I’m the same. In the 80s, I wasn’t really into the yacht rock, but as I’ve matured in my musical taste, you hear this for what it is - just brilliant music.
I can say the same about the Bee Gees. The beginnings of the disco era. I resisted for as long as I could but once I started listening to the vocals and harmonies and lost my disco phobia I found out that it wasn't that bad. LoL
Please don't forget Sigma Sound Studios, where Gamble & Huff created those sounds. Also where Bowie recorded Young Americans, Harold Melvin, O'Jays and the list goes on....TSOP, the theme song for Soul Train, was the first tv theme to top Billboard's list, written by Gamble and Huff. They literally wrote The Sound Of Philadelphia, TSOP.
Daryl Hall wasn't a backup singer for The Temptations my friend. Hall & Oates both were asked to perform at the reopening of The Apollo Theater in the mid 80's & they immediately thought of asking their childhood idols David Ruffin & Eddie Kendrick from The Temptations to join them on stage. Which resulted in an album called "Hall & Oates LIVE at The Apollo ft. David Ruffin & Eddie Kendrick." Daryl had met The Temptations & became friends with them when he was in college singing in a vocal group called "The Temptones," not "The Temptations." Just saying... Let's keep it a buck here ya dig? 😉
@ sorry Daryl hall said himself in a documentary about his life that he said that when he was younger that he was hanging around them so much behind the scenes that he new the songs and sang with them and toured with them Daryl’s words not mine maybe 🤔 you should see that documentary
Back in the day we called them platform shoes. Everybody wore them. That was the style. I know I had 2 or 3 pairs that I wore to school. Platforms and bell bottoms and you were cool. Levi super bells and when the got faded you would let the hem out.
This is one of my favorite songs from Daryl Hall. I follow him on Daryl's House on Y tube. (if you watch him doing this one on there, you'll see who Sara is)
Daryl Hall and Sara Allen were together for 30 years. And I believe are still friends. I have seen her in interviews. And she seems lovely and warm and a bit shy. One was the Hall and Oates behind the music....she old the story of Daryl presenting the song to her like a love letter. Was really sweet. Saw her once on Live From Daryl's house. I think it was the episode with Wyclef Jean
as Corey says, "so RICH"....a great song, just prior to their signature 1976 hit, "Rich Girl"...cheers to you & you bringing back all these childhood memories...
Sara Allen as well as being the inspiration for this song, was a frequent collaborator with Hall and Oates. She has credits on quite a few of their hits.
My best friend and I were such fans of Hall and Oats, even though it was a little before our time. Our parents kept their old records and we would go out to the garage and play them. This was always my favourite ❤
I got a couple of good ones you guys might wanna try 1. Leon Russel-A Song for You and Dr. John-Right Place Wrong Time. You mentioned you were looking for some hidden gems, well I think you might enjoy those two! Loving this channel!
Your little bit of singing was sounding pretty good there Corey Roy. 👍😄 I love their performance of Every time You Go Away from the live at the Apollo album.
And when you listen to this song again, make sure you listen to the full album version and listen to the end of the song. Daryl vocalises until the very end and it got cut off in this.
MY GUYS. Darryl and John had an open invitation to the picnic. Sara Smile was played on Black radio. They were referred to as Blue eyed soul. Great music and groups came out of Philly. Darry and John, Frankie Beverly and Maze. Darryl wrote about his experiences. Rich Girl is a song about dating a rich girl. They still perform together.
Back in the day, we thought they were black . I loved them, my first concert in Saint Louis with my best friend in middle school. He used to sing with black chairs with his mom, Hall. So gifted.
I am hopping on here again since it's your latest reaction to tell you about someone else I'm sure you've never done and it is a band from Australia called the teskey brothers and they are old-time soul❤❤ believe me you were blown away by Allen Stone you will be blown away by the teskey brothers the first reaction you should do is to their song rain and you will be hooked I guarantee it❤❤ have a blessed day
***** Straight outta' PHILLY! the Best SILLING DUO ever! 34 of Their Singles CHARTED. Genuine blue eyed soul along with MICHAEL McDONALD, BOZ SKAGGS, BOBBY CALDWELL & others.
Was listening to CDs (yeah I’m old lol)with my buddy. He was a hip hop head. Putting Hall and Oats greatest hits in and he was like nah I want some soul. First track started playing and he was yeah I remember this song I love it. Then he preceded to say that 6-8 more tracks. lol.
The last time the duo performed was in October 2022. In November 2023, Hall filed a lawsuit against Oates for trying to sell his share of Whole Oates Enterprises to Primary Wave Music without consulting Hall. Hall was granted a temporary restraining order to prevent the sale. Oates has said he's "moved on" and that he no longer finds it interesting to play their old hits.
I used to sing this song all the time when I was pregnant with my oldest and then after she was born. Yes of course I ended up naming her Sarah with an H. She’s 36 now and I still cry every time I hear this song. Good choice you guys classic genres from back in the day.
Man Olliwood no doubt the 70’s def had some “Lift” shoes going on! Also check out those Hi-Tech 1975 microphones 🎤 wow look like something you talked in on a tape recorder
I was in Jr. High-school and dating a girl named Sarah. This song came out and I bought the album. Played that song to death. Every time I hear it I think about her.....

