Amazing video. I recently started hiking and rucking as a way to do cardio that wasn’t boring. I never paid much attention to how important footwear is until I took up these hobbies/activities. You’ve been a great source of information in my choices to buy footwear geared towards my goals. Thank you so much for what you do.

Thank you for watching! I did a separate review on ON as well. I think those might be best for mixed use between outdoors and regular urban day to day stuff, because their looks might easily go for a high rise fashion sneaker.

Thank you for watching! Can't beat Salomon! I am getting more and more into mountaineering stuff and I think that's where stuff from La Sportiva and Scarpa start to overtake, but for mixed hiking, trail running, backpacking... Salomon is beast!

Thank you for all your work! I am a newbie hiker and really wasn't looking for anything expensive and was kind of relying on "if it's cute, I'll get it" when choosing my shoes at first. Happy I came across your channel because your videos helped me understand the most important things to look out for, especially in terms of the sole and which ones provide more support on slippery surfaces (I live in Bavaria and we have some small waterfall tracks, etc. here). So just ordered budget-friendly (and still cute! 😆) Adidas shoes that are definitely better and safer than the ones I was originally looking at.

I disagree that Salomon Ultra 4 Mid GTX is comfortable. I've been wearing the 3 for a while before I switched to the new 4. Big disappointment. Cushioning and protection in the front-foot is non-existent - you feel every stone, even on small hikes the foot hurts, a better insole didn't resolve this - maybe the issue is present in the mid-sole as well, how much would it cost for them to add the gel as in the 3 really?! Padding on the heel is not present in the 4 and I get bruises, with thick socks it's reduced to slight pain. Padding around the ankle is so thin that when I try to tie my laces tight the metal lace hook goes into my ankle and I am forced to loosen the laces. Definitely not recommended to wear these, let alone be in the top 10.

Maybe the question is not the right one for your channel but I see that you know a lot about it and I will dare to throw it .... What I'm looking for is a mid-cut boot that is very comfortable and light to use it in the city and to do some hiking, I care much that they are comfortable as the Adidas free Hiker 2 that seem expensive ... tb there are options in Columbia, Merrel, North Face, etc etc .... I do not need them for professional mountain but as for walking in the city and outdoors. What model do you recommend and what brand? THANK YOU!!!
P.S: I was thinking about the Adidas free hiker 2 gore-tex mid ...

Hello! Can you do a comparison video about best "low profile/grey man" shoes? I really liked your video about Columbia's Fairbanks low and I am planning to buy them, I've got Columbia Peakfreak IIs last month and I am quite happy with them, but they are little to flashy/tactical for some more casual occasions like family barbecue and honestly I dont need waterproofing (in summer of course) for my everyday small town activities. Thanks! Great video by the way.

@Ultimate Survival Gear In your 3 vs 4 video you favored the X Ultra 3. What made you pick the X Ultra 4 over the 3 this time?

    • @UltimateSurvivalGear
      @UltimateSurvivalGear  Рік тому

Still love the X Ultra 3, but they are practically impossible to get these days in the right color/size. Also, I noticed that a lot of people who didn't like the narrower fit of the 3, liked the 4, because 4 is a bit more universal.

Very true. Your earlier videos convinced me to buy the 3s a while back. I tried buying a replacement pair and people are charging over $200.
I always check your channel when shopping for new boots. Thank you for the content you provide.

I recently bought Salomon x ultra 4 mid gtx the shoe is fantastic but it is not holding the ankle properly there is extra room in the backside or ankle support due to less cushioning on x ultra 4 ( i bought the 9.5 size because my foot is wide type )

Lowa Zephyr GTX Hi TF, Lowa R8-S GTC patrol, Lowa Belleville KHYBER TR550 / Hot Weather Multi-terrain Boot are actually good boots. Pretty much everything from Lowa is top tier. Don’t know about. Don’t know anything personally about Belleville. Just heard about them from respectable people.

Half way through the #8 Jack Wolfskin segment, you started showing a different boot entirely. Makes me question the validity of the entire video.

    Hi there !!!
First of all I did sense russian accent !!))
Now about boots you recommend !!
I will not buy any of them !! The all are no good all 10 of them !!! Let me explain you why !!!
They all have the same or similar shoelaces tight up desighn . Those shoelaces going through fabric or plastic loop from bottom to the midle of boot and at the top of a boot through sets of metal or plastic hooks !!! This is very poor desighn because send and dirt will packed up on your shoelaces wile you hiking and friction will tear those loops through , those hooks at the top of those boots will do the same thing to your shoelaces because those hooks are tight , and every time you tight your boots the same part of shoelace will be abused by friction on that hook. I talking of few month of everyday carrying and you will be noticed of unprepared damage !!! Any field repair to this loops will not hold up for ling , maybe one day and than all sawing will tear them even worst . Same thain with those hooks they will keep twaring your shoelaces, and there is absolutely no way to fix them , if you try to file them to smooth corners , you will do even worse by creating shapr edged scratches. !!
Only good design is metal eyelids where shoelaces go straight trough those sidelips on your boots !! That design is very forgiving on your shoelaces and much easier to repair on the field , specially if you are not just hiking for a day , but actually surviving , and covering a lot of distance on daily bases !!!!
