I've owned this bike since June 2016. I agree with everything you mentioned. I hate going to the gas station on this bike. I put the cap on top of the pump or on the ground, and then I have to press the handle VERY slowly and lightly so gas doesn't pour out at full speed and spray all over the place. It's super-annoying but thankfully the whole situation takes less than 5 minutes and I'm off for another 150-200 miles.

I also don't mind the lack of top-end power, but it could use more torque.
Agree with everything. Especially the gas cap. I’ve dropped it before because I have nowhere to put it so I just lay it on the seat and scratched it a bit. And filling up the gas tank is horrific, can’t fill it up all the way ever unless I put gas in my own jerry cans. Don’t mind the dash.
I have the 250 of these. Done 60000klm and never a problem. Getting a vfr800f soon but no way will I sell the 250. Way to much fun and on the mountain road near home I get so much enjoyment blowing the big bikes off
Didn't know that about checking clearances on the 300....that's quite nice to know! But yeah the engine on that bike is truly the deal-breaker. It really struggles on the highway. Bumping up the power closer to that 35hp mark would seriously complete this bike.
286cc - same as used in sh300 and pcx300 scooters. Honda are very handy at rationalizing their products. But it's also the engine in the new cb300r with about 31bhp so might be hope for the cbr300r if Honda still consider it for (minor) upgrade.
That's one interesting bike. Here in Brazil, there was the CBR 250 R. It's the first sport bike I rode, the seating position was spot on, handling was good, brakes were good, but that engine... Good thing I bought a Ninja 300 instead. I'd get SERIOUSLY bored (and, then, pissed off) with so little power. Excellent video, guys, as always!
Hi all, I am from India. We still get the 2011 CBR250R here😊 Ofcourse now it's sold as a 2018 model with new colors, sporty graphics and a full led headlight. I waited for so long for CBR300R (because it's more Fire Blade than VFR) but it never happened. One reason to be happy is that the 250 ABS cost only $3500 on road maybe because it's made here with some parts being imported.
this is actually my second bike and I could not agree more. The LIKES and Dislikes are exactly the same. I don't need some super overpowered bike but I do wish I had just a bit more hp and that DAMN gascap makes no sense to me. other than that just taking off the fairings is bite of a hassle but the overall performance of the bike is why I wont be "upgrading" anytime soon.
3:14 - My 2015 CB500F did that also. Was a major pain in the ass while filling up like, "WTF am I supposed to do with the gas cap while getting gas?" That was one of a few major gripes I had with that bike that I luckily don't have with my 2015 Ninja 650
Ari is right in that it’s a very underrated bike. It lacks power but everything else is great, and the Honda is far better than a few similar lower spec bikes out there for sure. Forgetting the KTM RC390 the CBR300R is the closest to a Moto3 bike for the road. Well that’s one way of looking at it right? Now that the CB300R is going to be available with this engine it’s time for Honda to make a CBR350RR twin and sell it here! Why let the R3 and Ninja 400 have all the fun?
Its style has already dated. HONDA should wake the fuck up and bring that gorgeous parallel twin CBR250RR (make it 300 for other markets) that they are only keeping for Indonesia Market.
Harkamal Singh they should really do that. The new 250rr looks so much better than what other bikes honda offers, and yet they just sell it in the indonesian market. They should really bring it across different markets and do what yamaha did with the R25 (250cc built for indonesian market also) and up the displacement to 300+. I'd sell my R3 in a heartbeat for that little honda!
bin bin yeah indonesia has this 250cc war-thing going on with the different manufacturers. The roster would be the Yamaha R25, Ninja250, Honda CBR250RR, & KTM Duke 250 as far as I know.
i ride the 150cc version from 2012 that looks like vfr, never change anything except tyre and brakepads.. it's so reliable and the only thing fails after 8 years is only the altenator and fork seals... those bike can handle a lot of abuse! i even crash at 80KM/h+ and i can still ride it back home without any major damage, just bent front license plate, broken left turn signal, and huge scratch on left fairing...
I have a 2016 GSX-S1000 and one just like this but solid red and black no stripes and I ride it more then the liter bike it’s fun cause you can max it out pretty easy and it has a nice soft ride around town! Gonna hit the highway I take the big boy that’s it’s yard!
