And with sex and romance there’s always something to “chase” after, products to sell to “help” you with that chase (at least until the goalposts move lol), and so on. It’s like sex and romance is such a multi-million dollar industry that nobody even gives platonic relationships any priority anymore 🙃
@@Q.Q.Kachoo no, this absolutely makes sense. Social media plays a big part too, I suspect. People put intrinsic value in being in a relationship and being desired. Without trying to sound like a b00mer, social media has largely sort of corrupted the idea of platonic relationships, because there is this idea that there must always be some ulterior sexual, romantic or otherwise exploitative motive.

I don't want to taint the purity of someone who just found out the fanfics are real, but there was a girl who forcibly read a fanfic ABOUT THEM aloud TO THEM in front of a CROWD at a DragCon panel in like 2017 and it WAS filmed but they cut it out of the official DragCon UA-cam video. I think there is still an audience member's video floating around, if you really want to feel the heat of second-hand embarrassment, look it up. They asked her not to, and she did it anyway, and it's the most awkward uncomfortable shit I have ever seen in my whole life.
