I love that you went over DR interactions at the end. So many people think AP works as some function of raw AP, like "AP change times .5 = % damage difference", but I've said that's wrong for like 4 years now because it very obviously 'eats' or cancels out AP in the equation for damage calculations.
It's why high DR classes start having roughly the same DR as people with ~305 bracket of AP, in the low 600s, and become nearly invincible relatively suddenly as they approach the break point of equal DR to the opponent's AP.
Yep! Its really showed with the new loml crystals for pvp too, that DR builds really started reaching a point where the regular 305-309ap builds couldnt do enough anymore.
Most people are still too focused on AP softcaps, so hopefully this can help people understand that AP is still extremely important, despite those caps.

As someone who played actively till the striker patch, seeing not just a PEN boss weapon but a PEN+C20 boss weapon being obsolete in retail BDO is insane.
It's not obsolete if you have a lot of gear. a offin will give you more AP, Accuracy and fill your crit in some very expensive build.
That was a very good explanation. I'm really happy I haven't gotten to try any pen attempts for my tet blackstar weapon. The godr seems like a better option.

I've always felt that Godr was the better route to take, because like you said, small stat gains along the way. The cost doesn't matter in the end if you are progressing while going from base Godr to PEN.
Yep. Its a bit like lets say accessories. Its less expensive to go from PEN Tuvala to PEN Cres, than it is to go from PEN Tuvala, to TET Cres, to then PEN Cres down the road, but people understand why its still the better route to take.
i took the godr route and it served me well. i went all the way from base to pen with my mainhand and my awakening weapon is sitting at tet godr.

I have cr 19 kzarka dandy right now and I'm considering getting tri godr as a temporary solution but the question is will it actually enable me to get more silver on high end spots than I do on giants right now? 311/313 ap.
There once was a PVP stat manifesto years ago (cant remember fro who or if it still exists) which basicly stated the same that 1DR "removes" 1AP. If i remember right, DR did hit some diminishing returns at some point (i think to remember around the 650DR range) but rly not sure IF thats still a thing.
But ye, stats are quite the nice thing to play around with. Especially in RBF when people realize that 269AP is enough for most of the playerbase given the proper buffs and overall stats for example.

I agree apart from the godyr , if you and your friend have equally bad rng that means he doesn't succeed the godyr enchance at all and has a base godyr as well , the difference is the one with the bs will have to hit a 5% tap 1 time while your friend will have to do it 5 times

I'm at this exact moment, where i have the stacks for PEN boss weapons but was thinking there is no point and should just go for blackstar. This answers that.
Now I have a question about liquidating all my items, if i do sell all my stuff, if i wait for it all to get purchased then pop a 1 day value pack before collecting, will that work in getting 85% of the value AFTER everything has been sold?

As for your question: If you sell items on the market place, but dont collect the silver, then yes, you can save all those sales up, pop the 1 day value pack, and collect them all and have the VP work for all of it!
Of course if you sell it to an order, so you get the silver instantly, then it will not work.

On the kutum and bs subs, aren't you forgetting kutum has a bit more accuracy as well so it works for pve and pvp?
i just checked it in garmoth and it has trouble with caphras levels. i just compared a pen kzarka 0 caphras to a pen kzarka 20 caphras weapon and it doesn't do anything, so apparently 10 ap doesn't increase your dmg.
3:41 if i'm correct, that's not +30% or +40% more damage. -35% means the boss gear damage is 65% vs 100% of blackstar. I think that is +54% more damage.

As a pen succ tuvala enjoyer , do you recommend getting DUO godr main + awa, instead of tet BS? I can buy it right now, prices are almost same. Im not a huge tapper, so will probably sit on it until i can buy better or tap once in while with hammer etc. What do you recommend? I think i understood from the video that godr is the way? Thanks!

whenever i ask about godr ingame everyone tells me its a waste, so is it worth me going from my tet blackstar i just made to godr as a new player? literally graduated a couple days ago and am using the capotia accessories + jetina reform gear
You should keep your tet BS for a while. Work on your other gear abit, armor, jetina pen cres etc, and once you need some more AP, you can sell your BS and buy a duo-tet godr i would say
What about people who play awakening and go bs main hand and dande awakening to reach ap caps? Is that viable or is it better to just run the double black star?
No, thats what used to be viable to do (also what i recommend in my old gearing guide), but its no longer an option in the long run. The addition of Godr also gives blackstars those "caphra levels" for you to reach the AP brackets along the way, completely out-competing the dande/kzarkas now.
So it would actually benefit me to buy a tet baclskstar shield instead of get a c7 kutum? Because of the few monster ap it offers...?
No, thats what is NOT worth doing :) If i werent clear in the offhand section of the video i do apologize. But no, you pretty much dont want invest into a BS offhand, untill its time for a PEN - which is like the last item you would want.

