One prank I did in high school was playing the school bell on a vibraphone
That's a classic. We actually had a new bell sound so our school bell ended up in one of our songs because it was so annoying (it's also on my channel if you wanna hear it).
I found out the one of the iPhone message tones was a c on our glock so I would always mess with people in class
Our bell used to be an out of tune a flat. The director asked the principal to change it so now it's an in tune a and its super easy to mimic

This one time, I was at a drum practice, and we stop, because the battery tech hears something outside. He goes "Is that laughing or screaming?" And it's just outside the band room so I say "Just turn the met on full volume voice 4 and that should chase them away." Seriously, voice 4 is the spawn of Satan.

Ah yes, drummers/percussionists clowning... I recall being a 15-year-old full of angst and would intentionally play an entire concert piece on Marimba/xylo a half step sharp or flat. Band director could not figure out why it sounded so bad. I regret nothing.

After I figured out the thumb roll, I did it on everything, and I made some discoveries. If you do it on interior walls, some people think it's an earthquake. If you do it really slowly but with many bounces, on a concert bass drum, it sounds like impending doom. Essentially, it should be like bowing a string instrument, where you don't hear each hit, but you cause it to vibrate.
It's such a cool technique, it's annoying that I tend to have unusually dry hands. Need to have a moisture pad otherwise you're smearing saliva on instruments, lol. And you need to get the amount of moisture just right, too much and you get slips and an uneven sound. One of the things I wish I got better at.

Alright here's my best one EVER... Senior year of highschool and I'm the center snare at Brookwood High School. One game I'm tired of hearing the trumpets talking in front of me on our March down to the stadium and I realized the power I wielded as center.
I count off D&K (You may know it as funky drummer or something else) and played it out. I then immediately started it again. And again. And again. All the way to the stadium, the band thought it was funny the drum line was having a good time, it was great. Then we get to the stands, and for the first half, I would constantly signal to the drum majors that I wanted to play a cadence, and they would let me. I played D&K. Every. Time.
So after half time comes and the drum majors are at least minorly peeved off, but I'm not done. I have to get sneaky, so I start passing down the line what cadence we will play next, and when to start D&K in it, exactly the same troll as #29's takeout in the video. The BEST one was after literally begging the drum majors to let me play one more cadence, swearing on my life that it wouldn't be D&K, and they let me.
I counted off Ahh Brookwood, a carbon copy of Ahh CC which is a college somewhere I think, and if you're familiar with it it has a big buildup leading to one bar before the "drop" where everyone tells "ahhhhhhh brookwood, what!" It's literally the definition of hype, and the band and school love it.
So I have 300 people in the band hyped as hell for the drop with a breakdown with cymbals and headbanging and all around raucous behavior, when right after the call, it gets almost dead silent.
Except for one snare, starting D&K.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk, that was the best prank I ever pulled in drumline, have a nice day if you read this far.

I was the best at thumb rolling at my high school. I started thumb rolling everything. I found out you can make some really cool sounds by thumb rolling a concert bass drum really slowly. Now I can sometimes make people think there's a minor earthquake.

Duuuuuddddee I literally spent an entire summer learning Jig 2 on a makeshift quad setup made out of my trap set. Being a base in the marching band and having able to pick up the quads and be the only one who go ham on them during pep band even over my buddy who’s been our only quad guy all 4 years is pretty lit (technically the only song I know but still a crowd favorite woo!!)
UUGHHHH the voice metronome brings me so much pain. It reminds me of the beginning of the season in marching band. If we suck so bad even with the metronome, we get the voice and we all die inside. I did love Jig 2 Though!!

Pretty sure the hi-hat with a different pitch is just hitting it softer and with the tip of the stick, whereas the regular 8th notes sound like they're being hit with the shaft of the stick

Shouldn't that A in the first measure be a G?
There's also a D near the end of the Hedwig's Theme excerpt (4:20) that I'm 95% sure is supposed to be a D#. The difference is that the A is just a typo (he actually plays a G, since it's a C Major chord), but actually plays the D# misprint.

One thing I remember my high school drum line doing is that they would say "hold up, wait a minute, put a little bass in it" and play stuff. But they apparently didn't realize that it was borrowed from Family Force 5's "Love Doctor" so I guess it was one of those drum line traditions that got started some years ago and they just forgot where it came from.

I taught at a charter school last year (Mormon based charter school mind you), and one of my percussionists would hop on the kit at the beginning and end of EVERY class and play the hub intro. Literally every student in the class knew what he was playing and would laugh. I also had a student that would play Mo Bamba on his Bari Sax every morning, but of course I had to pretend I lived under a rock to avoid exposure. 🥴
