn't release earlier. It just went on sale like two days ago in Japan
@@bensgadgetreviews Thanks for the info Ben, i missed it👍
Is sharp r7 available in the US?
No, it forever remains a Japanese-only device.
can you capture a 240fps slow mo, then speed it up to normal then replay it on the 240hz display. i wonder how leery that would look like
Great review 👍..Ben can you put me on to this trinity electronic guys, a link on how to reach em or something
Best way to reach him is Facebook messenger. facebook.com/trinityelectronic
Now get the Xperia Pro-I and we'll have all 3 1-inch smartphones to compare!
I've seriously been trying to find comparison videos between any of these 3 devices and this is the only one I've found (thankfully from someone I trust that has been using the Xiaomi to death).
Thank you so much for this update 👍
Can do one with huawei P50 pro?
Sharp Aquos R7 design is simple...i do love it
Thanks for the interesting comparison.👍
Sleep well.😴
Awesome - Awesome - you are a legend!
This phone drain thy battery fastest when we play pubg?
How many watts charging in Aquos?
Sharp aquos r7 has a headphone jack. That's a win for the sharp for me.
Plus a flat screen! Can only dream of days when Xiaomi's flagships had those...
Leica phone and Huawei makes beautiful photos. Will you compare them to Xiaomi?
All the best Ben, stay strong!
So the Xiaomi is Sharp-er. Nice. Jokes aside, I’m trying hard not to sell my Pixel 6 Pro and order a 12S Ultra right now! I probably would’ve already done it if the Xiaomi was available in Europe, but 1. It’s quite expensive to import and 2. I’m not sure how regular softwares updates will be given they the model is Chinese…
If miui EU available use that over the china rom but you need to UBL first
@@Yoedi16 It’s too much of a hassle, mate. They just need to get it together and release the phone globally at $1,000.
Watched all your videos of 12S Ultra.
12S Ultra vs 13 Pro Max please 🤠
Sharp is better while Xiaomi tricks with contrast 😉
