I mixed 5 fruits….bananas, strawberries, apples, pears, pineapple….. and did a fruit medley. I cut them in small squares, freeze dried them, then mixed them in a large bowl. Wow! Success plus. Delicious!
Peaches peaches peaches, peaches peaches peaches. Fread Meyer near me has 105 oz cans of sliced peaches. I slice them in half again then freeze dry them. Have to hide them when they are done, or they won't last to the end of the day.
There is an advantage to the 4 shelf model over the 5 shelf ... mainly head room above the tray. I have to worry about anything that expands and touches the shelf above ... especially if it's sticky. Combined with it is probably much easier to clean the 4 shelf model since you have more room to get your paper towel/sponge/brush into the tray area.
I've been taking the freeze dried blue berries and strawberries, melting white chocolate, and then cover the FD fruit with the white chocolate. The flavor and texture is a winner.
I use an apple slicer/corer from Amazon. It is a 16 slicer one that is red with a grey bottom. It saves so much time. I leave the peel on and I sprinkle cinnamon on mine.
@@ShellyRockiesG I have been worried about that and keep seeing new fires popping up. That’s so terrible and scary for everyone there 😣 hoping things will be ok 🙏
Hi...i just bought a freeze dryer andI live out in bristol bay so i rarely make it to coscos I tried canned peachs and manderine oranges and they turned out ok...your fruits look awesome...really like your vidios
Ripe pears are excellent in the fd. I have seen people use either a brand new, only for blueberries, metal bristle dog brush, preferably the self cleaning kind so easy to remove the berries. Or a retractable many needled meat tenderizer. It is really strange that south Alabama/ north Florida got way more snow than Alaska😂. The difference is that ours will be gone in a couple of days. Fd fruit teacher gift sounds awesome. Fd fruit is dangerous... I can easily eat a pound of fruit! Lol! I keep some jars of fruit for immediate use. 1 jar is always mixed fruit - the bits that don't fit in the single fruit jar, and my favorite jar is the mixed fruit one. Great fruit haul!
@@reneebeam426 I cannot believe the snow happening down there! I also have a friend in Connecticut and they were twice as cold as us yesterday 😬 weather is so weird this year. Great tip on the bristle brush for the berries 👍🏻
You are my freeze dry hero! I'm way too lazy to cut up blueberries and so I always do pre-frozen blueberries. After seeing you forge ahead, I'm going to try pears now. Great tips for all fruit lovers. You're the best!!!
@@matthewphillips3217 If they split open when you freeze them then there is no need to defrost them. Freeze dry them without defrosting it makes the cycle time shorter.
Love freeze dried blueberries!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun in Disney!! I loved our family trips to Disneyworld when the kids were young. Then they hit the teenage years and want to ditch the parents 😫
What is the mixture ratio (eg. how much water/how much lemon joice) that you used for the apples and pears? Is this to keep them from going brown? Thanks.
Love your videos! The brown colored pears are a favorite over the green. For pears I cut right down the center and use a melon baller to scoop out the seeds. Then straight to the food processor. I do the same for the apples 😊😊😊
Hello, on a different subject....Love the fruit, it's on my "to-do" list. I'm new to FD, I have been watching your channel for a long time now and finally received my HR FD. I've been experimenting (and cleaning the machine after "explosions" that happened in 2 out of my 6 runs that includes the bread run) Since you like Hi Chews so much, I thought you might want to try this and see what you think. I had never heard of Hi Chews but went and got some to try because of your videos. In one of your videos, some of the candies puffed out at the end but not the middle and it seemed to me that the white outer shell of the candy was keeping it from expanding so I wondered what would happen if I partially cut them. Since I'd had several "fails" so far, I only did a few to see what would happen. I used the PVC pipe cutter that I use on the Jolly Ranchers to snip the center of the candy about 1/2 way through, pre-warmed trays for 10 min then ran them at 150 degrees for 3 hours. They turned out really cool. I wish I knew how to upload a photo to show you... they are round (about 2 - 2.5" in diam), you can faintly see the color from the two ends on either side of the top since the candy expanded through the cut part, turning the candy so the ends were on top. You might want to try it, I'm going to do more that way and hope I get the same result. The bottom of the candy has a faint circle of color from the interior flavor, I think that they look neat. (not to mention that they are much bigger than the uncut ones I tried... I even tried cutting them in 1/3's first but that didn't do much, it seems like the trick is to break that white shell). Thank you for all your videos. They are very informative and enjoyable. I have learned a lot. I'm retired now and volunteer (and sub) at school and I'm hoping these candies will help motivate some positive behaviors in class, LOL.
Any time I've freeze dried fruit (strawberries, banana, pineapple, etc) they end up going soft after a day or so. I have packaged using mylar and/or mason jar with an OA and the fruits have been totally dry ( 48+ hrs). It's been recommended to use a dessicant. What are your thoughts? TIA
I do my apples and bananas, quite often, and I never soak them in any citrus whatsoever. I just immediately put the trays into the freezer. The freezing process keeps them from turning brown, and then, when I put them in to the freeze dryer, it keeps them frozen until it's time for the vacuum. So mine always come out absolutely white and no messing around with that lemon juice water.
@@jazziered142 I do like 3 cups Water and 3 tablespoons of vinegar and you can’t taste it on the fruit 🍎 yes I saw my friend buy those apples in a Costco video and had to try them and loved them!
Don’t be surprised or shocked if Disney refuses to let you bring the snacks into the park. They are real @#+=* in that aspect. They want you to buy their unhealthy food.
Guests are allowed to bring outside food and nonalcoholic beverages into the parks for self-consumption, provided they are not in glass containers, do not require heating, reheating, processing or refrigeration and do not have pungent odors. Inform a Security Cast Member of any food items when you enter the park.
I’m a teacher and I think it’s a wonderful idea. It’s a great healthy alternative when you want a crunchy snack.
