Can we get a dedicated video on that PRS you use? I keep coming back to this video just so I can skip through and see the guitar.
Can you put one type of amplifier and several effects at the same time?
That song you played at the beginning was epic... Considering the small size of the amp. Wow.
I was having the chick at Guitar Center show me amps. She was adamant that this one was epic.
Great review and video, man.
I started with a KUSTOM 8" from back in 1996. Greaaat sound, now----and effects built in?!
Crazy.
Man my Dad never needed convincing of anything guitar related, he and my Mom were the ones telling me to turn it UP and annoy the neighbors, or encouraging me to try out all the cool guitars at a Guitar Center.
Rad parents!
great parents !
Parenting done Rock!
Best parents ever ¡¡¡
That'll be me when my kids are (inevitably) learning guitar!
That amp is awesome, it seems that changing the preset also changes the guitar he's holding too, wow technology has come a long way
underrated comment
Why do people keep calling this a “beginner amp”? This thing is good for all levels of players.
I think it was probably designed to be a beginner amp. But it's really freaking good for one
Because most amps are good for practice and just rocking out some notes maybe the call it that because it's easier to control then some amps
because it's small and cheap
@@nathan.w05 it still is good though
Should I get the Mustang 25LT or the Champion 40?
I'm a 42-year-old hobby player, not a pro. I find this amp to be perfect for me and what I need. Extremely versatile and user friendly without having to invest in a bunch of different pedals.
Alright. I’m sold. Back when I started playing in the late 80s, a Crate 15w was the best a beginner could hope for. This little guy is nuts!
I used to love those old Crates
@@mike5177 I think I went through three of ‘em.
@@chairmankaga101 I had a small combo and a half stack. Got some killer crunch through those.
Don't forget Gorilla Amps.
I'm still using my 15w Crate practice amp lol
The Mustangs were always excellent at the clean Fender simulations, but this Modern Metal preset instantly sealed the deal for me. Mind-blowing.
Especially if we consider how crappy the rock/metal tones were on the original Mustangs.
My mustang v2 is really finicky when it comes to Guitars/pickups the Tele/Strat sound the best. The amp lacks the high end imo. Still got a few presets I love though.
@@fromthesilence9583 Change the speaker
To be honest, if I would start now I would be all over it, but I already have an old Mustang, might as well just buy a dedicated metal amp to close the gap that my mustang leaves.
Make your own pre-set Colin. You can call it "All the Gain!! =)
So much win
Anderonn don’t forget. NO MIDS
@@camdero3294 MORE GAIN! *MEHTAL ZOAN!*
Colin thanks! BTW call yours “Gain City” 🤠🎼
Considering getting a Mustang for practice. Gotta say, I enjoyed your review more than any of the others I've seen so far. You clearly have a passion for music, and you let the product shine by playing recognizable chord progressions and riffs.
Don't know when it became a thing for reviewers to show off how many notes they know how to play, but thank you for not falling into that trap. It was refreshing to see a demo where I could hear how the amp sounds when someone plays music through it instead of the 15 minutes of mindless noodling a lot of 'reviews' seem to showcase.
Keep up the great work!
I am a middle aged beginner and this is the most informative review of this amp. I am looking to buy one and I appreciate the video. I want a modelling amp so I can work out what sounds bands make before I blow a small fortune on a high end amp and boxes.
Bought this amp and am impressed! Great tones for the price.
I just started playing guitar and I'm addicted. I also love this tune 8:59
An excellent presentation for the Fender LT25. Your delivery style kept me interested throughout & has inspired me to get one. Thanks for a really entertaining presentation.
I love this amp. Didn't know about the hidden sound so im definitely gonna play with those
Bought one of these today to go with my first electric. I prob shouldnt have waited until my late 30's to start, but I find collecting and playing all kinds of musical instruments therapeutic whether I'm good at it or not. I'll find a way to get sounds I like from anything, and this amp should help me have some fun so it's a win
Lol, you're describing me. I'm in my late 30's (barely) and just bought my first setup. Got a Squire FMT HSS in Black Burst along with this Fender amp. Looks like we both got a solid first setup!
