I became a wildland firefighter because some guy said I'd never be able to pass the test.... well......I not only passed the test, I was one of the first girls to work for Calfire as a firefighter. I love it when someone says I can't... makes me want to do it even more! Congrats on that 40!!!
I really enjoyed following your narrative throughout your 40 mile march. It was quite a gift you sharing your inner conversation with all of us. It makes your hike even more real. Thanks so much.
"Growing in my discernment." What a wonderful choice of words. You are already wise, but this kind of observation and realization are definitely taking it up a notch...or two. Btw...I love these chat's with us. It makes me think about my own decisions and gives my inner dialogues new directions to explore. Thanks!
WOW!!! That is so impressive!!! And I loved the thoughts about skipping trail magic (Self-Discipline! Determination!) and "Never Skip Trail Magic" moments later! Oh, that was so good! And I hope you get to meet Nate! This video was thoughtful, entertaining, and inspiring!
That's really great, you have a 40 miler completed. One thing that some people may not think about is the terrain you were on while walking that 40 miles with a pack on your back, probably works out to 50 miles on flat smooth ground. Keep on putting those tracks down girl.
Yes!!! Wow way to go!! 40 miles!!!! Thank you for continuing to post videos so we can "finish" this adventure with you. I've got some things to finish and push through in my own life and your self pep talks are encouraging me to give myself some of those pep talks and push through to getting a big goal done in my own life. Thank you! 😊
You are amazing Starburst !! Your determination for a preset goal,,driving onward,no matter what,,then the mention of a trail magic fan comes into mindspace and you completely rewrite the projection of a goal.......NO WONDER the creatures of the forest love you so much......YOU HAVE A HEART OF GOLD.....I haven't finished the video as yet ,,but had to interject,,,it;s no surprise that your parents are incredibly proud of you........got to get back to the video ,,the suspence of the 40 miler has me callin'..........til later..
Awe when you said this is for Chase and when you said you were going to make it but you were in pain, it looked like you were about to cry.... it broke my heart! Bless you!
Wow, 40 is a big number! Congratulations!!👍👏👏 I'd say you're ready to pass the wildland firefighter pack test: 3 miles in 45 minutes with a 45-pound pack. Now I just hope you walk the rest of the trail at a slightly lower daily mileage so you can look around and enjoy it 😀🌲🌲👣👣👣🌲
Very deep and insightful conversation about being uncomfortable. I think one thing that’s wrong with this world is that people give into their impulses when it comes to important things. But it is hard to know sometimes when it’s time to listen to your gut and when it’s time to reign it in. You were battling determination to stick to a goal and disappointing someone who meant something to you, even though you didn’t know it when you made the decision. I think that takes time to gain those insights. But the more we delay gratitude and get used to it, the happier we end up being in later years. That has been one thing psychologists are finding, so good on you for trying to stick to your determination even if it later felt like the wrong decision. It was a learning moment.
You are incredible! Unbelievable how determined you are. A true milestone you will always remember and the pain you endured. A really ugly weather day!
Good job getting the 40 miles done. Im so glad you are now able to get past a lizard more impressed with that, oh how you have grown in the past few months. Love watching you conquer your goals. You have been inspiring me to push for doing the JMT next year.
Jennifer you’re determined focus was the shining star of this episode. How do you manage those drop off cliffs along the trail? My nerves and pulse rise just watching these videos. When I think of night hiking along the rocks along the GOT terrain my stomach turns for your safety. Then I come back to the visual image of you at the terminus an know you’re home and safe. Hope you got to meet Nate and the Chase enjoyed his “40 Miles Eat Crow Pie.” Brave women you are!
40 miles.... freaking awesome! Think back to when you first started on this adventure and 12 or 15 miles seemed like an accomplishment. I know you finished the trail but it is still exciting to follow your travels. Keep the vids coming. The mental toughness and perspective on life that one gains from a through hike is something that can’t be bought and you will use throughout your life. Happy trails in life and keep stoked!
And then you walk ran the last 5 to 6 miles? Let me tell you something that was awesome I can’t think of another word for it was just completely awesome when I heard you say that. Years ago when I was in the military there were times when I had to do things like that, and then when I was the most exhausted we would find energy and surge start running etc and finish strong, you found it too. Hoo Rah Jen, Hoo Rah.
Always remember this day there is nothing that can stop you not a rainstorm not a giardia bellyache, not the tempting warm lodge with the hot coffee when you have a goal and you want to achieve it you will achieve it. I will remember this day, what an inspiration U are!!