Back in the day, I was not into them. As I've matured, they are everything. So good.
Back in the day I could appreciate them as well as so many others - some music is for listening, dancing or trippin...lol
I’m the same. In the 80s, I wasn’t really into the yacht rock, but as I’ve matured in my musical taste, you hear this for what it is - just brilliant music.

Doing the lords work my brother.
My wife is pregnant. Her fetus has this on his playlist.
The Philadelphia Sound personified in Hall and Oates!
Please don't forget Sigma Sound Studios, where Gamble & Huff created those sounds. Philly’s finest!!! Sara Smiles and Rich Girl are my favorite from our local boys!
I'm 72 and hearing the music from my youth fills my heart mind and soul with all kinds of feelings
When Daryl Hall was younger he sang and toured with The Temptations as back up singer that why he has so much soul
I imagine he had to have some soul to be a background singer for the Temptations
Wow! I didn't know that.
Daryl Hall wasn't a backup singer for The Temptations my friend. The definition of smooth
Hall & Oates have the record for the most hits by a duet.
Back in the day we called them platform shoes. Everybody wore them. That was the style. I know I had 2 or 3 pairs that I wore to school. Platforms and bell bottoms and you were cool. Levi super bells and when the got faded you would let the hem out.
And to "O", platform shoes were the s**t back in the day! The fact that they added height to him was just icing on the cake! 😊🙌
Oh yeah! EVERYBODY was wearing platform shoes! LOL
We called the shoes he’s wearing “Stacks” we all were rocking them jawn in the 70’s…. Philly’s Finest
Platform shoes!
This was an awesome song, played frequently on the radio back in the day. I feel like a teenager again 💐 ❤.
Always loved them..
This is one of my favorite songs from Daryl Hall. I follow him on Daryl's House on Y tube. (if you watch him doing this one on there, you'll see who Sara is)

Hall and Oates are truly legit. So many great songs hate to see they aren’t getting along today.
My best friend and I were such fans of Hall and Oats, even though it was a little before our time. Our parents kept their old records and we would go out to the garage and play them. This was always my favourite ❤

They still perform together.
They haven't performed since October 2022. There's a bit of a feud.

Smoove af. Hall and Oates are the real deal. Their band was tight as a tick. Thank y'all for the listen. Y'all know your music. I just subbed.
Still one of my all time favorite songs
This legendary Philadelphian soul sound was a big hit played all over just about every radio station.
I didn’t appreciate them growing up as I was so focused on 70’s and 80’s rock - so talented and such good music
I remember going to buy the 45 back in the day. Great memories. Always love Corey’s love for music, it really shows in these reactions.
This is my favorite song of theirs.
1975 indeed. I was in junior high❤
Grew up listening to H&O. This was my favorite.
Thanks for this. This is my favorite from them. Such a smooth vibe 😌 Great reaction and Peace out 🙏 ☮️ ✌️
"Them light skin boys have SOUL!!!"
FYI Daryl Hall is about 70 years old and still rocks it on Daryl's House❤❤❤😊 you should check out some of the songs he did with cee Lo Green 💚💚💚💚

One on one is another great one
That was a live action, but the recorded version or original record was playing.
Yep what I thought also.
Yeah definitely mimed over the single for the video, but the original is perfect as it is so no problem for me.
This is what I call synergy. Please do do WHAT YOU WANT, BE WHAT YOU ARE - live. It's up there with Sarah for me.
SMOOTH SOUL R&B
Absolutely 🔥
Man Olliwood no doubt the 70’s def had some “Lift” shoes going on!
Also check out those Hi-Tech 1975 microphones 🎤 wow look like something you talked in on a tape recorder
Big hit in my high school days. A popular group.
I was waiting on you guys to review this. 💯💯💯
Hall and Oates, One on One.
I was in Jr. High-school and dating a girl named Sarah. This song came out and I bought the album. Played that song to death. Every time I hear it I think about her.....
In the spirit of Philly greats, FLY BIRDS FLY! 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
This is my favorite H&O song, until the next one starts.
Nice throwback!
