Dirona, I realize this thread is 2 years old now but, I have a 2011 FJ and I live in the US. My front seats recline much farther tan any other vehicle I have ever seen, all the back they are very near flat. I sleep very comfortable in the drive seat (or passenger seat) when fully reclined. Try it, I think you will like it, it's one of my favorite features of the FJ inside the cab. As far as the Trac. control, I can't believe Toyota did'n install a cancel switch for it. When I first got my 2011 FJ I was sliding down some very big icy/muddy hills before I learned I could disable the Trac. control. In my opinion, not being able to turn off the Trac. can put the vehicle in very serious and dangerous situations. I hate the danged thing and firmly believe if a person really knows how to drive in all types of road conditions and situations there is NO need for this feature. Instead of trying to build vehicles that practically drive themselves, people need to learn how to drive without any/ all of the features that make them easier to drive! I was about ready to sell mine until I read the owners manual about controlling the Trac. control. lol Do you still own your '08 FJ?
Dude...it's based on the FJ 40 series which had no electrics. You said you do a lot of research before you buy, so why did you buy this fantastic FJ Cruiser?
I can’t believe their are so many negative comments and dislikes. He isn’t saying he hates the car, he’s just pointing out the minor inconveniences and annoyances. I just got rid of my FJ last month to get a Land Cruiser and I completely agree with him in this video.
Merging from a left lane to a right lane is the worst part. I use my mirrors, look back, and grip the steering wheel waiting for any impact with a car in my blind spot. So far, so good. Still wouldn't drive anything else though.
I'm used to driving dump trucks and box trucks so the visibility isn't an issue for me as to day to day driving. It's just a habit for me to check mirrors even if I'm just going straight. I don't know how you have your mirrors set but you can have them set to have no blind spots.
Not sure if you guys can get them as a dealer option like mine, but maybe check ebay etc for blind spot monitor kits. Wouldnt be that hard to install, similar to parking sensors id imagine.
I've been driving Jeeps for years with windshields just like the FJs. Lets say I've learned to closely look for mud flaps, road conditions, and dump trucks and adjust following distance accordingly LOL.
I'm impressed of myself.. I literally spent 6 minutes listening to this guy bitchin' about this amazing car. I'm also impressed that his FJ have manual transmission. Uncommon type of drive for girls.
I can only imagine...have seen some pretty cool looking wildland rigs. A friend of mine worked as a hotshot for USFS for a few seasons. Your service is appreciated.
I have a 2008 and the traction control disables when I shift from 4H to 4HL so it is disabled by put it in 4HL to do my donuts and drifting in the snow.
they hardly sold any the last few years, showing man gets bored easily. Just curious tho as I have a honda elephant and sleep in the back, can the rear seats be removed to lay flat for sleeping. Doesnt look like a lot of room. Does anyone have a measurement from tailgate to back of passenger seat moved forward....Cheers and thanks
well people didn’t like them when they first came out... now people are going crazy for them, and you can tell because the cheapest ones that are in working order are high $7,000. and i have one, and the truck is small, but is very roomy on the inside! it has enough room for a 16 year old to haul friends and sports gear ( me lol ) and there are endless modifications you can do to get the most out of a relatively speaking small space
You can disable traction control by removing the fuse. I installed a kill switch on my fj that fully disables traction control, ABS and airbags. This is necessary for desert offroading.
Watch more videos. The rear bench seats pop out very easily. Then the deck lays flat. The X-Terra rear window doesn't open at all. Just drive it a while. The visibility issue changes just because You know where and how to look out. I always laugh at that statement by critics.
Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, from the research I've done, it sounds like unplugging the brake fluid reservoir sensor (which I think is what you're referring to - correct me if I'm wrong) will also disable ABS. I have yet to find a method which will disable traction control and still allow use of ABS like a true traction control button would. But again, thanks for the input!
You can disable traction control just not at the push of a button unless you wire in a switch.just unplug the pigtail on the master cylinder under hood,or put the purple wire on a switch...u can also fold the seats flat it’s just not easy, flip the seat bottoms forward and unscrew the red knob pull seat bottoms out for flat space
True, that will disable traction control but it will also disable ABS, which I don’t want to give up. Pulling the seat bottoms out does help but unfortunately there is still a sizable hump where the rear floor transitions to the back seat. Thanks for the suggestions!