You get 2 Stars next to your name today for completing your 40 miles/ 65 Kilometers in the face of the raining wet morning wind! Great job Mabus! 40 miles is a great accomplishment hauling a 30# pack. You did it! 🎃
🤣😂😆 Lolol.....I am commenting as I watch because I forget things I wanted to say if I wait until the end. Your new and improved version about the benefits (or non-benefits) about being disciplined is hilarious. Yep, just when you think you have things figured out, the darn Universe throws you a curve ball and laughs at our attempt to catch it. Lol...the 'chaos theory' of the universe reigns supreme! 😆
Karen W You're so funny with the immediate response. I think the same way and rarely remember my responses once the video ends, so your multiple messages are probably best 👍😀😀
Beyond awesome. I heard something about doing between 3.5 and 4 miles/hour? That is some serious high speed! By the way, even in rain the landscape looks stunning.
You go girl! Great logic/philosophy about uncomfortableness! I think you had it right the first time, rather than the “remix.” Your treasure is your spirit. You can’t get better trail magic than that!
Congrats! The most I've done on a day hike is 24.5 miles and I had to night hike because it took me so long. I could barley walk for the next two days. Then again, I'm a day hiker not a thru hiker. Awesome video.
Great job on your 40!!! Just to blow your mind, there was a hiker this year that walked 118 miles in 38 hours thru Oregon this year. where will it end? Thru hikers Rule! JT. from Oregon
WW...aka Wonder Woman! What an amazing accomplishment ... 40 day! How do you manage the cliffside trails with the huge drops? Just watching them makes my pulse race and nervous for your safety; then I come back to the realization and image of you at the terminus photo from IG; and I know you are home and well. I just keep thinking, wet rocky trail like the GOT shot; in the dark. You have bravery of steel!! Bravo again and I hope that you got to meet Nate and that Chase enjoyed his "40 Miles of Crow Pie" :)
YOU CRACK YOU UP!!!!! Ha ha ha ha ... you're so funny! Oh the trials of the trail! Thanks for making us laugh as you experience all it has for you along the way! :-)
I walked seven miles on the beach, at sea level, one time and was worn out... 40 miles!! That's awesome! I loved the rendition of "God bless America! Land of the wind and storm!" Lol!! :)
Congratulations Whimsical woman. It's nice to set goals and despite the hardships endured through to the end to accomplish what you thought you could🎶 🎯😊 Health~Strength~Safety to You🏞️🙏🎶😍✝️✨😇😇😇😇😇😇😇🗻
Holy mackerel, congrats on your 40. And good on ya for making friend Chase eat his words... with kindness, I'm sure. BTW... on a 24 hour challenge PCT thru hiker Dixie (Homemade Wanderlust on YT) did 62 miles last year. So it's doable just not for the average weekender or section hiker - you thru hikers are a breed apart.
40 miles is really good Jen, I wonder how many miles you could have done if you hadn't stopped every so often to video all this for us. Shame that guy missed you.
WOW !! What a push.....looks like Chase owes you a nice cool 40 of your choice !!....lol.. Little does he know what a motivational coach he turned out to be...tell JEN it's not do-able....then get out of the way !!! ........Stay Safe and God Bless....
Congrats on the 40. I really liked some of the breakthrough thinking in your commentary. Like putting your goal ahead of the problems (darkness, weather, aching feet) and distractions (trail magic, a comfortable stop). You've come a very long way since you started 150 days ago. I'm looking forward to the rest of your journey. Have you thought of using a spare pair of wool socks in place of the missing gloves?
Sometimes darlin'...............You Think To Much. Bless your heart. Don't plan so much, Take what the Trail has to offer as it arises and Make It Work For You. Atta Girl Jen. Happy Trails.
My ankles are sore my legs are tired just from watching. What the hell am I going to feel like when I go on my first hike in 30 years especially when the closest place to me is the Goat Rocks. How far can I go in a weekend , to Teiton Pass or Old Snowy .Well this old man has his eyes set on Old Snowy on his first hike.
The lesson I learned today is don’t forget the sunscreen when heading out kayak fishing......but I guess I could get a good nickname of raccoon since the sunglass sunburn lines, also the backs of the hand got a bit toasty but not so bad
clorine will also get on your thyroid filter it back out if you can.get a good multivite with iodine in it to be sure you get enough each day.i don't know if Sawyer filters out iodine in the natural water that you are filtering
Nice looking morning there...... Your singing proves there is such a thing as trail fatigue..... but you're getting close so hang in there Starburst!!!!!!!! Too bad you don't have a wind screen for your mic...... AND GET SOME GLOVES!!!!!! Being honest, did you think you'd ever have a 40 mile day when you started out? That is a heck of an accomplishment!!!!!! Good on you!!!!
Good job on your accomplishment! You definitely have reason to be proud. A bit of cautionary advice though..that kind of discomfort is your body's way of warning you. Hypothermia and exposure is a very real and deadly thing, so don't beat yourself up if you're cold and wet. It's more important that you make it to Canada healthy and safe, right? (Not trying to discourage you mind you. I think you're fabulous and your fortitude is enviable! Just care for yourself, that's all :) )

I keep routing for you to hit 10,000 subscribers. Been watching them from the start all those months and miles ago and they all have been amazing.
