- One morning at a chance meeting in Laurel Canyon, Al Kooper says to Jim Fielder, who had just lost his gig with Buffalo Springfield: “hey Jim, I’ve got an idea…why don’t you come to New York and play bass in my new band!” Thus began Blood, Sweat & Tears, a watershed collective that broadened the language of popular music. Drawing from his upright techniques and education, Jim’s approach to the instrument continues to inspire ensuing generations of bassists.
Thank you! One of the best bass players ever. It's sad there's so little videos with him on youtube.
If BS&T were in the RR HOF, he'd have alot more visibility! Jim is royalty among many of the bass players I know.
Those killer lines on “I Can’t Quit Her.” That the production allowed them to stand out was amazing for the time. Hard driving yet melodic with memorable embellishments. Love it.
Such a classic album!
Thank you for posting this! Mr. Fielder's time, sound and lines made a big impression on me- he has a soulful, swinging style that stands the test of time. Every time "Spinning Wheel" comes on the radio, I am reminded of this!
Jim helped establish the electric bass as a legit instrument!
I saw Blood Sweat and Tears at the Cafe Au go Go early 1967 open for Moby Grape Jim Fielder was great
Wish there were live recordings of this version of the band!
Great player. Totally enjoyed the interview. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!!!