Dirona thanks for making the video! just purchased my first fj this week and I’m super excited! Have you figured out a way yet to disable the tc without losing abs? Any other suggestions for a new fj owner?
@@kolourblind3124 Congratulations, enjoy! Unfortunately I have not found a way yet, if I do I’ll be sure to make a video. I posted a video a while back covering a few tips for new FJ owners so be sure to check that out!
I'm halfway to your video at your first two complaints. First, if you know anything about cars you absolutely can disable the traction control. All it takes is the installation of one button to cost about $5. And your second complaint, that is paid for you to put your Tactical toolbox or a fuel cell inside. Levels the whole thing out
Thanks for the input. I've found plenty of ways to disable traction control, but haven't found a way that still allows ABS to function like a true factory installed traction control button would...this is the first vehicle Ive owned with ABS and I think it's a great feature, so I'd prefer not to ditch traction control at the expense of ABS. And I'm with you on the second one...I do plan to build a platform/drawer system in the rear cargo area so the hump won't be a problem anymore. Thanks for watching!
there's a simple 3 wire hack that you can find here on UA-cam where you can add your own Trac off button. I did it and mounted the switch right in the factory location. Works like a charm. I also did the power rear window kit, also works great .
Good to know, thanks. There was a Black Friday deal on the rear window kit but I didn't pull the trigger on it, definitely should have. Does the 3 wire hack also disable ABS?
Yeah, I'm with you on that. #6 would be that Toyota doesn't make the FJ Cruiser anymore. I can see that over time just like the 4Runner, Rav4, Corolla & Camry that improvements and highly desirable features would be available in the newer models. Hey like there is no sun roof. What? And with the fact that there is a blind spot that they couldn't add on 'blind spot alerts' in future models. You can check out 'B is for Build' Chris made his FJ Cruiser sleepable in the back for him and his girlfriend when they go out of town.
The Manual FJ in 4H - "High" operates the same as the Auto FJ does in in 4WD mode. The 6-Speed Manual in 4H is using 4-wheels all the time with 60% Rear and 40% Front. In M/T FJ "4H" The Traction is Enabled By Default 4H -- High range gearing, center is unlocked (standard day to day driving. In 4H mode the traction is enabled by default for 6 Speed M/T FJ) 4HL (High Locked) -- High range gearing, center is locked (Traction Is Disabled By Default In This Mode and power distribution is 50% Rear and 50% Front)
If you have your mirrors adjusted properly there is no blind spot, go on the fj forums and look it up, i have a 2012 FJ with zero blind spots and stock mirrors.
I like your honesty, and honestly, I would agree completely with the things you dislike. Lol lots of people hate on the video cause they think you are bad talking the fj, but you can tell you really enjoy it by the end of the video
I have to say concerning visibility that if you put some little mirrors on your side mirrors than you should have no problems any more with blind spots. Sincerely I have a better all round feeling with my fj than with any conventional car. It's a question of adaptation. For the back I put on a rearview camera and replaced the radio with an android infotainment system. Problem solved. That it's possible to install that traction control button is very cool. I didn't know that though I never ever needed it in my 3 years of driving my fj.
Unfortunately that's not the case. To go completely flat the seat backs need to be unbolted, which is what I eventually ended up doing and built a small platform to extend the cargo area on top of where the rear seat was.
In the US, 4x4 turns off VSC as well. Not sure about the A/T traction adjustments, but this particular complaint didn't make sense to me. I would have switched it with the arms rests lol. Love the FJ's.
I've tried to send this thing sideways on gravel with VSC, I'm convinced I cannot. Takes some getting used to, I'm used to ABS, but this is my first go with traction/stability control. And yeah the back not folding flat blow for sleeping, I ended up sleeping in the driver's seat.
My biggest complaint is the gas mileage, i know its no economy car, but I figured id be able to get a consistent 18mpg on the hwy. I road trip a lot and my hwy MPG ranges from 14-19 hwy usually around 16.5 Mine is a 2013 Manual trans Trail Teams.
I'm usually around 17-18mpg on the highway using premium fuel with the manual trans. As I understand it, the automatics get better mileage because they aren't AWD like the manuals.
Dirona I understand that as well, I'm down on mileage probably because of weight from the body armour, larger tires & running 75-85 mph haha I feel these should've come with 4.10:1 gears, think it would actually help mileage (yes I know that doesn't sound right) when pulling hills at HWY speeds & with head winds because you wouldn't be giving it as much throttle or having to downshift to maintain speed. Or more power, both would accomplish the same think. I plan on regearing & supercharging eventually.