Got this as an early Christmas gift to replace my old and crappy Silvertone smart 3s. I had no idea that this amp had all of these features. Sounds a lot better than my old Silvertone
Colin I love all your videos man. Forreal, even if it's not something I had an interest in, seeing you do a video on a topic or new gear or hell even explaining all the science behind tone, I'm always down to watch. Never stop man!
To be fair this looks like a genuinely awesome beginner amp!
Colin your review was nice and detailed and it was nice to see the Harley Benton SC 1000 make an appearance (Love that guitar, getting one for my son for his birthday very soon!)
The array of sounds you can get from this amp is awesome. I thought it put the amp in the same category as the Boss Katana Air or a Vox Adio Air GT, except it's much cheaper!
Always love hearing your detailed knowledge of equipment come to the fore. Great video! Thanks!
I’m a seasoned semi-pro, but I just bought one of these simply because I find my ever-reliable Marshall JCM800 4212 combo and all my stage gear (including two pedal boards)a load to lug around (I am over 60). My even older Fender Harvard practice amp died so I thought I’d get a modern practice amp with onboard effects, which have advanced in leaps and bounds in the last twenty years, from tinny trash boxes to pretty good imitations of valve (tube) amps. I’m not disappointed. It sounds great with my Fender Strat, my Gibson Les Paul Studio, my Yamaha Pacifica and my Ovation Celebrity Elite. Haven’t tried it with my Telecaster yet, but I’m sure it will shine.
I’m a beginner and have absolutely no idea how to use this thing BUT I’m glad I bought it and it’ll sustain me through multiple phases as I learn !!
Colin, your Strat is AMAZING! That being said. There are some clubs in our country has digital modelling amps like these (though not exactly this unit) provided for the gigging band to use. If this is in the club, I would not hesitate using it. The clean sounds alone is already good. Thank you for introducing me to this amp!
That’s the mighty Player Series, best option for the price range among any existing guitar brands.
The 70s british amp modeler mentioned around 5:17 is my favorite modulated amp on the Lt25. Sounds so rich and complete but can also be quite dirty with some gain. Mixed with effects for my Boss od20 dist modeler. It's awesome
I really love this video! The video format and descriptions are clear, and you spend like the right amount of time on each preset. Thanks for putting this out there :)
Wow I love that you played Ram Ranch as that first song
Certainly sounds like it
I have his big brother the LT50 and yet I also have MXR effects pedals! This amp is intended for a wide audience
Colin I really appreciate you, I was just talking about this subject. This video and all of your videos come in handy.
Just picked one up yesterday along with a Fender Player Series Strat with the humbucker. Last time I really played was freshman year of high school and I’m 26 now. So stoked to start again.
I have one! It's a great little amp. More than loud enough for the living room and easy to take to a friend's place for some couch jams. I found your review accurate to my experiences with it. This amp does its job!
Nice bro! I've been playing and giging for over 40 yrs. now... I've also gone through sooo many amps! Seems like every couple years I would sell my rig and start over... Now that I'm almost 50 my days of playing out are over, Had tons of fun over the years but I just can't live that up all night life style I used to live, So now I just jam with my old friends and run and build my own guitars and that little amp is perfect for my needs! She sounds great! Thanks for the review bro, Just the amp I'm looking for to put in the shop! Awesome. Mike (Ipswich River Guitars).
Thank you for this video brother! Been struggling to find a detailed video on utilizing the preset variations, keep rocking brother!!
My first amp was a donner amp that runs on battery and can fit in my coat pocket. Got it in a kit for a great deal. This'll be my upgrade lmao. It's absurd how big of an upgrade this will be
Sounds pretty cool to me. I think amps like this are great for beginners. They are exposed to a bunch of different guitar effects and tones. They can get an idea of what they like and the sound they are going for before committing to more expensive gear. If I had something like that starting out I would’ve been thrilled. Just for that VH tone itself. Is it perfect? No. But to just plug in and hear that tone would’ve been rad.
Looks like a fine little practice/experimental combo!