I think that the reason behind honda’s (cbr 150r, 250r and 300r) poor performance is their stability of the engine as it very smooth as compared to other bikes in this cc range. For example we have cbr 250r and duke 250 in india and duke 250 vibrates a lot you can feel it on the handlebars and foot pegs as compared to cbr 250r So it depends on the consumer if they want performance or stability. Thats my opinion. What do you think @arihenning i love to hear from you.🙂
OMG EITHER YOU ACTUALLY HEARD ME OR IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE COINCIDENCE, but anyways thank you so much! I'm looking forward on buying either this one or the R3
You guys should do a honda cbr 125r ! I know its a small and slow bike but having one my self its a fun little bike ! Not to mention its the best starter bike for a teenager or someone who saves up on a summer job. They even work well as a track bike with many racing organizations runing a 125 class. The cbr 125r brings in new riders all the time and it would make a good video for new and upcoming riders.
I think instead of working too much on the super low cc bikes (Honda already has the 250rr from the Indonesian market ready as a template), they should focus hard on getting their 500cc lineup on a hardcore weightloss programme. Take the bikes to the gym, do some cardio and squats, make it actually worth putting a "light performance" engine in them. The CBR500R arguably looks better than most 650 and 600 bikes, and I am sure it would handle incredibly well and make use of that great 500cc twin with loads of torque, if it didn't weigh as much as a mountain. Come on Honda, step up your game, we know you can do it. It's so sad to see so much wasted potential in such a gorgeous bike. Would put the new Ninja400 and R3 to shame.
I just sold my S1000RR but I been waiting for these to bring the cbr250rr to the states. Looks, sound, size and track capable, what’s not to love? My first bike was a 15’ cb300f and I loved it just needed the refinement of the cbr250rr. Traded it for a fz1 and immediately tried to get it back. A zx7r,ninja 650 and bmw later I’m back for the small bikes. I’d rather have something light I can toss in the corners.
Dang youngins! There was a time when car gas caps were not tethered to the vehicle. Put the cap on top of the pump. Though I agree, its 2018 put a hinge on the darn thing.
hinges are annoying too, they get in the way of the nozzle.. often the angle you are pumping from isn't ideal... often because of some nimrod in a car that wont give you the space you need.. some nozzles are really clunky. put the cap on the rear seat. stupid tanks like this don't lend themselves to tank bags.. and the stupid seats don't lend them selves to hanging panniers.. so this is form follows function.. when the philospophy is like what BMW recently said " Nobody Needs a Motorcycle." actually, a LOT of us Do !
I have the 250r version. Love the bike AND it is not a perfect bike. Transmission will sometimes lose itself if I don’t downshift through every gear coming to a stop. I’ve learned how to undo the mess. Dodge Rider has enlightened me on cheap budget (price point) transmissions and the “work around”. Yep, the engine is not very powerful. This is a good thing for new riders and commuters. Who needs a lot of power sitting in stop and go traffic? Gas mileage is very good. I’ve never had less than 62 mpg on this bike. All highway gets into the 70’s with no effort. Top speed is 85 for me. which is more than adequate for my needs. If you need a lot of top speed and acceleration, this is not the best choice by any stretch. These bikes are a bargain on the used market because they are seen as “beginner “ bikes and not all that fast. I’d say if you’re a beginner or a commuter, put this one on your list. With regard to the unhinged fuel cap, I just put it on top of the gas pump. Not a big deal to me. And I’d rather it have a hinge. And yep, not 100% made in Japan. Made in Thailand. I do believe this has an effect on quality but I think it is still more reliable than a Harley.
i dont get why at this price people even consider these bikes...even if you are about to start riding you can get an mt07 for example with restrictor at 47hp and after you feel comfortable you remove it and you got a bigger bike...tons of bikes offer restrictors for the A2 lisence at 47hp(35kw)
This bike actually looked pretty, but right now it started to look a bit outdated compared to it's rival... For users in country with accessible highway it may be boring due to it's small power, but for country with no access to highway, which means have to go through crowded streets, this bike is pretty awesome for stop n go traffic, also it light weight mass will not wear the riders down so fast... I wonder why the latest CBR250RR currently only sell in Indonesia and Japan market... it's an awesome bike with a pretty powerful engine in the 250cc class to date.. great handling, light weight, and meanwhile, the mpg is the best among all 250cc motorcycle... even though the latest Ninja 250 had higher HP on paper, but in the real ride, that CBR's still got the best sensation when you open the throttle! it also had the 'meanest' look among all 250cc class..