I agree, both would have been nice. Would have also been great if Toyota had installed a lower range transfer case, at least in the trail teams FJs, similar to how Jeep put 4:1 low range in its Rubicon models.
The manual trans FJs have a crawl ratio of 41.84:1 (Rubicon 84:1) I just wish they would have put a standard 2wd/4H/4L transfer case in the Manual trans FJs, I haven't yet looked to see if there is one that could be put in.
The back seats can be removed completely, if that helps. I own the same truck. I have not once wished the back window came down automatically. I mean if you are in construction maybe, how many times are you opening that window? People in general have a hard time excepting things they may not like. I look at my FJ as an FJ. It's not fancy, it's plain for a reason. Less will break in deep country warrior games. I have seen these things push so much snow in front of them, it was riding up to the windshield. No mods. Just a damn good looking FJ. I have the yellow version.
Yeah, that's what I eventually ended up doing and built a small platform where the back seat previously was. If the rear window rolled down like a 4Runner window I'd have it down whenever the front windows are down. I'm not a fan of AC and usually drive with windows down in the summer...the air buffeting on these rigs can be pretty bad.
I agree about the inability to open the rear door and window remotely or from the inside, and about the rear disability, but I have gotten used to those. I have a different list of complaints. I wish the engine had a little more power. I wish the back seat was adjustable to allow adjustment of the legroom so two adults could sit back there comfortably. Don’t get me wrong, the FJ is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Aside from these two issues I have very little to complain about.
I have a 2012 and definitely agree with you on the rear window remote issue...a real pain to have to get out to use your key to open it...other than that I really like it!
I see you have the braces for the factory rack, but no rack. Thinking of removing mine. Do you need to plug any holes in the roof? Just hoping to lighten the beast a bit and improve the 13mpg I'm getting (after tune up!). Hoping less drag helps.
Those are Yakima cross bars on the roof. The original owner ordered the FJ without a roof rack and installed the Yakima bars instead. Yes, you'd need to plug the holes where the rack is bolted to the roof but I believe you can buy a factory roof rack delete kit to take care of it.
Great! Does ABS still function? I've been looking for a hack that disables VSC and traction control without disabling ABS, like a true traction control button would function
There is no mistake on the FJ , if you find one is not for you get a Land Cruiser or an RV I have not find one in 13 years everything on that vehicle has a purpose for me.
the folding seats is also why I didn't buy one. I used to camp a lot in my 4 runner but if I can't sleep in it that makes the car lose a lot of value to me.
As I understand it, flat folding seats were one of a few features that Toyota ditched between the concept vehicle and the production vehicle. Quite unfortunate.
How is the airflow in the car with both the windows down? I feel like it’s kinda weird that only the front windows open, with like 5 feet of enclosed space
Right on. It's beyond me why different features like that were only available in certain countries when all the FJs were built side by side at the same plant in Japan.
Good honest opinions, I am toying with buying one and good to hear an honest opinion or two, interesting you have a manual one, first I've seen, unfortunately they put your wheel on the wrong side for me :)
@@dironaa with the right mods, believe it or not the big girl is fast with 33s. I do miss that, but she will still shake it with the 35s. Just does so much more off-road
Correct, but I'd really like to have the option to turn it off for normal street use. Gets a little annoying hearing the dashboard beep at you every time you hit a large pothole (they do a fabulous job maintaining the roads around here LOL)
I was like you. I was afraid of the VSC. That was until I tested it thoroughly. I had brand new AT tires for the first winter. It was a terror. I had to drive in 4Hi just to get around. Then one day I was driving home from hunting. It was a wide dirt road covered with about 6 inches of snow. I was trying to drive about 60-70 km per hour in 4Hi and it was wild because of unseen ruts that would kick the thing sideways. On a whim, I shifted it in 2Hi and the difference was amazing. All I'd hear is the VSC beeping away but it never kicked out. The second thing I learned is that VSC and ABS need some traction to work well. My second winter I installed so Nokian Hakka 5 SUV tires. The difference was remarquable. On a completely iced up road doing 70 km per hour, you can jamb the brakes AND swerve side to side with complete control in 2Hi. With these tires, I only use 4Hi in snow storm with deep snow. Otherwise its 2Hi. 4Hi disables VSC so I use it sparingly.