Awesome stuff, Colin. I've got a Blackstar ID:15 TVP, which is also a great alternative. You've got all kinds of Reverb (Room/Hall/Spring/Plate), all kinds of Delay (Linear/Analogue/Tape/Multi) and lastly also all kinds of Modulation (Phaser/Flanger/Chorus/Tremolo). On top of that you can even set the amp to emulate all kinds of different tubes - EL84, 6V6, EL34, KT66, 6L6 and KT88. And then various channels like Clean Warm, Clean Bright, Crunch, Super Crunch, Overdrive 1 and Overdrive 2. And the price ain't bad. I put my Les Paul Tribute, SG Standard or PRS SE Custom through the Blackstar and everythings all good at home. But now you've convinced me to look into the Fender. Rock on, brother.
I have a Fender 212 R, so this wasn't too surprising! Nice playing!! Whoa...you only started playing ten years ago, ok I'm thoroughly depressed about my own playing!! lol
Just picked this up from Detroit Guitars. Wow!!! Light years ahead of Fenders older 10 watt practice amp, with its dial in cab effects. For 150$ I swear the LT25 could give an Axe effects a run for its money. Is it the same? No. But for sitting at the end of your bed and jamming, this thing is phenomenal! And I use the word sparingly. I'm gonna put an SM 159 in front of it and make some noise, just to show people what can be done with a little money, some inspiration, and an incredibly equipped practice amp. This thing is a lot of fun!!!
15? I'm in my 30's and just got one of these as my first amp, picked up my first guitar too. I don't plan on playing in gigs or anything, just wanted a smallish, inexpensive amp that's easy to use and versatile, and this one fits the bill perfectly.
You do a great job on these vid's. Enjoyable and informative. And you know that some of us need to know if it can do HEAVY. Good playing from you also. Rock on!
Really well done demo of all the features of this amp. I have several amps and this one has all you can ask for in price, size, features and sound for a great practice at home or a small venue. Thanks for your video, I obviously liked and subscribed.
Thanks Colin. I have the LT50 and it is great for open mic nights at small venues. It has a tuner built-in that is easy to use, and I can get a decent Big Muff into clean Plexi tone.
1:20 this riff reminds me of Mega Man 2.
As a practice amp/first amp this is pretty nice.
When upgrading this may even be a keeper.
Loved this video! I’ve been looking for a small, lightweight practice amp to carry around now that my back makes dragging even my Katana 100 around a daunting task. The interface and your very clear explanation of how it works (including the secret presets) makes this look like the one for me. Thanks!
They've digitized other great amps in there. Ideal for studio use.
I had a dead Crate GX80 with a Celestion G12k
12" speaker in it. Unhook the 8" Fender and ran direct to the G12k cab. Set up on SuperClean thru a Behringer V-Tone Acoustic ADI21 DI pedal.
Oh, what a perfect setup for all of my Studio needs. 25 watts is plenty with this set up. Add pedals as needed. I play my Yamaha FSTA acoustisonic thru this and feed back hasn't been a problem yet.
Thanks for a great review. Because of your review way back when.... I purchased this and I'm not disappointed. The preset mystery was the bonus that sold me. And the SuperClean has NO 60cycle hum.
Best video I've seen featuring this little gem of an amp. Thanks.
9 months ago, one of your videos persuaded me to buy a Glarry telecaster. That $60 used but well set up guitar has served me well.
Now I think your common sense video has persuaded me to look into buying this Fender amp.
Thanks.
Done.
Sunday, I purchased a Fender Mustang LT 25 for 75 dollars. Normally $165.
Craigslist seller, the amp was 2 months old. The seller liked it so much he was trading up to its big brother, the LT 50.
It's a great fun amp with great sound. 30 on board modeled amps with 70 more to choose.
Thanks for your review, Colin.
I've been a proud owner of this amp for 6 months and I can say this thing is worth at least 5 times the price tag. I can't fathom how good it is and I'm hoplessy in love with the Van Halen preset.
We also tried to make a preset with a friend of mine for his eight strings battle axe in order to get a very metalcore djenty sound and it sounds amazing even with my active EMGs 6 string
Use app in pc or ipad?
@@Twylightt It doesn't have a real app, just a software where you can download, set and modify the presets. You do everything from the amp itself
@@Twylighttuse the fender tone app on pc
I know this is an older video, but thanks for the walk through. I just bought my first guitar in 15 years and got one of these minty clean from a high school kid for 100 bucks. 250 Ibanez+this amp for 100 is a hell of a setup for 350! I love where equipment is going nowadays. I spent more than that on my 2nd guitar in 2003
Recording with this. It rules! I never use the built in presets or effects for recording, but they're fun as hell to play with!