I have CB300F and hate the gas spraying all over when filling up. Any tips? I have exhausted my imagination trying to minimize gas spraying onto the gas tank.
I buy several gallons of non ethanol fuel at a time to top off all my bikes when I come home. I almost rarely visit a gas station on the bikes, unless it's all day riding. I've probably been to a gas station on my Grom 2 or maybe 3 times, because I always leave home with a full tank. Filling up at home allows you to fill up without dealing with overspray you deal with at the pump, because gas cans aren't pressurized.
Any thoughts on the stock tyres? I found them to be super hard, they lasted well but I replaced them before I needed to (at 13,000 km) because I wanted softer rubber for the twisties. Pirelli Sport Demons work a treat, and I'm up to 17,000 km without this bike skipping a beat.
Ari, you say it needs more power which I agree on and so you suggested bumping up the engine displacement but I’m not sure if you are aware that they have already done this? In 2016 Honda released the CBR500R which is better than most in its class, the only bike I say that rivals it is the new Ninja 400! Please do a favourite/fail in the CBR500R!
Let's remember this is a city commuting bike. I guess that's why Honda focuses more on torque than top power. The torque is incredibly similar than R3's for one and that bike has around 12 more hp, not to mention everything in this bike is achieved lower in the tachometer. We're talking about 8500rpm for top power and 7000rpm for torque. Again, R3's torque is achieved at 9000rpm. This bike is just designed to better deal with Stops and Red lights efficiently more than achieving greater top speeds (not to mention it has a far better fuel economy, also classic in city commuting bikes).
Yeah the unhinged fuel cap I had on my "86 Honda CB450SC Nighthawk did get on my nerves every once in awhile lol... Edit: I've been watching this channel long enough so I quit being lazy and not just liked but subscribed.. 😉👍🏍
Petrol cap. I use an emergency plastic cap, much less fuss, and keep the proper one safe and only use it if I'm going to park the bike anywhere where it's v likely to be syphoned, which very rare.
A lot of dealerships will offer 2016 cbr500s for slightly more than 2018 cbr300s, you get a much better performing bike for your money, and the 500s have almost exactly the same styling.
Other complaint is the hideous exhaust. While still chunky, the other starter bikes from the big 4 have nicer looking exhausts but everything else is spot on. The thing I wish Honda would really do for these bikes is, more power. Everything else feels fantastic for its category but it is severely under powered even in the beginner bike tier. I'd love to see them bump it up closer to 400cc and tune it for a bit more power. Switching between my 600 and 300, and from my friend's impression as well ,we all agree the bike handles great, super light and flickable, comfortable ergonomics but can still carve canyons, brakes feel good, but no power. Going uphill on certain turns at GMR or Mulholland is painful
I owen one and love the bike, yes it's not a high speed bike but it's such a smooth ride, also I am looking for a lowering kit for mines, which do you recommend ?
I remember me having a Yamaha and my friend buying a Honda second hand. He bought the bike, got it inspected and the first ride we ever did started at a gas station. We get there, and he puts the key in the cap. Cap come off. We both look at each other strange and go "what the F?" Same exact reaction!
I agree Honda is too conservative with their low displacement engines. The CBR 250, 300, 500, GROM, are all beaten by other brands. Normally it doesn't matter that much, but when 5HP is a 20% difference and makes the difference if you can merge with traffic it's a concern. All you end up doing is having a "grass is greener" mentality and outgrow the bike too fast. My first motorcycle was a Ninja 500 and it had plenty of power, but wasn't hard to control at low RPM
I bought a new cbr250r in 2012 and then put 34,000 miles on it over the next 3 years. I think I spent as much on tires and chains as I did on gas. Unfortunately it was totaled while parked on the street
would you guys possibly concider to put metrics number on the screen in writhing when you list imperial number stats. love the channel keep up the good work
I have one myself. Same color too. He’s right on just about everything. My only beef with the bike is that it’s severely underpowered. I’m constantly shifting and need more power. One thing he didn’t mention is that they tend to develop a rather annoying engine rattle between 4 and 6 thousand revs. My mechanic told me it’s simply noise from the valves, but it’s definitely something else since I can clearly hear it through the my helmet and the wind noise. Nobody on the web seems to have an answer for its cause or solution, but about half of all CBR300R bloggers say the same thing about the engine rattle. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.