Mine has about 160k. Many people have put over 200k easily on their FJs. Ive owned a couple, and with an older/high mileage FJ I'd say a few of the common issues you might find are leaking roofs, failing torque converters, front "fender bulge", and seized brake calipers (I typically get 1-2 years out ofa set of calipers before they seize up and need to be replaced again). Id suggest heading over to fjcruiserforums.com for more info on these rigs.
Iv had one from new eight years ago and I'm still happy with it . I drive a work truck with tool boxes on the back so I'm used to having no vision out the back . My only two gripes are as mentioned the vision out the back especially reversing out of a 45 % parking The other is if someone parks to close and you need to get kids in out the back seat , I was single with no kids when I bought it but now I have two kids and I dread coming back to my car in a lot and some asswipe has parked too close .
Its FANTASTIC. I didnt realize how great it was until I bought a RWD automatic FJ. In the slightest bit of rain the rear tires spin on the auto, the dash starts beeping, and the engine cuts power. Sure miss that full time 4wd!
Unfortunately the red knob you're talking about only removes the lower seat cushions, it does nothing to flatten the rear cargo area. Putting an automatic FJ in 4H disables stability control, it does not disable traction control.
They are cool rigs, but I don’t understand why everyone turns a blind eye to their faults. I’ve had a fair amount of issues with mine...roof leaking in multiple places, brake calipers need replacing annually, torque converter went bad at 140k, broken teeth on the ring gear in the rear axle, and then there’s the underbody rust...
Traction control and Stability Control is on all new vehicles. I can navigate the sharpest curves and bad road conditions. Just drive it a while and it will fall into Your driving ability.
He but guess what. At least you can sell it for what you paid or more. One of the few cars who's value is going up. High mileage FJ's are selling for 90% of their origin sale price.
They do seem to hold their value, that's for sure! If you haven't watched it yet, you may enjoy this video a little more: ua-cam.com/video/cisSRx2UDaI/v-deo.html
This is a 2008. I started with 93 octane when I bought it but have slowly been working my way down to 87 and tracking the change in gas mileage as the octane is lowered, still in the testing phase but I'll probably make a video on the results at some point.
Low octane is fine, modern engines have knock or predetonation sensors that listen and tune the engine to suit. Its the ethanol shite that you dont wanna put in her but 😢
That's never really bothered me. Likely because I've been driving 2 door jeeps for years, so having any kind of access to the back seat is a big improvement lol
#1 YES YEEEEES Pulling out from a stop sign with light snow? Killing my throttle has almost killed me a couple times. Any hint of snow at low speed, I use 4WD. Tried nagging the dealer for years to install an 09 toggle, no dice. One of my very few complaints, and I bought it new in 08 as my daily driver in upstate NY (read: snow). Agree with the all of these, the window thing is annoying but I forgot about it until I saw this video, heh. Rear visibility, I used to drive truck and back in with mirrors, so it has not been an issue in 9 years of driving (no backup camera, I guess I should get one at some point!). And note: I've driven it for 9 years and have no intention of ever selling it. All gripes are secondary to how amazing it is. No idea what I would replace it with, I almost bought a 14 to wipe out 6 winters of wear.
actually i liked the video. i had a 4 runner and the rear window was such a total bonus, living on the African savanna. also good to know about the traction control issue..yes that was a good explanation, because if you are riding on thick sand on "jeep tracks" and you spot a root, or snake, or something you don't want to drive over, you need your own instinct and experience to maneuver the toyota beast quickly.
I have owned my 2009 since new. I have not once complained to myself about any of those things. The only issue is the visibility. You have to train yourself to work the views you have and use the damn rear view or side mirrors and the window openings. Nothing on my FJ has failed. And now frame rust. It still drives very smooth, quiet and capable. Why they stopped making them is beyond me. I would buy a new one quicker than a light switch. Of course it would probably would $50K today.
The computer partially disables traction control in 4 hi and fully disables it in 4 low. Later model FJs had a button to disable traction control any time you wanted, but that wasn't an option on 07s and 08s
Lmao!! For people who think this vehicle has blind spots and you can't see they need to get an eye test done I have no problem at all with mine I love my FJ nothing about it I don't like best vehicle I've ever owned hands down!!!
