OMG, you are an incredible pianist. James Johnson is no easy feat, and I don't think there was a single missed note in that entire song played from memory. Huge ovation Stephanie!
Stephanie, you are so amazing! I love this style of music. You always inspire me to practice. I've been a classical guy all my life but now I've got to give this a try. I love jazz swing as well. Merry Christmas! You and Paolo are a lovely couple. Best!
All the Joy and extrovert spirit of Stride Piano in this amazing (and wonderfully creative) interpretation. I love it! Many congratulations, Stephanie!
I love that you keep revisiting this tune and each time you gradually incorporate James P's, then Fats', then your own stylings into this tune and do it so seamlessly. Your improvisation is so polished and authentic - I've heard strains of Lambert, Fats and Mazetier in your older recordings, but this recording, above all the others, sounds like you singing!
A few really great moments: - 0:55 loving the pseudo-sostenuto effect on the iii-IV left hand bass. So satisfying - 1:00, no one chooses to go up further than the IV in that cadence in the left. So refreshing - 2:25, section arrangement from Fats, but with a fuller right hand counterpoint in the upper ends of the piano - so, so good - 3:18, power chord stabs in the bottom to break up the oom-pah - super modern and unconventional!
This is brilliant! Really brilliant! It is rare to hear someone with fabulous classical technique play authentic stride without it being a lifeless note-exact copy or descending into the sorts of showy improvisation which ruin things.
Just before the shutdowns started last year, I was on my way to get tickets to your show at the local Methodist Church in San Diego. Hopefully you can reschedule something for the San Diego area sometime soon. (Or pretty much anywhere else in California or Arizona and I'd show up.)
Thank you so much for this kind message! We hope to return to San Diego soon! We are working on rescheduling that concert for 2022. Hopefully we'll be back to California and Arizona before too long as well!
@@StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi you're welcome the stride pianist were a big huge influence on me the big three obviously James P Willie The Lion and Fats I'm making a jazz album myself. Would you agree James P was one of the most underappreciated and underated pianist because they way you played his signature tune with such passion I feel like you'd agree he never got half the credit he really deserved?
The first time I saw you play this was on a video from about 10 years ago when you played at the West Coast Ragtime Festival, my favorite recording though was when you played in Denmark (I think).
Great job! Do you play 4 note chords in the right hand during the main melody?? The sheet music i've found has this but its extremely difficult and it seems like you and others just do 3... Think the piano roll company added notes.
Wonderful performance! As a stride lover I'm trying to learn it, but the sheet is really insuonable; the phrasing of the right hand needs an opening of the hand beyond thinkable! So I would like to ask if yours is an arrangement, because I don't think you have hands big enough to play from my own sheets. Anyway congratulations!
I used to be able to play this song 25 years ago. Not as well as course, but it’s so good to hear the stride carried on.
Love the last improvised choruses completely in the spirit of the original ones!
Thanks for brightening up a rather dull English Sunday evening. Good to hear a solo too.
The stride queen has striked again. AWESOME !!!
the Queen of stride. Your best version (IMHO.)
I feel like shouting BRAVO.
Even before hearing Stephanie perform I give the video a thumbs up because I know it will be 100% quality.

I’m shouting for more Stephanie solos!

Awesome! And I loved seeing your enjoyment in playing it.
Thanks so much!

Thank you so much!!

And you are so beautiful.

Thanks so much Erik!
Absolutely Marvelous! Really beautiful expressive and nuanced playing. Thank you for posting. Is the sheet music available for this version?
wow amazing! and so joyful
Thank you so much, Marie!
Умница.....Клас.....
Awesome playing! If only she could sing.
I felt the same about Paderewski. Oh, Ignace, if only you could blast out Camptown Races! (I used to think)

No hay otra lengua además del inglés?
Est qu'il ni a pas autre langue sauf l' anglais?
I just wish Bach could hear it 😁
Lovely but a bit slower
She plays mechanically. Might as well put on a piano roll then.