I would prolly prioritize getting double bs/godr first. So if you choose the mainhand, i would make sure to save up and buy a duo godr awakening next. Then, sure, if you prefer to go the Godr upgrade patch (understanding the pro's and con's) then its well fine to trade it in yes
The only question I have here is though is the extra monster AP worth the loss in accuracy especially if you intend to PvP?
There is no accuracy loss. pen bs and c20 has exact same stats, except 2 human ap on boss weapons vs monster ap on blackstars

That‘s cool and all but you are kind of forgetting that getting to tet blackstar is just like hitting a pen and even tet blackstar costs 3 times as much as a pen kzarka. For me (with a tri blackstar) it is actually much better to go for a pen kzarka or offin next before i even get to tet blackstar, since it pushes me to 2 more ap brackets and will help me grind more efficiently to actually get the money to buy the tet blackstar next

You need to compare the prices too. tet blackstar is almost the same price as dande at c6-7 and most of the people are playing 1 tet blackstar + dande or kzarka depends on succ or awa

Yep, tripple debo (even 3x TETs, or if possible pen neck, tet belt, tet earring) is extremely potent with the set bonus. I actually cover this in my recent video where i help with viewers gearchecks.
Here's some advice. If it's absurdly expensive and well sold out relative to similar items in the cm, it's probably BIS.

I'm still using my Kzarka (c5) and my dande (c19) on a aw warrior and never found any spot where i can't grind because i don't have "blackstar". I personally don't like at all bs items and i won't use them.
Yeah I think the damage from black stars only really matters at high end spots where mobs have a lot of hp. If you are mainly just enjoying the game for what it is and still be able to grind wherever you want, black stars are useless. Might not be optimal but many people enjoy the game their own way.
@@gabmax1013 just bought a Tet bs main weapon, to test if there's any difference in dmg. At Miru, no difference. At Star's end pillars, feels like it deals 5-10% more dmg, but really if you pay attention to that.
So TRI godr pretty much not good and not worth enhancing to, just stay at DUO godr and buy TET godr for the main spec (succ/awak) and the same for the other and this should be "soft-cap" for weapons for unlucky people until that PEN BS/godr. Is that correct? Also do you have time for a min-max boss blitz video? :) with crystals/lightstones/buffs etc Thank you

Well, the duo -> tet is the best overall value i'd say, but getting a tri if that means hitting an important bracket is ofc fine too. If you want to enhance, then do that, but if you want to progress then 100% buy

I mostly grinded in Orcs, Gyfin Under and Giants using C20 Kzarka, C20 Dande and C20 Kutum and my trash loots per hour is the same with people using TET or PEN Blackstars. I am not lying, I'm serious. I use Succ Warrior to grind on those spots. Sure, in end game spots (above 300 ap spots, especially in Ulukita region), yes undoubtedly Blackstars is really the BiS weapons, but I am not grinding on those spots, so C20 PEN boss weapons is just for me.
i don't get the comparison between a PEN blackstar offhand and C20 Kutum offhand. I mean we're talking about 90B vs 125B in costs, sure blackstar is better when it's so much more expensive. and that's calculated at with 3MCaphras prices, which is currently not the case
I always keep it simple for new players: Do you want to mainly PvP? Get your C20 Kzarka/Dande and don't look back. If you enjoy PvE over PvP. Never look at kzarka or Dande and just work on your blackstar/godr.
And I'm sitting here as a returning player with a PEN Kzarka I can't sell because I enhanced it myself from the first season exchange coupon back in the day...
I'm so confused as to what I should be doing now to progress because there's a lot of time consuming stuff that seem to give good rewards like the guaranteed PEN boss and accessory quest from Jetina, but since I quit waaaaay before those were a thing, I don't know if I should pick up there or push for something better like Blackstar/Godr
It's a shame this game is so convoluted, it doesn't make jumping back in easy.