It's one of those things that seems like a big issue at first, but you quickly become accustomed to looking 'around' the areas with poor visibility. Something you stop noticing after a little seat time
@@dironaa a car review publication tested the vehicle at 16 mpg combined (city/hwy), and "poor fuel mileage" is all they write about all over the auto review blogs. I wasn't just dreaming that up, but glad you're happy with yours. Once another Democrat gets back into the White House and fracking and drilling becomes more limited, you'll feel the real pinch then.
Traction and stability control putting you in a ditch... You even admit that it was your fault over correcting. Secondly its not designed to be a fucking campervan that you can sleep in is it? But you guys must of got screwed on optional extras, because mine has blindspot monitor lights in the mirrors, parking sensors, electrochromatic rearview mirror with built in reverse camera. Heated mirrors, full screen in dash dvd, gps, voice control, bluetooth, seat heaters, crawl control, electronic locking differentials, front facing camera, dual fuel tanks, and i just press and hold the unlock button and the back window unlocks. It doesnt open electronically up, but it pops unlock ready to be lifted. Plus All the back windows are privacy tinted limo black from factory here where i live too. You can also remove the rear seats quite easily, but here if i did that id need a engineers cert to aprove it. But by far, these are probably the most capable, reliable and ready to go from factory toyota 4wd thats been made.
does alot of research before he bought the car: didnt fold the rear seats down to check if it was flat or not didnt check how the rear door window opened before he bought it didnt sit in the vehicle to check on the drivers visibility still buys it, looks like u didnt do enough research there aye mate? fucking drone with a camera
Go and buy something different and you will notice the you hate this world. And i can say bad about fj that there is a manual version... this is the only thing what is annoying. But were lucky that the most of them is an automatic..

4H -- High range gearing, center is unlocked (standard day to day driving. In 4H mode the traction is enabled by default for 6 Speed M/T FJ)
4HL (High Locked) -- High range gearing, center is locked (Traction Is Disabled By Default In This Mode and power distribution is 50% Rear and 50% Front)
If you have your mirrors adjusted properly there is no blind spot, go on the fj forums and look it up, i have a 2012 FJ with zero blind spots and stock mirrors.
Agreed
I like your honesty, and honestly, I would agree completely with the things you dislike. Lol lots of people hate on the video cause they think you are bad talking the fj, but you can tell you really enjoy it by the end of the video
I think you’re the only one who’s picked up on that. It really is a great all around vehicle and for the versatility it’s hard to beat!
I didn't know that though I never ever needed it in my 3 years of driving my fj.
with the seats you can turn some knobs and take the seat part out so they will go all the way flat
Unfortunately that's not the case. To go completely flat the seat backs need to be unbolted, which is what I eventually ended up doing and built a small platform to extend the cargo area on top of where the rear seat was.
Sir if u still have the car try to disconnect the gauges on the dash board from the hood where ull find all the cutout
I had the same fj turned it into a trd pro
In Saudi Arabia all 4x4 cars has a disable TC button
Lucky you guys!
@@dironaa I think you should visit us and have some fun in the desert
In the US, 4x4 turns off VSC as well. Not sure about the A/T traction adjustments, but this particular complaint didn't make sense to me. I would have switched it with the arms rests lol. Love the FJ's.
@@phillipjennings770 I think they do it here cause the Dealerships are diffrent here they change some stuff like outside/inside.
I hear ya, the biggest hesitation I had buying a manual over an auto was that it wasn't available in rwd
Nice video. Thanks
I’m thinking of trading in my 2004 Honda Element to get a FJ Cruiser your video helped me with my decision
Did you ever trade in your element for an FJ? How do you like it
Must’ve been a considerable upgrade
Its a rock magnet....I've had mine for 8 years now....I don't even bother replacing the windshield anymore. It would only get hit and crack again.
I’d do the same but unfortunately will fail or annual safety inspection with any cracks in the windshield
Valid points, I’m sure a lot of people would have been happy if Toyota offered an optional V8 in the FJ!
Give it to someone that will appreciate it!
Already sold it!
I have a 2012 and definitely agree with you on the rear window remote issue...a real pain to have to get out to use your key to open it...other than that I really like it!
These really are great rigs!
@m1cajah how much for the roof rack?
You can do a VSC hack and turn off traction control with a switch! Did it to my 07 and has worked flawlessly.