Colin, you’re getting some decent sounds out of that little box... but just noticed your playing has improved fuck loads recently. Really tight right hand rhythm muting
i love the name "Myth Drive" for the Klon
It is a Overdrive, and Contours are Mythical creatures
My first amp was a Roland CUBE 30. I took that to my highschool guitar classes. Then, for home use I got a second hand Peavey Vypyr. Big mistake lol. Then I gave that to my brother and got an Orange Crush 20. Even though I have a "real" Orange Amp now, the OR15H, I still use it for live settings, and as a second amp via an ABY box when I'm jamming out to Sleep at home. It still sounds killer!
what was better the roland cube or orange
You're the best musical equipment reviewer I've seen. Thank you.
Bought this amp two years ago for my son and myself when ww both picked up the guitar. In the past two years my GAS was in beast mode and I bought a bucket load of amps & cabs thinking I wanted somerhing “better”. Long story short: I played the fender tonight for the first time in a while and it sounds just as good as my Engl Rock Master, Marshall DSL5CR, Laney Supertop, Spark 40. I don’t gig, just a bedroom/home player, so take it with a grain of salt lol
Sounds very good, but for the money, and the tone all together, the regular Katana still rules in many aspects. That fender did have some nice tones , like the ZZ preset. But still, I’m
Katana all the way.
Yeah, got to second this. The Katana amps are great sounding amps. The head trough a Marshall 4x12 will shake the house. ;)
I mean, the Katana isn't really a "beginner" model per-say, sure, it's the lower end range of the Boss Amps, but Boss isn't building it's amps to the beginner, sure they can be used in that format, but with all the effects modelling and the parameters available it can get overwhelming for a beginner, and there is the whole "It goes to stage volume" thing that most beginner amps won't have XD
Thanks you CSG! What an intro... and that V! 4:14 no force in the universe would have convinced my dad to buy an amp for this guy. However, he put up with all my playing when I paid for my own gear. I'm guessing he would rather hear the chaos from my room and know where I was than out somewhere getting into some nasty shenanigans lol - cheers!
Hey Colin. Loved the video on the LT25. Thanks for putting it out there.
I’ve been playing drums since the late sixties and in the last few years I’ve been plunking away at bass guitar and acoustic guitar. I’m about to buy my first electric guitar and I am definitely going to pick up an LT25.
Anyway, I digress! I noticed the device on your right arm and wondered what it is. The blinking light seemed to be in sync with the tempo when you were playing, so I thought maybe it could be a metronome.
Steve from Charlottesville, Virginia.
It’s a Metronome by Soundbrenner. I have that same thing.
I had a fender mustang 3 for a learner amp...eventually it just didnt have the X factor ...so I sold it and bought a jcm800 studio and blackstar 112 cab. And 8 carefully selected pedals....sounds killer.
Fender modeling amps (like the lt25 and and mustang gt40 (the one that i have)) are legit the biggest bang for your buck amps out there. And it's not too hard to find them for under $250USD (not including shipping) on places like Reverb. It's basically a Swiss Army Knife of amps.
Id argue that Boss' Katana are a better line up and have better sounds.
LT25 is only $150USD
@@truedarklander But Katana cannot do Fender tones.
@@Andrey.Balandin it can-with plugins
Great playing 🙌
Glad I watched this as I’ve just bought one and thinking - it’s pretty dark on the distorted sounds and your comments explain it.
I think the key is balancing the bass control, gain and volume to try and tame that bass. We’ll see as I play it more 😬
Thanks!
IDK what I like more...the amp, the riffs, or the accent. lol I've always wished I had that accent.
Like you said, already have the big set up, so this is a killer little amp, sounds great.. Great review.. Well done, tks from eastern Canada 😎🇨🇦🎶
“Imagine your 15”
Me: *literally 14 turning 15*
i turn 15 in a month and 9 days
Happy belated 15th bday man
Makes me think I may have made the wrong choice when I purchased my first amp, a Katana 100 MKII 2X12. It was (comparatively) expensive, large, heavy, but most of all, the learning curve for somebody born before the advent of the internet is a bit steep. Just installing the software and getting my computer to communicate with the amp was a challenge. I've had it for a few months now and still have only scratched the surface of what it can do. I'm not dissing it at all, but for me it may not have been the wisest option. I'm seriously considering selling it and getting something like the LT25.