@@arenkai boss gear is obselete because they give it away for free in season gear. So the next best item is BS and Godyr. Back then Kzaraka and Dande is good to have because they were cheaper and you can hit ap brackets. But since you get them free now people simply get a tet BS or tet Godr and continue to Caphras their regular boss gear. While they try to hit pen on tet bs and godr or you simply use it at tet because it's the best for pve. Even better than dande and kzarka. The problem is PA pushes you to almost soft cap point and then the progression becomes significantly slow with all these changes. So when people say they make 1b per hour, they're at the top grind spot. The game have become easier to get soft cap but you still can't do end game content. Reason why Ator shoes and Kabua artifact is super expensive because we're all waiting for the top 1 percent of player with 700 gs to technically feed the 99 percent of player the new items. It's become a trend. I hate it.

now after I watched this video, it seems DUO godr is a better option than TET BS for the early-mid game since it has the same price on CM, and thanks to the AP cap explanation I have a better understanding of how AP cap works and tiny extra stat could boost damage on grind spot. overall great video very helpful!👍
i honestly dont get how duo godr are cheaper than tet bs on market.
What I always suggest to guildies is to buy a DUO or TRI GodR form the market and to slowly make your own BlackStar that you will tap up to PEN with overflowing resources. It's still cheaper than tapping GodR and remove the downside of being stuck at TET:BS for months.
If the duo godr can reach your next ap brackets, sure.

There are multiple progression breakpoints that require a DUO:GodR(sometime TRI) to hit especially if you are not a supper active player and won't reach PEN:BS/Debo tapping quickly.
Tapping on a back-up BS and selling the old GodR is still cheaper than tapping a GodR. Obviously, you can buy a PEN directly, but not everyone wants to do that, the casual I know want to tap once in a while for fun.

I'm at the same situation you are, but a friend told me that Pearl Abyss are making new weapons that probably will be exchange with a PEN Blackstar or PEN Boss weapon with C20. So, we still have some hope! I think they will say something about it soon (since they did all the armors upgrades already).

You can use it for now, but i wouldnt invest more into it (maybe C1 if it gives you an AP bracket). You will need to change it into a Godr or blackstar eventually, yes.

grinding is less silver than doing new region hunting, and cooking or processing AFK. KEKW also lotta AP capped spots where theres litterally 0 difference, and u make almost same silver/h that endgame spots grinders, without the risk of loosing 1billion+ crystals lmao

Technically, its 2 human dmg more - but if you ever hit a single mob while playing bdo, its not a worthly trade-off, at all!
The increase in grindspeed will mean you will get way more stats than the 2 human ap, faster, if you grind for your silver, and its not even close.
so what do i do with the PEN kazarka that i enhanced thru quests :( ?
You just keep it, and use it, untill it makes sense for you to switch to Blackstar/Godr. And when you make the switch, now you have a kzarka you can use for a boss alt or something similar! Just because you did something thats not optimal, dosnt mean its straight up bad :) You still get value out of the stats compared to having a tet kzarka!
Wish i saw this sooner i was on tap 70 pen main bs now i started over but im at tri godr main in what would my 70-75 taps for pen and made some gs gain so i dont feel like i havent progressed for months like when i came back.
Boss weapon still better than BS for the pvp if you look closely on the dammage bonus on human. But still, its rather valuable to stay on BS instead of PEN Boss beacause of the cost to C20 boss to see a difference between a PEN BS and a C20 Kzarka or dandelion. If you are worthy enough well you can have both.
Hard for me to vouch for god ay when im 67 clicks for TET god ay, not even pen with no luck
I did atleast a 20 attempts on my tet BS and I couldnt get it over... in honsety I used about 40 to 50b silver already if were counting cron stone and valks etc. And I got no progress because getting pen would put me in 296 ap bracket which is a huge increase because Im at 287 trying to hit 290 so I can do Primal Giant. After a while... Godr Ayed... was the next best choice for silver because a tet godr ayed gives 6 ap compared to other pen acc except deboreka necklace. Godr Ayed gives the most AP for silver. Its just too good of ap increase for about 50b silver. Also the fact it takes less cron, you can slowly progress it since 3 ap is not a big increase anymore. You can pretty much leave it at tet godr if you want.
I finally got full pen boss weapons and this happens. My life is easier than getting a relevant gear score in BDO...
still im using kzarka/dande/kutum for pvp, so its not useless