I thought it was just me. My bike was part of the crankshaft bearing recall, so I thought it might've been that. Nope, still had the marbles-in-a-can rattle around 5k. Now I have a Leo Vince LV-10 exhaust so I can't hear it anymore lol
Just took mine to the Harley shop in my hometown. They said the rattling sound is from the cam chain tensioner. They said it’s the nature of putting a load on a small engine. The cam chain tends to vibrate at higher rpms. Nothing to be concerned about unless you start hearing it at lower revs or at idle. Just gotta ignore it or buy a louder pipe he says. Hope that helps.
Many might be better off moving up to the Yamaha MT-07- less damages if it falls and more power at 75 mph. The Kawasaki Ninja 300 to 400 might be better for shorter and lighter riders, with 2 cylinders instead of 1 like this Honda CBR 300.
I’m thinking about getting into street bikes! I have only ridden a dirt bike a couple times so I am a very new rider. Would you recommend this bike for a starter bike? If not, what would you recommend??
It is a little over 30 hp. Mine has great brakes. Yes on the gas gap. I set mine on the top off the gas pump. It doe's have good power down low. Good review though. P.S. Honda rates it at 71 mpg.
Friday. R3 is great for about most things but if it's just for the track you want the RC390. They did make a review years ago comparing all these bikes.
Hoping that you'll discuss about what is the reason that's why the motorcycle engine loss it's engine power , & is there any possibility that the oil will also affect the performance?
You know a bike is good if one of the biggest issues is the freakin' GAS CAP
There’s tape there’s eBay for replacement parts
Yeah but honestly the bar in the gas tank bothers me more then the gas cap
I like how you included information on ease of self-maintenance! I think its a really important aspect for many riders, and not enough reviewers mention it. I hope in the future you can address this factor in more videos and writing.

Cbr250r was my first bike, so many memories
I agreed with the review especially about the machine performance, the community of rider knew it well. 👍
Haven't had a new Honda in a while, but still a huge fan
Love these fav n fail series... very informative in a bite size chunck
I like your favourites and fails series it’s very nice 👍
Keep going it ..
My 1986 V65 magna has a hinge gas cap, and gear selector LCD :)
Love the favorites and fails videos!
Looking for more in thr small sport bike catagory please!
The gas cap thing on my cb300f drives me crazy! Same for the nozzle obstacles! With such good mpg, I try to fill up from the can at home.
I love my cbr300r such a fantastic bike! Hahaha great review
I have a 2017 cbr 300r and am having a hard time to find plastics for the bike the original
3:14 - My 2015 CB500F did that also. Was a major pain in the ass while filling up like, "WTF am I supposed to do with the gas cap while getting gas?"
That was one of a few major gripes I had with that bike that I luckily don't have with my 2015 Ninja 650
Honda has been doing that for a long time. My VFR500 also has the gas cap that comes off when you unlock it. Total pain
you can keep it on the seat
Agree that the dash is so dated. BTW I love your videos, especially the ones where you and Zack ride together. Keep up the good work 👌👌👌👌
These videos are awesome keep them coming.
I love my CBR300R, first bike. Definitely agree with the points on the petrol cap though, and the dash could have a bit more.
Harkamal Singh truth! im from indonesia btw, and 250rr is a beast, its also has 3 riding mode, which is awesome for small cc bike
Is that bike exclusive for Indonesia only? Lol i didn't know bout that. I'm from Indonesia and it is a great looking bike for sure
bin bin yeah indonesia has this 250cc war-thing going on with the different manufacturers. The roster would be the Yamaha R25, Ninja250, Honda CBR250RR, & KTM Duke 250 as far as I know.
Shit they need to make the original 250rr with the inline 4. That thing sounded like an f1 car
i ride the 150cc version from 2012 that looks like vfr, never change anything except tyre and brakepads.. it's so reliable and the only thing fails after 8 years is only the altenator and fork seals... those bike can handle a lot of abuse! i even crash at 80KM/h+ and i can still ride it back home without any major damage, just bent front license plate, broken left turn signal, and huge scratch on left fairing...
For example we have cbr 250r and duke 250 in india and duke 250 vibrates a lot you can feel it on the handlebars and foot pegs as compared to cbr 250r
So it depends on the consumer if they want performance or stability.
