I feel Jane and Lisbon had one of the best slow burn relationships. It takes time and has ups and downs, but they find a way to trust and rely on each other, eventually blossoming into something more. Episode 1.23 also sticks out for me as we witness Jane choose to shoot Hardy, his only link at the time to Red John, when he's about to eliminate Lisbon. Showing that despite Jane's earlier declarations that he would do whatever it takes to get Red John, Lisbon would never be a trade or sacrifice for that.
@@Soccerlass87 Agreed! With such a beautiful pay-off at the end too. It felt so organic and natural, unlike other tv relationships that pushed people together. Jane and Lisbon made sense, even the fact that Jane waited so long to declare himself - it made sense in the context of what his character needed to do first, and what he endured emotionally and mentally.
The series in my opinion is broken down into 3 or 4 axes Indeed, season 5 shows us how the story begins. Patrick seeks to know if the investigation has progressed and a combination of circumstances will allow him to collaborate with it. She accepts him from her team and accepts him as a person. So season 1 begins like this. But Teresa doesn't lose sight of the fact that he is arrogant and only helps if someone helps him in his quest. She forces him not to forget his fault in a certain way while helping him to move forward. This is why I think that season 1 is an axis of devotion for Patrick Besides, Patrick doesn't tell her that she is the Fairy of the North (in reference to the Wizard of Oz). Just like Dorothy, she helps and guides him. From then on, he will do everything for her and give everything for her (everything that is beautiful). He is surprised by her and seeks to know her and admires her for that. This axis will continue until season 3 From season 3 and 4 we are in the relational/professional axis. They are close and accomplices. They understand each other without the other having to say anything about what they feel. Also the relationship can deepen. Season 5 and 6, she becomes his Sabrina (in reference to Milton's poem). She becomes his savior. Their relationship evolves. Everyone becomes aware of what they feel. I think that for Patrick this awareness appears when he understands that Teresa is sad about the “love” he has for Lorelei. He realizes that Teresa doesn't just have a simple attraction but something else. And his behavior changes, he is closer and tries to touch her to reassure her while keeping her at a distance. His love for her, in my opinion, is revealed at the end of season 5 but especially at the end of episode 2 of season 6. He is upset and he is afraid. This will make him even more determined to kill Red John. Because he is a threat to Teresa. The fact that he leaves her alive is a message to Patrick "I can reach her at any time and I can reach you at any time" Also his death will be a complete deliverance. He absolves himself of his fault and saves. Which gives him the “right” to “claim” Teresa for his return. He does it because she is HIS return. While she has a distorted idea of his request. She thinks that she remains an amusement for him, a means to show off. While he gives her poles and shows his concern that she moves away from him ex: meeting with Ardiles, Pike or the desire for her to be close to him ex: the Gentry market And she blinds herself and is blinded and held in that blindness by Pike until the veil is torn. Besides, doesn't Pike say "You Won Her"? while he didn't win anything, she was the one who won from the start. It is his anchor point which will stabilize him and return to a "normal" life smoothly without plans just the natural evolution of things by accepting the risks of life. He can only live for her, he can only live with her. Without it nothing exists. Sorry it's a novel!! But there's so much to say Finally, what I find great in this series is that words in French are said. It's so rare. For a French girl like me it’s a real pleasure !
Bonjour, Lydia! I agree with you, there is so much to say about The Mentalist. It is a show that has so many levels. I believe that Patrick has felt affection for Lisbon since the first episode, and I believe that he fell in love with her between Season 3 and Season 4. But like you said, he did not move forward with his feelings because of many reasons, mainly that he still needed to kill Red John. And he didn't know what could be the result of that. Maybe he might get killed. Maybe he would end up in prison. Maybe he thought Lisbon deserved someone better. As you said, 6x01 and 6x02 show how much he loves her. The way he looks at her and takes care of her.
@@keleziz76 Bonjour Keleziz 76 !, Yes I agree. The affection is present to the extent that Teresa felt his pain, she did not feel sorry for him, she felt it was necessary to rescue him. She gave him the way to come out of his torpor. She opens a door for him, who is idle and alone. Hence the allegory of the Frog who jumps towards her. He is the frog who jumps towards her to find her haven which will allow her to heal from her wounds. She is touched but I doubt that at this moment she will understand the meaning. He on the other hand, who is sensitive, through his gesture tells him much more than what he can express. He says "sorry and thank you" And asks him this silent question "Do you accept me?" She, she, offers him a refuge: the CBI, a family: the team, a means of support and protection. And so little by little he rebuilds himself. Also, he can only like her (at first) and be devoted to her. She did more than any shrink would have done. And this is linked to the fact that she herself has experienced trauma, that she herself has after-effects, that she herself naturally knows what he needs.
@@Lydia-vv8tu I love your metaphor that he is the frog jumping towards her. It had not occurred to me, but that is a beautiful insight! I love it! Teresa helps him but also stands up for what she believes is right. I think he respects her for that. She also knows how to handle him because she raised three brothers by herself. She has that experience on how to handle boys/men and children. And Patrick sometimes acts like a little kid, so... haha =). Teresa has alot of patience. In Season 1 through Season 3, I think she doesn't love him yet. She still thinks of him as a colleague and friend. I think in Season 4, she starts to feel something. I feel like Patrick initiates all the intimate moments between them. He initiates the trust fall. He initiates the hugs and the dance. He initiates the hand-holding. He wants to touch her and feel close to her. I did a video about the trust fall (1x17). What do you think? ua-cam.com/video/KcXd2lR8C6Q/v-deo.html

This is the image that came to me in reference to the fairy tale "the toad (frog is prettier) who transforms into a swan thanks to a princess" This is what will happen to him; he will gradually transform into a swan. I find that there is a lot of allegory and the reference to William Blake is not unrelated. He respects Teresa because she is stronger than him since she has an ideal. What he lacks. He has no ideals, he is a manipulator, a crook, a scammer and therefore he is devoid of justice in the noble sense of the term. So anything goes. Besides, and to refer to your video, doesn't he tell her that she is uptight in relation to her idea of justice ! He is impressed by her righteousness and strength because she is firm with him. I think this is what he has always lacked. She is firm because, as you said, she raised 3 brothers which is not an easy task, she was "in charge of the family" which entails heavy responsibility, she was a mother. Which means that she is in a certain way a mother to him. She bullies him when necessary, admires him when it's useful, and accompanies/supports him when it's obvious. Yes indeed she appreciates him and questions it. He is an elusive free electron so it is difficult to trust him. To answer your question He cheats and acts for himself. He doesn't tell her everything and puts her in risky situations. How can we trust in these conditions? It does not meet his criteria of value. When she tells him, he is surprised because even if he cheats, he needs honesty. He bases his relationship with her on this notion. He knows she can't betray him. He cheats on purpose but refuses to harm her and will not harm her because for him, she has accepted him (accepting his bad side). It is therefore a discovery for him, hence the test. From season 4, she has an attraction to him. You just have to see his smile when he leaves the court free ep 1 season 4. She is happy for him. When we look at Patrick, we see that he rarely formalizes his feelings (affection) and that he is discreet in his expression. He becomes aware of her femininity when she tries on the bridesmaid dress at that moment she becomes a woman for him in addition to being a friend. His perception having changed, he will show his interest by getting closer to her through proximity by seizing opportunities; it is his way of meeting her and perceiving her, contact being essential. It’s a form of appropriation.