Bro its 2 species damage, if you think that qill make any difference in pvp then youre coping. Meanwhile you lose 50% speed in grinding emgame spots

I think boss weapons still being around but being useless is kind of the point. I guess they are supposed to be used as a safe net to still help people progress until they want to go to blackstar. Not everyone wants a black star because they are hard to enchance

In terms of stats, its only relevant for PvE. However, since you will most likely be grinding for silver to get your gear up for pvp, this is VERY important for PvP too. As long as you do PvE, even if you care only about PvP, you will want to have Blackstars / Godr's
For so long we've been grinding caphras to make pieces c20, which are not relevant anymore. Caphras' use will be limited to make c10 armor pieces and their price will go down.
So even if caphras extraction from a C20 dande was free, the loss is huge. I need to sell all these caphras (with current prices) and grind another 60b to replace it... Do you think that is worth?
This discussion is only for PVE. I personally think boss weaps are still the best for PVP. What I did is Kzarka pen c20 for main, BStar for awake and Nouver pen c20 for sub.
they are not obsolete they just arn't as good. It takes alot of time to get Black Stars or God Eyes. Yes they do more damage but its not viable for everyone
Hey Biceptimus, You forgot another key difference between the C20 Kutum and pen BS Offhand, Kutum has 2 more accuracy over the pen blackstar (As well as 5 less monster ap and dr as you stated). Like you said- Kutum is actually much better if you're still gearing up since putting caphras into your Kutum allows you to still have AP progression. I just thought I would bring more context as to why Kutum has more value since with Tet blackstar and Godr offhand, you lose the benefits of C14+ from the Kutum until you have pen BS. Even at Tri/Tet godr, you don't gain these ap bonuses from the higher kutum caphras levels until (both) either Tet Blackstar or Tri/Tet Godr is Pen.
Edit: The difference between Kutum and BS/Godr offhand is so incredibly small that Kutum is more often than not, for the still gearing player, the more efficient route.
i went godr ayed for my off hand simply because i wanted all my weapons to be purple
Had an argument with a Musa streamer that said that his C20 Dandy+Kzarka were equal to Blackstar, while he was barely scratching Dehkia Thornwood mobs. Then he said "I don't believe Musa can grind here, I won't believe it until I see it." Proved his ass wrong and he still kept his rant up.
Second point. I actually got off cheaper getting my Godr-Ayed Awakening and OH to Pen, and I was able to get access to end-game zones to get more silver quickly.
4 Clicks to raw tap BS MH Pen (not counting the 200+ clicks to get from pri to tet etc)
17 Clicks to get Tet to Pen OH Godr
12 Clicks Duo to Tri Awakening Godr
6 Clicks Tri to Tet
2 Clicks Tet to Pen Awakening Godr.

You want both BS. Monster AP is applied 100% from both weapons, to both succ and awakening.

Sold an Offin main hand a few days ago. Have never laughed so hard in my life.
An example for bad rng...I've recently hit a 400+ fs with failing with my pen bs mainhand. In the end I've just took this "L" and swapped it to GE. At least with this there will be a little progress here and there finally
If the word "PVE" was mentioned in the title, and he didnt say for 10min straight "boss weapons are not viable anymore", this video could be taked seriously. Boss weapons caphras 20 are BIS in PVP and also capped PVE, u gain 4 more species dmg (=pvp=human=demihuman=kamasylvian=animal/beasts) and 2 more accuracy than blackstars by running them, while being 60 Billion cheaper per piece, thats 180 Billion in total, that can be invested in accuracy accesories, evasion, dr, crystals, cups, lifeskill gear, capped nodewar gear, qol like good horses and a lot more. Not everyone likes to grind, and not every grinder likes endgame spots, some people also enjoys chilling on oneshottable spots/AP capped spots where having BS doesnt make ANY SINGLE difference, since they're capped and the only way to make more dmg over the cap is using c20 boss (species dmg) and some over cap items such as some accesories, crystals, artifact sets, and elixirs.
Resume: if you dont do PVE at all, you only grind easy spots, you dont do new endgame spots (basically new region/dekhia), or grinding in general is less than 20% of your daily content, is 10x times better going kzarka/offin (only on some high accuracy classes, 3 more AP and 2 more species dmg than blackstar mainhand)/dandelion/kutum/nouver.
END. Wasnt that hard talking about that in the video, but he does the same in his stream, "boss weapons dead items" "boss weapons relics of the past" "boss weapons meme" "boss weapons not viable" instead being objective on them, wich is blackstars are overrated for a lot of players he calls an "unimportant minority".
Welp this is utterly depressing. As a newish casual player I'm just working to complete the final step for the Jetina not free, "Free" boss weapon. *Le heaviest of sighs*
Its not that bad, the Jetina is very cheap for weapons, and you get a TET Blackstar at lvl 61 now for free. You can rock with that for a while, but when you are ready to invest more into your weapons, just replace the Boss Weapon with a BS or Godr! =)
What if they release FG weaps and require C20 dande/kzarka? Will it be worth it then getting it than PEN BS since it's cheaper?

