I remember watching this video for the first time years ago when i was still a kid and hearing this melody accompanied by these beautiful visuals. I always came back to this video and found something special in it. Now im 17 approaching adulthood and this past week i decided to watch Evangelion in it's entirity including the anime, EoE and the rebuild films and what a journey it was. I don't watch anime and i never thought a piece of entertainment could affect me this much. The transition from childhood to adulthood was and still is very hard for me and i think many can relate with my struggles. I found myself relating to the characters in Evangelion providing me comfort. Now that it's over i feel mixed emotions: happines, comfort but also sadness and nostalgia, i cant seem to let go of these feelings and i dont know why, maybe i long to experience it for the first time again. The visuals in the old anime but also the new movies are stunning and they fit the story and characters so well. I don't know why im writing this comment maybe i just want somebody i can share this experience and relate with. If you're reading this, i hope you find a purpose and happiness in this lifetime. When I first finished evangelion, they gave me many sensations, too many, I wanted to tell my friends to see the anime, but at the same time I didn't want them to feel everything I was feeling at the time, evangelion really explodes your head
I was telling my friend about it and she asked me what series I was talking about and I was so reluctant to tell her. We’ve both had our low, low’s in the past two years and I’d hate to recommend this series to someone that’s going through a tough time (ie. loneliness, depression, anxiety, etc.) because of its themes that could amplify those feelings.
After watching Evangelion precisely because of this edit... I think I understand better why the first half of this edit resonates so much more than the second. The second half is just what people often think Evangelion is- the mech fights, the glamour, the popular appeal to what anime fans want. But the first half works not just because there is more editing, but because it is the essence of Evangelion- the emotional, thoughtful half. The part people need.
Of course it's fine to have one part of the amv resonate with you more, but I think both halves work well together. The first half highlights Evangelion's central themes of social conflict and isolation, then the second revels in the cathartic power, grace and social cooperation that comes from piloting the evas. The tension followed by release is why this amv is so gripping.
@@aroniax7571 okok i gotchu ok so i just finished watching right and the reason why i loved it is because i knew what was going on, the last 2 episodes skip everything like all the stuff that glues the whole story together into one marvellous plot, but without that information those last 2 make no sense, basically a whole lot happens between ep 24 and 25 that explains whats seele, whats gendos plan whats instrumentality, and for that you need to either watch the movie EndofEvangelion that takes place between ep 24 and 25 but has a different ending to what is there in the show but still covers the important stuff between 24 and 25, thereby allowing you to rewatch 25 and 26 actually building the entire story in your head and understanding it now and witnessing the show's ending. Or what i did was actually i didnt plan on seeing eva right so i had seen this one neat 52 min eva recap that was an absolutely *religious* experience(metaphorically, i aint actually religious) but yeah despite it being a recap with a guy speaking over it that was the moment i fell in love with the show and about a year later i just finished watching it and omg despite knowing what stuff was it had been a while since i d seen the recap so it didnt detract anything from the show at all, i absolutely adored it and actually loved the ending now. its a rather complicated show in the fact that not everything is straight forward and im guessing i got lucky but others only got to experience its beauty in rewatches after actually evading confusion, like everything builds together as you watch it and begin to piece things and see the beauty of it all and yeah If you already know all this then my comment has been of no use but uhhh if you dont i hope i could help you find out for yourself as to why this is an absolute masterpiece(in my opinion) and is the closest piece of human art that covers the very fundamental part of what is a human and what being human means

This is Japan’s most brilliant sci-fi. Eva tackles some heavy themes that aren’t often talked about in other shows because they don’t wanna take high risks. The characters are all flawed and well written. It makes you feel terrible things but also gives a valuable lesson that it is ok to feel that way. This edit always reminds me why this show was so great. Oh yeah did I forget to talk about the visuals and atmosphere?

It's a corner stone of the mecha and psychological genres. Make sure to watch the original series not the remakes, they smoothed out all of the grittyness that made it so emotionally compelling.

Yeah for me when I got into evangelion I didn't like the look but it grew on me and I now love it even more than the rebuild movie's(btw not trying to dis the rebuild movie's because their fight scenes are gorgeous in their own right.)
Don't you think that Evangelion is like a picture of the world with depression or other mental disorders? Bandages, escalating atmosphere, conflict with parents, an isolated world that is constantly in danger and forced to defend itself. The fact that Shinji had to get into the robot and fight, it seems that a person has to get up and, through force, fight his condition, his psychological injuries. I don’t want to dramatize too much, but the fact that when Shinji and the others entered the robots, they sank into some kind of liquid and started to fight, it was like a psychotherapy session, when a person plunges into his past memories and again faces danger.
This is such a perfect AMV. The anime selection, the scene selection, the beat, the editing. The ambience is just perfect, well for the first half at least. I keep coming back. When the scenes turn to action and Gambino's lyrics come on, the magic breaks, but at least there's over a minute of a perfect calm sorrow.
It's mostly down to personal preference. Most older animes don't actually look that good to me, like some of the other 90's era mechas I just can't watch because of their art styles (macross seven, MS nadesico, infinite ryvius) although some of the works of art that came out of the 90's are beautiful with their bleaker tones, firmer outlines and shading it all looks alot more uniform and put together in my opinion. Modern anime seems to be alot more delicate and uses less defined features compared to the characters and settings of 90's anime. Over the years the market has changed and like all art things go in and out of fashion, styles change. It is without a doubt though the 90's was the beginning of the animated media technological breakthrough and some absolute gems were created in that time. If you like the evangelion art style I suggest you try some similar anime like outlaw star, Turn A gundam, The 08th MS team, Ninja Scroll, cowboy bebop, Ghost in the shell. They all have that 90's anime charm that we all love.
When I first saw this edit, I was like "oh wow this anime is so cool! I wanna watch it!" 5 years later, 26 episodes, four movies and the mangas I can say that Evangelion has scarred me for life lmao

