Ethel Kennedy's last child, Rory, made a lovely documentary about her mother several years ago that can be found on UA-cam. Although the documentary does show the painful losses that Mrs. Kennedy suffered, it really demonstrates much more about her resilience, grit and determination to give something back and to help people who are less fortunate than her.

She was a very strong woman who loved her husband and her children. She was strong in her faith and raised her 11 children in that manor. She was a fabulous mother and made their lives intertwined with their father's career. She was very creative and showed her children fun and creative things to do. That means that she had 11 children in 18 years. That is not beautiful or romantic at all. And there seems to be a lot of romanticised interpretations in the comments about the Kennedys.

Her parents, George and Ann Skakel had died in an air tragedy over Oklahoma in 1955. A few years later, in 1966, her brother, George Skakel, Jr., also died in a plane crash. I.. cant even grapple having so many of your family members die so tragically. There must be so much pain and trauma steeped in that family line for so many to have died from over doses as well. I dont believe in curses but... you have to wonder
@firstname_lastname so many died because they lived dangerously. Often alcohol or drugs were involved. Most of them were very impulsive people and didn't give others another thought. Horrible people.
When Bobby died her nuanced reaction was to throw her son RFKjr right out of the house. "Get out!" Why? I guess because he wasn't the one she wanted. No wonder he's so cold to women. But just think how that must have been for him. Suddenly, his father's been murdered. Suddenly his mother can't stand the sight of him. He moves in with the homosexual sidekick of his father's generation who had a crush on him. Weird but-- he's too young to be on his own. Very terrible start in life, let's face it. And she-- I'd say she's got a lot of shortcomings. Too much simplicity. I haven't read a biography of her, I haven't seen a film about her, but there just wasn't much parenting or making sure kids were safe among the Skakels, nor in that family, either. I bring this up on behalf of RFK jr only.
Ethel kicked RFK Jr. out of the house because, as she said, "I'm Ethel Kennedy." She did not need a reason other than that of all her kids, she disliked RFK, Jr., and David. Her mother, Mrs. Ann Skakel, was exactly the same way. When one of Mrs. Ann Skakel's son's behavior erred beyond what she was willing to tolerate, she simply shipped ALL of her sons off to boarding schools and camps. Eventually, she tired of her daughters as well, and one by one, married them off or shipped them off to Catholic boarding schools so she could socialize and travel without responsibility. For the most part, Ethel's kids were never around the Skakels because RFK would take the liberty of taking one of the Great Lakes Carbon Corporation airplanes without the Skakels' permission. He had no respect for the Skakels, and they, in turn, did not like the Kennedys.
@@travelseatsyellowlabThat's interesting. I have never heard this version before. Where did you learn about it. I would like to read the book if there is one.
@rhondabitler5474 there's a comprehensive biography of Mrs. Kennedy called "The Other Mrs. Kennedy," that lays everything out. Even in recent years, Mrs. Kennedy and Bobby have despised one another.
@rhondabitler5474 Collier and Horowitz wrote a book called "The Kennedys." Read the section called "The Lost Boys." Quite eye-opening. Ethel's oldest boys (Joe, Bobby Jr, and David) were a mess after the assassination, as was their cousin Chris Lawford.
It’s very odd how many people in and around this family died in plane crashes. To know one person who died in a plane crash is fairly rare I can think of 6 that died in this family in a plane crash including Ethel’s parents.
Now it's rare, it wasn't so rare back in the day. The FAA didn't just spring from Zeus's forehead the day that planes were invented. JFK Jr and Kathleen were killed due to severe recklessness, no other pilots would take off in those storms except JFK Jr and Kathleen's husband.
This is incorrect. Robert Kennedy didn't win the senate seat in 1968, he won that in 1964. His run for the presidency was in 1968. Two completely separate events.
Eleven children is a lot, but the woman was not up all night with babies, feeding and diapering and bathing one after the other, while cleaning/cooking/etc.