I love your videos but this one could've been a 30sec short. Black Stars give you some crazy monster damage bonuses (God Versions even more). So, if you're still mob grinding at this level then BS for sure. However, in PvP C20 Pen Boss gear is more than enough to stand your ground; seeing how duels are boiled down to who gets CC'd first, then one big combo... fight over.

1 raw ap wont cost yo any bracket. You could also try an save up for a tet godr

there is, kzarka dande kutum better than blackstars, 4 more human dmg and 2 more accuracy.
Pen BS do not exist. 0/74 taps for pen bs... both my pen godr went after 4 taps, 2/8.. :(

How does this need to be explained again, For like the 97th time? The rest of us who dont run around in circles killing monsters, Kzarka/Dande works just fine and its cheaper overall, unless your carried enhancing.
How absolutely sure are you that c10 kzarka won't be changed to the next tier of weapons like the armour? "Its not viable because it's dam cheap" how is that your first line .. it's viable. Its cheap. And it works.
100% sure. If there is a new weapon like FG it will most likely follow the same pattern as the armors. PEN BS Armor = C10 = Base FG. PEN BS Weapon = c20 = base fg.
Its not viable, because i show that TET BS, which is waaaaaay cheaper than c20, is still better than c20.

TLDR : Kzarka + Dande until 4/6 Pen end game accessories. Then tet godr make's sense. I'm making the comment because I don't want people to go around thinking "my first upgrade should be my MH, AW, OH.
I don't think your video is entirely wrong and I don't mean to be critical. It's still a good video. Love your work. (definitely dropped a like) But to say it is obsolete is a bit of a stretch.
You kinda just said what i said my dude. Assuming there is a "fallen god" weapon, it may be c10 kzarka -> new weapon. It's cheap. Which makes it worth hanging on to (speculation)
The thing that you are missing imo is that this only realistically applies when you need to hit the "breakpoint" . I'm not 100% sure what this number is. (it's not the DR breakpoint) but from my "testing" on garmoth, the difference between dande+kzarka vs godr-aye/BS is practically nth (3%~9% max) until u reach the current end game spots. You would need practically full pen accessories (no, not debo necklace, just regular) before even thinking of tet godr-aye. Kzarka, dande, kutum are practically free with jetina and seasons... stick with it.
Pri -> tri godr would practically do nth for your dmg vs dande+kzarka. You're still not gonna hit the "breakpoint". at best I give you 2x tet disto + pen tungrad (rings,belt) + pen ogre before u can even consider 2x TET godr passing the breakpoint. (i say tet, because cost wise, its a more logical upgrade vs pen disto, pen debo necklace)
Yes, in the long run, c20 kzarka dande will not even remotely hit the breakpoint. u can buff yourself all u want, you're not. It is a 0 question basically useless at the very VERY top. we are talking about 70~200% dmg difference. But, until such time u Pen (end game) accessory, kzarka+dande is still your cheap, practically free weapon well into 309ap.

makes me so glad that from day dot i went into BS gear. watching people converting over and whining about how hard it is, thats too funny. imo godr is only worth getting is you need that 1ap to hit bracket ap

Boss weap C20 is only for killing players. That's all. If you are hitting high end spots, boss gear is not for you. But you are only grinding in middle-high ends and maybe some Valencia spots, and you focus on PVP stuff such as siege, node wars, guild wars, killing people in the field, arsha, you don't necessarily prepare black star weps. End of story.
As a c20 everything user my day is now ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable. I've been playing this game on and off for 7 years and still haven't paid attention to concepts like DR breakpoints. If there was an option to display damage numbers it would have given players like me a clue, but I guess that's unacceptable for a "fast-paced action MMO" for some reason.
they should buff c20 boss weapons for pvp.
