RIP Robbie Coltrane...the bits he plays in these are really funny
Aww RIP Robbie, the first time i saw you, loved u eversince xx
lashings of ginger beer! classics!
"Our bikes happen to be in first class order"
Priceless!
First watched it in 1988 on mtv on sunday nights , always a favorite. Jennifer gets more beautiful as she got older.
No
Had this on video. Bloody hilarious. All those empty gin bottles around the cottage. 😂
Why can't people just see the daft side of things these days...instead of banning everything.
My kids (all grown up now) still use some of these wonderful phrases. 'Never mind, we'll get another' , 'oh Timmy, you're so licky'. 'I' m so filthy rich, I don't 't have to' (say please) 😂😂
And our favourite..' why can't we do normal things, like Country Dancing...I'll pretend I didn't hear that '.
Whats been banned, you ninny? You can still make jokes
Who on earth lives like this in real life. A delightful fantasy.
I just heard the latest news about the five. Julian had to resign his position in the army due to his authoritarian leadership style, Dick was a successful food critic for a brief while, but found that it worsened his obesity. Anne is under suspicion of poisoning her domineering husband and George is serving a ten year prison sentence for trying to revive the British Union of Fascists.
What happened to Timmy ? the glue factory?
Is timmy as lickier than ever?
Timmy, unfortunately, died of a licking accident at the ripe old age of 28.
@@diedertspijkerboer blah blah blah mr knuckles
MTV showed some of these WAY back. Nice to see them again.
It's Mental Mickey from 'Only Fools and Horses'! Just found this show and loving it already! How good was British comedy in the the 80s!?
Yes and Dawn French went on to work with his dad in the Vicar of Dibley. .Nn nn. N n n yes
THANKS SO MUCH!!! It's great to see them so young and still full of so much talent:-) Love 'Bags of lettuce and lashings of ginger beer!'
Hagrid in drag 😆
OMFG I have been looking for this for years
Golliiwog!!!!
Thanks, Old Stick!!
Brilliant!!
Here for the nostalgia trip! Is that a very young Robbie Coltrane behind the counter?
Positively wizard! 😂 😂 😂 I'm 38 and from 🇮🇪 but I've read everything from famous five, secret seven, adventurous four, St Clair, malory towers, magic faraway tree, with Dame Spankalot, zall the original noddy books with the savage golliwogs... This is the perfect piss take of Enid Blyton... Who was fond of outdoor nude couples tennis to say the least...
from Ireland too except I'm 16! :) I loved these, such a good pisstake
@@sevenseasonsofbrown damn I feel old! 😂 39 in April. I actually think my sisters still have the uncensored/changed version of some of her books. I know that Aunt Fanny in FF is changed to Aunt Franny and I think Dame Spank-a-lot is changed from Magic Faraway Tree. There was so much controversy over her books. The FF always got it because they depicted Anne as always being 'a good little housewife' and the kids were often entitled, snobby little shits! Even Noddy got it. There used to be Golliwogs in the stories. They were always depicted as savages and thieves...Noddy wouldn't even slow down going through their forest... He put the foot down and drove through them! 😂 It was a different time though. You won't remember this but your grandparents will remember the Lyons Tea Minstrels. They were Lyons Tea mascots and would do these dances and songs in blackface... Sort of like Al Jolson. My sister had a golliwog soft toy and HB ice cream used to have a block of vanilla on a stick called Golli Bars. On the wrapper was a Golliwog.
I genuinely don't think there was a shred of malice or racist views intended but I mean they even changed Uncle Ben's to just Ben's!
If you enjoyed this there are two sequels, Five Go Mad on Mescaline and Five Go To Rehab which was only filmed a decade ago so they are all grown up.
@@mccarthy5825 agreed, they were so controversial! everything was so different back then, and I think you're right, there probably wasn't any malice intended! I love the comic strip, especially all the famous five ones. Five Go To Rehab was very good, gunny to see them all grown up! My favourite episode one of the whole show was 'Eddie Monsoon: A Life?' Ade was hilarious in it!
@@sevenseasonsofbrown fair play for having great taste in comedy! I love Young Ones. Other favourites are Only Fools and Horses, Blackadder(especially the fourth one) FR Ted, Black Books, Royle Family, Early Doors (basically royle fam in a pub), Spaced, Garth Marenghi, Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, Trailer Park Boys, Fawlty Towers, Hardy Bucks, Red Dwarf, anything Ricky Gervais does, especially Life's Too Short,( often overlooked)the Inbetweeners, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Its Always Sunny in Philidelphia, Archer, Rick and Morty, Futureama, season 2-9 of Simpsons, South Park, Community, Flight of the Conchords, Malcolm in the Middle, Peep Show...
I csnt get over how sanitised and anemic the 'comedy' is today. Its so shocking how comedy is getting censored and deleted. A slippery slope
@@mccarthy5825 thank you! the older comedies are the best! I've been watching Black Books since I was about seven, I even saw Dylan Moran live last month! All those other shows ive been watching for ages like Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, Spaced, Extras, Father Ted, The Young Ones, The Office (UK), the Mighty Boosh, The IT Crowd, and of course the few American ones like It's Always Sunny and South Park. :)
The middle classes biting the hand that feeds them, again. Still, this is brilliant
i've been looking as well since I saw it on telly in 82
Timmy has been poisoned,Never mind George we'll get another
Lashing of ginger beer 😅
This is the nearest thing to Enid Blyton's original. The latest BBC pile of dog waste is a disgrace!!!
It's not how I remember the books. Lol
absolutely brilliant, my ginger beer cup is over flowing! Take the piss...any time you like
Kool !
Strange that some comments are upholding this as an example of pre pc and wokeness comedy when it’s clearly taking the piss out of people who are against those things
yeah, good point. But their comedy was not woke. 'm sure they would take the piss out of wokeness.
Their brains have been addled by the far right. They're so enamoured with them they're ready to vote away their human rights.
“This man looks foreign - let’s call the police” great line. Nowadays you couldn’t make jokes like that anymore
You still can. it's a joke, Free speech is still in practice and so will remain.
I say this whenever I see foreigners come to my area... you can never be too careful
@Kurt Sõderberg nah, you'll get plod knocking on your door and requesting you attend a diversity awareness course at the local police station on a Sunday morning to avoid a charge
It’s an ironic parody of the Famous Five books, they really were as bad as that.
PC ness.
The pillorying of people back when this was made (in accordance with Enid Blyton’s attitudes) who are suspicious of immigrants - immigrants so hated by the Trump - who actually has married two immigrants and brought an additional two into the US - seemed comic before Trump and Brexit. So strange that what was once comic due to being so far-fetched is now the way two of the world’s dominant countries take as normal.
This is so much better than the awful woke nonsense of the 2023 version of the Famous Five...
So dumb it's painful...every one of these actors is 'woke', they're taking the pish out of the original white washed Blyton books where every baddy was a foreigner 🙄
So, back when this was made, it seemed comical that the Famous Five had a black man arrested (1:08-2:30) and carted off by the police for being black because it was too dreadful - except that in the era of Trump, this has been happening here in the USA. What seemed outrageous then is now happening regularly. However, if you grew up on Enid Blyton then you’ll know that this was emblematic of her attitudes.
Trump 2020!
Yes but this is Britain. Lol not the US
I figured he was from India,
The Vomit Strip. Incredibly unfunny
No one made you watch it.
@splinterbyrd
And of course "The Vomit Strip" is hilarity personified:) Why I'm positively chuckling!
You obviously have not read the books...It actually is just how they were....