just finished this anime, it's so real yet surreal. The art is beyond its years just as the uniqueness and creativity is. Despite being a work of fiction, it was grand and made me realize some things. For whatever reason I tend to attract the people who do not mind talking about their problems despite me despising talking about my own. And I've always thought "Why are they so open with their problems? How can one "complain" so much? But this anime made me think "maybe me hiding my problems actually makes me the weaker one." And these people more than likely are seriously struggling." At the end of the day, I believe it's jealousy. Why? I am not sure.

But honestly, I didn't understand the meaning of anime, like many, many, many others... This anime reveals a person, a lot of people. Neon Genesis Evangelion will always be relevant. Doesn't matter if its years or decades, the effect that it had will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of its viewers. And yes i am talking about all the depression and existential crisis it left me with, but they made me realise alot of things (and made me more dead inside). Eva will always be my favourite anime of all time.

Watching evangelion for the first time as an adult made me so glad I never watched this while I was younger. This show makes me glad I’m not depressed anymore, and that I’m not 16 anymore.
I remember watching this edit for the first time in 2020 and discovering my love for Neon Genesis and hip-hop music. Childish Gambino's vocals and the imagery of the edit drew me to this anime, and is now my favorite of all time. Or what i did was actually i didnt plan on seeing eva right so i had seen this one neat 52 min eva recap that was an absolutely *religious* experience(metaphorically, i aint actually religious) but yeah despite it being a recap with a guy speaking over it that was the moment i fell in love with the show and about a year later i just finished watching it and omg despite knowing what stuff was it had been a while since i d seen the recap so it didnt detract anything from the show at all, i absolutely adored it and actually loved the ending now. its a rather complicated show in the fact that not everything is straight forward and im guessing i got lucky but others only got to experience its beauty in rewatches after actually evading confusion, like everything builds together as you watch it and begin to piece things and see the beauty of it all
and yeah If you already know all this then my comment has been of no use but uhhh if you dont i hope i could help you find out for yourself as to why this is an absolute masterpiece(in my opinion) and is the closest piece of human art that covers the very fundamental part of what is a human and what being human means

The characters are all flawed and well written. It makes you feel terrible things but also gives a valuable lesson that it is ok to feel that way.

Bandages, escalating atmosphere, conflict with parents, an isolated world that is constantly in danger and forced to defend itself. The fact that Shinji had to get into the robot and fight, it seems that a person has to get up and, through force, fight his condition, his psychological injuries. I don’t want to dramatize too much, but the fact that when Shinji and the others entered the robots, they sank into some kind of liquid and started to fight, it was like a psychotherapy session, when a person plunges into his past memories and again faces danger.

This is such a perfect AMV. The anime selection, the scene selection, the beat, the editing. The ambience is just perfect, well for the first half at least. I keep coming back. It's mostly down to personal preference. Most older animes don't actually look that good to me, like some of the other 90's era mechas I just can't watch because of their art styles (macross seven, MS nadesico, infinite ryvius) although some of the works of art that came out of the 90's are beautiful with their bleaker tones, firmer outlines and shading it all looks alot more uniform and put together in my opinion. Modern anime seems to be alot more delicate and uses less defined features compared to the characters and settings of 90's anime. Over the years the market has changed and like all art things go in and out of fashion, styles change. It is without a doubt though the 90's was the beginning of the animated media technological breakthrough and some absolute gems were created in that time. If you like the evangelion art style I suggest you try some similar anime like outlaw star, Turn A gundam, The 08th MS team, Ninja Scroll, cowboy bebop, Ghost in the shell. They all have that 90's anime charm that we all love.

just finished this anime, it's so real yet surreal. The art is beyond its years just as the uniqueness and creativity is. Despite being a work of fiction, it was grand and made me realize some things. For whatever reason I tend to attract the people who do not mind talking about their problems despite me despising talking about my own. And I've always thought "Why are they so open with their problems? How can one "complain" so much? But this anime made me think "maybe me hiding my problems actually makes me the weaker one." And these people more than likely are seriously struggling."

And yes i am talking about all the depression and existential crisis it left me with, but they made me realise alot of things (and made me more dead inside). Eva will always be my favourite anime of all time.
