Champion fighters can get hurt a lot too which has nothing to do with whether or not they have a decent career. He didn't say anything about Mir's career at all. He said fighters who solely rely on submissions get a hurt a lot, which is exactly what happened in this fight. It's not up for debate, that's what happened.
Eh Big John had VERY few bad nights reffing but if you had to pick one this could be one I suppose. Ian grabbed the fence to stop a takedown, and hit Frank with an illegal kick to the face while Mir worked on the kneebar, but as far as stopping it late, Frank never seemed to be completely out of it. He was gassed and hurt sure, but he gave him a chance to finish the round to collect himself. I guess he could have stopped it earlier tho. Also tho, I have no god damn clue why MMA corners NEVER throw the damn towel in. They know their fighter best, yet they never stop the fight. If the ref stops it early he gets chastised to hell and back, you'd think the corners would protect their fighters better.
@Parker no that was Ian Freeman's dad who had died either that morning or the day before but they didn't tell Ian yet... I think Mir had one of those fights were you get your shit rocked good early in the fight and it just takes everything out of you. He never seemed to really recover. Ian gave his all with his father passing and being in his home county. Mir was a bit overconfident I think. Still this was a long time ago and Mir leaned from it! Great fight still!

When usada came around fighters started having to cycle off before fights unless they could afford their own lab with specialized peds designed for their specific genome.