I have much respect for Ethel Kennedy and how much she has been through. Her unwaivering strenght and positive attitude. Blessings 🙏 to her and her family.
I think Bobby & Ethel truly loved each other . Were there flaws ? Absolutely ! Some due to certainly from all the tragedy and loss. With great wealth comes great responsibility and often a level of dysfunction.
There was a family that grew up down the road from my Nannie during her childhood. There were 19 children, three sets of actual twins and five sets of 'Irish' twins.
Grazie Ethel...hai dimostrato a noi tutte di essere la vera donna degli anni 2000 che ha saputo traghettare tutte le vere donne verso gli anni 3000.💐❤️
I feel bad for all Kennedy women, and associated women, however, they did have voices for all women when it was said and done. They had voices when even not speaking through alcoholism, suicide, and perseverance through the atrocities and degradation they endured. This would not work with today’s social media. Black Jack and Rose were a twisted and sick couple, there should be a 20/20 documentary on them.
She may be admirable for her devotion to her husband and family but when you are complicit in covering up murders and rape, that’s not an honorable or admirable trait to have. Anyway I don’t find the Kennedys as a great family. I consider them trash with loads of money. If it wasn’t for the money and intimidation, in other words a normal family, family protection services would have been called on them and many of them would be serving time or ex-cons. Sorry to be such a downer but they really are a horrible family with Joe sneaking in to his daughter’s room to have his way with the friends and purposely putting his oldest daughter in an institution because she might of had mental deficiencies and having her given a lobotomy that turned her into a vegetable for the rest of her life. And Rose was no better. She was a horrible mother, too. I am sorry but if I met a male Kennedy and he wanted to marry me I would run as fast as I could. I heard Caroline K. Schlossberg was just absolutely terrible to the Bessette family after the deaths.
Aske the people in Hyannis and Aspen what they think of Ethel and her brood. they have stiffed so many people... as for tragedy they brought most of them on themselves.....
@@myahollandia3552 Not her fault, but the Kennedy's showing up en mass to support young men who kill and r-p- as if they were not already known for their own lousy treatment of women is not a good look.
The plane crashes that took the lives of Ethel’s parents and brother weren’t a matter of booking ill-fated commercial flights. Her father bought a badly maintained airplane, used it for business, and it crashed. Her brother forced the pilot of a chartered plane to fly INSIDE a canyon, and it crashed. Her alcoholic brothers also were extremely careless with cars, guns, and knives.
I am about the same age as Ethal Kennedy. My most recent memory of her was when one of her children wanted to participate in some activity, but was not allowed by the person in charge because there was no more room for anyone else at the time. When this was reported to her, Ethel immediately confronted that person letting him know that her children were always entitled to special consideration because they were Kennedys, and should always be given first choice in the future!
I saw her once in the early seventies sitting on the lap of Andy Williams in the backseat of a convertible that was pulling out of her driveway at the Kennedy compound. A few other Kennedys were in the car. I think Patricia Lawford was in the backseat as well. I believe Ethel and Andy had a close friendship at the time.
She was, notably. Apparently after Bobby died so did she, to her children’s detriment. According to John Jr, he and Caroline were shielded from her and Bobby’s kids because she let them run rampant. There are stories for miles of how she’d run up bills all over town and not pay them with a “you should be glad the Kennedy’s come to you for service.” I don’t get why people martyr mean people, even if they are dead.
@@marijasovljanski this probably helps explain RFK, Jr. That and he supposedly took a lot of drugs when he was younger. But yeah, Bobby Kennedy’s kids were never shown any boundaries while they were growing up. Completely the opposite of Jack’s kids, who were raised right, thanks to Jackie. That’s why Caroline and John Jr. were so normal. Jackie has been quoted as saying “if you fail at parenting, then nothing you do, no matter what, will ever make up for it.” She was right. Too bad she couldn’t have raised Bobby’s kids as well.