3:20 when your about to curse and you remember your mom is standing right next to you
Ooooo a valve clearance check video for this bike would be great 😄. I have a 2016 cb300f soooooo it’ll make my life a tad easier
This bike is beautyful and looks so diferent from her smaller syster! (CBR250R)
I wish honda could bring us this kind of bikes yo Chile
I just sold my S1000RR but I been waiting for these to bring the cbr250rr to the states. Looks, sound, size and track capable, what’s not to love? My first bike was a 15’ cb300f and I loved it just needed the refinement of the cbr250rr. Traded it for a fz1 and immediately tried to get it back. A zx7r,ninja 650 and bmw later I’m back for the small bikes. I’d rather have something light I can toss in the corners.
"There's a simple soultion, and it's called a henge!"
-Ari Henning
Love this series, good work, Mr. Ari ! I need one of these midget bikes before I call it quits on the 2 wheeled show.
The dash looks much like the dash on my 2005 Fireblade.. Feeling the age ;)
you should get a million subs with that kind of content keep it up
You guys should just go and review the CBR250RR
It performs a lot better and looks a lot better too
Not available in America, unless you are talking about the old Inline 4 Cbr250rr
Raihan Azmi sadly it hasn't reach the western market yet only certain asia countries.
This is the only review I could find
Just saw an old video of you riding through the Alps and WOW you hair was out of control, LOL. Just added that ride to my bucket list.
This will probably never be seen but one of my issues with mine was the gas tank cap, Fell off my bike and bent my key, left me stranded lol.
Waiting for Favorites & Fails of BMW G310R & 310GS..😊
i dont get why at this price people even consider these bikes...even if you are about to start riding you can get an mt07 for example with restrictor at 47hp and after you feel comfortable you remove it and you got a bigger bike...tons of bikes offer restrictors for the A2 lisence at 47hp(35kw)
Dark Legend not in india.there in no A2 licence and no Mt 07 from Yamaha.so have to stick with that small cc motorcycle.🙂
@@darklegend4354 Not in America we don't. Nowhere in North America is there something like that, US, Canada, nor Mexico.
@@darklegend4354 Too expensive. Insurance on one of these vs a larger displacement FZ07 is night and day.
I have one. I like 300r so much!
I wonder why the latest CBR250RR currently only sell in Indonesia and Japan market... it's an awesome bike with a pretty powerful engine in the 250cc class to date.. great handling, light weight, and meanwhile, the mpg is the best among all 250cc motorcycle... even though the latest Ninja 250 had higher HP on paper, but in the real ride, that CBR's still got the best sensation when you open the throttle! it also had the 'meanest' look among all 250cc class..
would have to agree with the fails listened Ari, i owned the 2016 CBR300R and doesnt look like much has changed in 2 years
As always, good video! Have nothing to say about the new Mt 07 2018?
I have CB300F and hate the gas spraying all over when filling up. Any tips? I have exhausted my imagination trying to minimize gas spraying onto the gas tank.
I buy several gallons of non ethanol fuel at a time to top off all my bikes when I come home. I almost rarely visit a gas station on the bikes, unless it's all day riding. I've probably been to a gas station on my Grom 2 or maybe 3 times, because I always leave home with a full tank. Filling up at home allows you to fill up without dealing with overspray you deal with at the pump, because gas cans aren't pressurized.
My first bike and still have it today
My gas cap goes on my triple tree. EBR was nice enough to make it a sort of shelf as I fill up
Really loves your videos ! Do one for the ninja 300 plz !
Got the 2014 cbr 125 with 30k miles, no problems!
How can you see the '' hideous exhaust'' when riding ? If you are looking at it, you might want to look what's in front of you.
I owen one and love the bike, yes it's not a high speed bike but it's such a smooth ride, also I am looking for a lowering kit for mines, which do you recommend ?
Cool. Thanks for the info. Good for a first bike?
I have the naked version. but the Ari approves although it would be so awesome as a 350cc single or twin.
I remember me having a Yamaha and my friend buying a Honda second hand. He bought the bike, got it inspected and the first ride we ever did started at a gas station. We get there, and he puts the key in the cap. Cap come off. We both look at each other strange and go "what the F?" Same exact reaction!
One off my favorate honda cbr 300R
Please, oh please, do one for the R3. I'm super curious about having one as a track bike.
Friday. R3 is great for about most things but if it's just for the track you want the RC390. They did make a review years ago comparing all these bikes.
Hoping that you'll discuss about what is the reason that's why the motorcycle engine loss it's engine power , & is there any possibility that the oil will also affect the performance?