Great! Does ABS still function? I've been looking for a hack that disables VSC and traction control without disabling ABS, like a true traction control button would function
Dirona nope ABS does not work when you turn it off. I followed instructions from here ua-cam.com/video/5FLUqEIcl2Y/v-deo.html
damn that sucks about the abs. I was thinking along the same lines, i wonder if the abs turns off in my and newer models over there?
I wondee if the rearview mirror light bulbs can be changed to a brighter bulb?
They can. You should be able to find more info on fjcruiserforums.com
Nice video, is the fj cruiser requires premium gasoline?
Premium is recommended but not required. I use regular gas, not premium.
There is no mistake on the FJ , if you find one is not for you get a Land Cruiser or an RV I have not find one in 13 years everything on that vehicle has a purpose for me.
It’s surely a great vehicle
the folding seats is also why I didn't buy one. I used to camp a lot in my 4 runner but if I can't sleep in it that makes the car lose a lot of value to me.
As I understand it, flat folding seats were one of a few features that Toyota ditched between the concept vehicle and the production vehicle. Quite unfortunate.
@@dironaa if you still have it, Goose Gear makes a flat plate system. Should check it out
I actually removed the rear seat entirely and replaced it with a homemade wooden platform.
Fj is faster then a Lamborghini boi what are you talking about
Dang, I must have been confusing the brake pedal for the gas pedal all this time.
In the mud it sure as hell is!
There is a way to disable traction control. There are a few videos that show how to do it.
Unfortunately every method I've found so far also disables ABS, which I'm not willing to give up but thanks for the input
How is the airflow in the car with both the windows down? I feel like it’s kinda weird that only the front windows open, with like 5 feet of enclosed space
Complains about not back window not remotely down.... Complains about it being to controlled by electronics... Lol
Fair point. Lol
All of your complaints are Void. I bet you wish they still made it.. right?
Greg Wallace yes. Looks cool
I love the Fj in black! You are a lucky chap!
I'd like to never own another black vehicle...shows too many defects!
my 2007 has a track control button....
Lucky you. What country is your FJ from?
Dirona Canada my guy
Right on. It's beyond me why different features like that were only available in certain countries when all the FJs were built side by side at the same plant in Japan.
What towers are those up top for the cross bars?
Sold this FJ a few years ago and can’t remember the specific model, but the brand was Yakima
As soon as I get the rusty frame repaired on my 07, and figure out why the 4x4 doesn’t work, I am going to complain about other stuff.
Haha. Seems that many of these frames are starting to rust out now
Dirt rain exhaust would come in an open rear window. Why open it?
One word: Airflow. I won't open it in the rain or on dirt roads and when its open the front windows are always open so no issues with exhaust either.
Such a beautiful vehicle
Undeniable
Good honest opinions, I am toying with buying one and good to hear an honest opinion or two, interesting you have a manual one, first I've seen, unfortunately they put your wheel on the wrong side for me :)
Man I have a black 08 too. You can get passed all the safety bs. It ungoverns the motor. I run 35s on mine, straight beast
Nice, I'll be moving up to 33s in the near future
@@dironaa with the right mods, believe it or not the big girl is fast with 33s. I do miss that, but she will still shake it with the 35s. Just does so much more off-road
I believe that if you put it in 4WD Low, it should turn off traction control.
I'm in search for an FJ and found one for 12.5k that has 140k miles. My question is how long has your lasted?
Mine has about 160k. Many people have put over 200k easily on their FJs. Ive owned a couple, and with an older/high mileage FJ I'd say a few of the common issues you might find are leaking roofs, failing torque converters, front "fender bulge", and seized brake calipers (I typically get 1-2 years out ofa set of calipers before they seize up and need to be replaced again). Id suggest heading over to fjcruiserforums.com for more info on these rigs.
@@dironaa Awesome, thanks! I've heard from others to have it inspected by a mechanic before purchasing, so I may also go that route too.
Iv had one from new eight years ago and I'm still happy with it .
I drive a work truck with tool boxes on the back so I'm used to having no vision out the back .
My only two gripes are as mentioned the vision out the back especially reversing out of a 45 % parking
The other is if someone parks to close and you need to get kids in out the back seat , I was single with no kids when I bought it but now I have two kids and I dread coming back to my car in a lot and some asswipe has parked too close .
@@splashpit I use the back window .