She also recently lost her youngest and last surviving sibling, who was just 90.
So we're omitting the Kennedy's links to early organized crime and illegal alcohol transportation...got it, Carry on.
Hmmm
This is about Ethel.
Ethel had nothing to do with that. That was old Joe.
That was Joe Kennedy. Ethel had nothing to do with Joe Kennedy Sr.
Ethel Skakel. That's how the Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel who killed Martha was related to them.
Not sure but I think that Michael Skakel was the son of one Ethel Kennedy's brothers.
@@michaelverbakel7632 I think it just said he was Ethel's son.
@@michaelverbakel7632 Or then you can be right.
@@michaelverbakel7632he was, though he went around calling himself a Kennedy.
Ethel's late brother, Rushton Skakel, Sr., was the father of her nephew, Michael Skakel. That's the relation.
She skated at Lloyd Center in Portland with her Husband before they headed to California...and his Death. She was very small, petite ,constantly smiling.... Didn't fall , He held her up.
I.. cant even grapple having so many of your family members die so tragically. There must be so much pain and trauma steeped in that family line for so many to have died from over doses as well. I dont believe in curses but... you have to wonder
We must trust in God’s mercy. I pray for the Kennedy family, especially Robert, John, & their families.
They just suffered another tragedy with the death of Ethel's last surviving sibling.
🤣
@firstname_lastname so many died because they lived dangerously. Often alcohol or drugs were involved. Most of them were very impulsive people and didn't give others another thought. Horrible people.
Ethel is an unsung hero. Rarely mentioned but present to her causes.❤
Don't worry, God knows she's wonderful!
I find Ethel to be a better person than Rose Kennedy. Ethel deserves credit where due.
We shouldn’t idolize ppl or families. Ppl aren’t perfect.
I agree 💯 %.
Interesting and sad video at the same time
It’s very odd how many people in and around this family died in plane crashes. To know one person who died in a plane crash is fairly rare I can think of 6 that died in this family in a plane crash including Ethel’s parents.
It’s just statistics. They were wealthy so they flew way way more than the average person.
The Skakel family is notoriously reckless, and the plane crashes are just one of the kerfuffles they've been involved in.
Tragically, her final surviving sibling recently died at only 90.
This is incorrect. Robert Kennedy didn't win the senate seat in 1968, he won that in 1964. His run for the presidency was in 1968. Two completely separate events.
What a STRONG woman. Now, a woman gets wolf-whistled and has a nervous breakdown. Ethel was a hero!
So? Every woman now has to endure what she endured? She was indeed a strong woman but that doesnt make other women who go through less weaker.
Her faith is strong
Actually not. They only cared about not getting divorced - they cheated, lied, and stole. Even jackie lived with a married man.
She’s historical honestly we shall say thank you for spirit ♥️
Tragic end? Why is it always a tragedy at the end of a famous person's life?
0:08-0:14 "The Kennery family is one of the most powerful and prestigious (AND CORRUPT) dynasties in American History.
I would argue the Kennedy’s power and influence is largely past tense though.
Though they're not as prominent as before, they are still powerful and influential enough that their opinion is heard on a national level.
You forgot the loss of her brother in a plane crash in 1965 also. A year later his widow choked to death.
I had forgotten about that.
Good Lord!
Her last surviving sibling also died recently at only 90.
Eleven children. Crazy. That in itself deserves a medal. And then to have the children grow up in the drug era. Ruined so many lives.
Eleven children is a lot, but the woman was not up all night with babies, feeding and diapering and bathing one after the other, while cleaning/cooking/etc.
Bobby Jr never talks about her. I’m sure we don’t know the whole story
I always wondered what happened to her
Dear Ethel has not had it easy but in no way is she a lady to be pittied.shes strong and gracious and we Americans love her.❤
I have much respect for Ethel Kennedy and how much she has been through.
Adultery is not love.
@@marygersten862 I’m sure you’re a big hit at parties. I never mentioned “adultery”.
❤ poor lady😢
Praying that God Almighty guard, guide, promote n prosper all the Kennedys esp RFK Jr n loved ones. In Jesus's Name. Praying from Singapore
What and amazing Lady, her Legacy is unbeatable, her Journey was long and well lived giving her best to all ❤️🇺🇲💙⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🇺🇲
It was just ridiculous having all those kids.
She had 11 kids in order to outdo Rose. Per Ethel herself. It was a status thing. And with household staff and nannies ...
@@elizabethkettle2323 silly waste of time and resources
There was a family that grew up down the road from my Nannie during her childhood. There were 19 children, three sets of actual twins and five sets of 'Irish' twins.
Grazie Ethel...hai dimostrato a noi tutte di essere la vera donna degli anni 2000 che ha saputo traghettare tutte le vere donne verso gli anni 3000.💐❤️
So tragic living a lavish and idle lifestyle
Yes mme kennedy vous êtes forte ❤
Ethel was a very determined, strong and giving woman despite all the tragedies she faced in her life. I am a proud republican and saying this
I feel bad for all Kennedy women, and associated women, however, they did have voices for all women when it was said and done. They had voices when even not speaking through alcoholism, suicide, and perseverance through the atrocities and degradation they endured. This would not work with today’s social media. Black Jack and Rose were a twisted and sick couple, there should be a 20/20 documentary on them.
T heres a great Biography on her called The Other Mrs. Kennedy.
I can't believe this woman is still alive!
C L woo😊
She’s well into her 90’s. I saw a picture of her pretty recently, and she was this tiny, shrunken woman sitting in a lawn chair.
Even her youngest sibling recently beat Ethel to the grave, dying at only 90, compared to Ethel's 96.
Here today, October 2024, the Kennedy family has announced that Ethel Kennedy passed away at the age of 96. Rest in Peace.
Aske the people in Hyannis and Aspen what they think of Ethel and her brood. they have stiffed so many people... as for tragedy they brought most of them on themselves.....
Wasnt she an alcholic
Rip Ethel you are now with Bobby again!!❤❤
Het nephew killed his young teenage neighbor Martha Moxley for no reason
How is that her fault ??😊
@@myahollandia3552 Not her fault, but the Kennedy's showing up en mass to support young men who kill and r-p- as if they were not already known for their own lousy treatment of women is not a good look.
Ethel is NO hero.
She’s entitled
I saw her once in the early seventies sitting on the lap of Andy Williams in the backseat of a convertible that was pulling out of her driveway at the Kennedy compound. A few other Kennedys were in the car. I think Patricia Lawford was in the backseat as well. I believe Ethel and Andy had a close friendship at the time.
Wonderful Catholic woman who understands pain and sorrow just like Jesus did.
So she was beaten , and crucified.
What a ridiculous thing to say. She’s went through the same deaths and tragedy’s most of us have.

