2023 and I am just seeing this. Thank you for sharing! Is you mobile shack in the same configuration now 7 years later or has it evolved? Getting ready to setup my jeep, but am looking for a better mobile HF radio (the FT-8900 hardly counts as HF to me anymore... especially FM only :( I love the look of the 857)
Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. I still use the sam 2m/440 Diamond antenna and the FTM-400. I also use the ATAS-120A antenna, but I have switched out the FT-857 for the FT-891. I do not have the CW key in the car. Sometimes I still carry an HT with me. Usually the Yaesu FT-5. I no longer have the car shown in the video I moved up to a truck.
@@WJ6FRadio nice. I am currently looking for a good HF mobile to pair up with the 400xdr I just got over the weekend. Had my eye on a ft-100d, and a couple others. I love the look of the 857d, at this point about anything with a remote head will suffice. (Prefer Yaesu) all of it is going in a jeep wrangler.
very nice and clean mobile shack. I'm new on the ham radio and i bought a yaesu FT857D as well. I'm thinking to install the rig in my car because I have a lot (9+) QRM in this area. Because of your video i will buy a ATAS 120A as well. Thanks for the good advice..73 from the Netherlands
Very nice setup sir. I am planning to use a FT-8900R for 2M/400 and a FT857D for HF. A couple of other comms I currently run are a Midland MXT400 dedicated for FRS/GMRS, a Cobra 29 for CB which I'm going to swap out for a Uniden 980 SSB and a Uniden BCD536HP for monitoring certain bands/frequencies.
Is your lift gate metal or ABS Plastic. I have a 2021 Honda CRV and I like that idea to mount a dual band antenna, but the lift gate is not metal. I have a sun-roof, I don't want to drill a hole in the roof, so I use a mag-mount NMO with a Larsen 2m/440 antenna for the time being. My rig is an FTM 400 XDR. Still works. Nice setup. I was curious as to what type of mount you are using for the head units on the radios. I couldn't quite tell how that was done. Thanks for posting your video.
Thank you for the comment and for taking the time to watch! I use a LIDO LM-801EXP with a piece of 2x4 attached to the top. Since I wanted to be able to remove the remote heads I mounted the Lido in a piece of drain pipe from Home Depot. I have since painted the wood and pipe black.