@@ekkk9536 l have a cargo cage that you need access to the headrests to remove
How do you like the manual with all time 4wd?
Its FANTASTIC. I didnt realize how great it was until I bought a RWD automatic FJ. In the slightest bit of rain the rear tires spin on the auto, the dash starts beeping, and the engine cuts power. Sure miss that full time 4wd!
Do yr research, u can take the rear seats out with the red knob! And if u put it in 4L it automatically turn traction control offffffffff
Unfortunately the red knob you're talking about only removes the lower seat cushions, it does nothing to flatten the rear cargo area. Putting an automatic FJ in 4H disables stability control, it does not disable traction control.
Looking into buying one... great to see some critiques since all of CruiserTube raves about these!!! thanks for the tips!
Love the style of the front but the rear is horrendous.
Can’t argue with that
Traction control and Stability Control is on all new vehicles.
If you haven't watched it yet, you may enjoy this video a little more:

nice! manual, those are hard to find in fj cruisers!
True that!
any perceived negatives the FJ may have are overshadowed by the fact its a kickass suv. only competition is its sibling forerunner 👍🏽
This is true

Congrats on your XRay vision LOL
You should rename this video. I know You don't hate Your FJ. Call it 5 things I will do to improve My basic FJ - - >>>>>
What size tires are those?
265/75R16 on TRD wheels
what year is this fj? what has type do you use?
This is a 2008. I started with 93 octane when I bought it but have slowly been working my way down to 87 and tracking the change in gas mileage as the octane is lowered, still in the testing phase but I'll probably make a video on the results at some point.
Dirona oh okay. Great!! that'll be an awesome video! I'm looking into getting an fj myself in the near future.
Low octane is fine, modern engines have knock or predetonation sensors that listen and tune the engine to suit. Its the ethanol shite that you dont wanna put in her but 😢
fhhsvnggbh so grade regular 87 wouldn't damage it? even tho its recommended to put premium unleaded?
All valid points, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
So it sounds like a good car to me, those are very small issues you have
Agreed. Really had to nit pick to find these issues.
I love my FJ, but my dog hates that I can't roll the backseat windows down.
Some people have gone through a LOT of effort to change that on their rigs
Didn’t mention the back doors only opening after the front doors. That’s aggravating for me tbh
That's never really bothered me. Likely because I've been driving 2 door jeeps for years, so having any kind of access to the back seat is a big improvement lol
Ford F-150 been built like that for years....suicide little doors.
With the cult following it seems like something they could revive, but Toyota seems to have morphed it with the 4runner at this point.
do you want to sell it?
Already did! (Watch until the end of the video for a full explanation):

Number four is something I I am very concerned about
thanks dude
Thanks for watching!
Still...the pros far outweigh the cons on this beautiful machine.
Agreed, that’s why I bought it
Stick shift? I thought they were all auto
Yes sir, quite a few manuals here in the US. I wanted an automatic when I was looking to buy one, but everything that was for sale was a manual.

Low-high
Low-low
Super good control for most terrain

Man stop complaining, this is perfect for 2 people you’re not working taxi, I’m about to get one soon
My dreams of driving for Uber will never come true...
The first one is very bad you can't disable the traction control wow it's a off-road car right.
The computer partially disables traction control in 4 hi and fully disables it in 4 low. Later model FJs had a button to disable traction control any time you wanted, but that wasn't an option on 07s and 08s
This is a great 4x4

Something you stop noticing after a little seat time
@@dironaa do u know if the visibility is worse on this compared to a Camaro? Specifically the newer Camaros
I haven't driven one but based on how they look from the outside I'd suspect that the FJ has better visibility

Some stuff you complained about such as having too much electronics on it, are things that a 70 year old would complain about! :)

You should have complained about the poor fuel mileage.
Funny enough this is the most fuel efficient vehicle I've ever owned. Anything over 15 mpg is great in my book LOL.
@@dironaa a car review publication tested the vehicle at 16 mpg combined (city/hwy), and "poor fuel mileage" is all they write about all over the auto review blogs.
But by far, these are probably the most capable, reliable and ready to go from factory toyota 4wd thats been made.
does alot of research before he bought the car:
didnt fold the rear seats down to check if it was flat or not
didnt check how the rear door window opened before he bought it
didnt sit in the vehicle to check on the drivers visibility still buys it,