Robert Kennedy was full of life very impressed
Tragic?? Why??
Great and strong lady. Rest in peace
Ethel always seemed like a sad baby making machine.
Velika porodica I puno nesrece.
Really? You see no depth?
The only thing tragic about her is her terrible behaviour and poor parenting.
Nothing tragic about Ethel. She was happily married had many wonderful life. Lived her life in Mc clean, va. Robert was gunned down and she survived. Ethel was a suvivor.😢😢😢❤❤❤

Ethel is a devout Catholic, and, in those days, you just didn’t divorce.
There is no evidence of affairs with Robert. If you believe tabloid trash ok.
@lisasharf1442 Actually, the infidelity of the KENNEDY family was so bad that Ethel's mother grew disillusioned by the public Kennedy image and wanted Ethel to divorce Bobby if the Kennedys couldn't keep her in the lifestyle she was accustomed to growing up.

Bobby Kennedy had a nasty habit of getting into it with people. He should have NEVER gotten into it with Jimmy Hoffa. Maybe Marilyn Monroe could tell you how "wonderful" Bobby and JFK were...if she could.
After her son went over to support Donald “Chump”, I cant’ help but wonder if that was what contributed to her demise. I’m also surprised she didn’t leave her husband becaiuse of the Kennedy national pastime and I’m not taalking sailing or touch football. I’m, of course, talking about how Joe the fqther taught his sons well in the art of cheating on their wives. If the Kennedys were so gung-ho in regard to human rights then how come John wouldn’t allow Sammy Davis Jr. and his wife to attend the inaugural ball after Sammy campaigned so vigorously for him?! They talk about there being a “Kennedy Curse.”Gee, I wonder why the mentiong of one was done?!

William Smith's Auntie Ethel was my favorite Kennedy Aunt of his. She had a strong unbreakable faith and raised those kids all by herself herself all of her tribe of 11
kids. She was one tough lady amongst a lot of tough ladies in that family of strong Irish Colonial immigrants. What they have been thru as a family and endured their strength is beyond any family I have ever met in my life. I admire their bravery, their ability to get on with life and their dedication to their country and global human rights. I am so privileged to have been in their world for a while and met them and this endearing strong woman named Ethel.