If you do sell it, get the Mustang LT50 or better. They are like this, but can be louder and have EVEN MORE features.
I have it for almost a year now. I still don't get why the hell the "hidden" presets are actually hidden. If you want to use only the amp and not connect it to a PC via USB, you need to use the "Replace" function. If you decide to use the Fender software for this (and other Mustang amps), you can play a lot with presets.
Cool tip: works on Linux (at least on Ubuntu-based distros) out of the box. You connect it to your computer (it also needs to be turned on of course :D) and select it as input (for example in Audacity). Then enjoy recording and mixing!
Cool , thanks man i have only Linux
I still got my Fender Mustang 2 v.2, most if not all stores where im shopping at don't even stock that amp anymore.
I got alot of amps but one of my favourite practice amps i own thats cheap is the Roland micro cube since it has one of the best classic rock tones i have ever heard on a cheap amp.
I have a micro and I’m think of getting a mustang. Do you think is worth it?
@@jorgeguitar2540 If you're serious about playing guitar I would personally go with a boss katana since its way better than the mustang, but it might cost just a bit more.
It actually tells you what setting mimics which amp or pedal in the user manual
The demo sounded like ram ranch
yeah, i can hear it
Ahaha aye
This has been the best demo of the Fender amp on YT. Well down!!
Dues vult
I have used and tried lots of Fender Mustang series modeling amplifiers and their Fender Supersonic preset was always very good. Quite similar to the "Lead" amp model of Boss Katana amplifiers.
i have the LT50.. same amp just bigger.. while the dial controls are not bad it's WAY better when you DO plug it into the computer to manipulate the sounds
Can you plug into ipad?
I Had a fender mustang v2 and it was awesome, can't wait to get this tomorrow, and I'm not a beginner, I just don't have all the money in the world so this stuff works for me,, Iike to jam with headphones after a bong haha
I love taking my guitar and amp to the office between meetings and appointments
Lmao
This is an awesome amp with a lot of possibilities and will save my tubes on the big boy!
My friend has one of these and now I'm intrigued since I only play at home. And as always, Colin, I totally enjoy your videos. Brilliant!
What's the flashing cross on your right arm?
It’s a metronome called the Soundbrenner Pulse.
I have a v1 Mustang III, and your modulation segment reminded me of how much I liked the vintage tremolo effect- it was probably my favorite effect on the amp! (along with the idiot proof 1 knob simple compressor, lol)
I've always been a fan of the Bassman model, and used it almost exclusively. This model will give you everything from a nice clean to a bluesy crunch to a full on rock overdrive. Just from tweaking the amp controls.
I think this would be a cool amp for my 15 year old. I got him an Ibanez box set last year that came with a tiny amp. This will be good for him to practice with.
daaamn bro, technology is getting crazy
Great review keep up the good work! Some of the tones sound amazing. I’m looking for a second smaller practice amp with some good cleans, bluesy tones & nice high gain & stumbled on this after purposely avoiding modeling amps. My main amp is a Blackstar HT-5R combo which is pretty solid. All the Katana lovers out there I think reviews on the tube have sounded good for katana but I haven’t been impressed when trying it in person. Not sure if something like this fender would be good or more along the lines of an orange micro terror with 1x8 cab or a Blackstar ID core series. Thoughts from the gallery? Other options? I feel like there are so many choices but like most get bored easily.
7:00 Did you use the regular "thrash overkill" preset for this tone? It sounds spot on
Colin! Great video! Is your "Vee" wired vintage?? (Cap wired to the volume and NOT back to the tone) It's got a sweet "growl" to it!!
Just finished installing a speaker out jack end plugged in a 2 x 12 sealed cab. Just made it all the more useful.
Sounds full
Now have removed electronics and made into an LT25 head.
I have this amp and it's perfect for someone not interested in playing for a big crowd or just for themselves. You don't need a 100 to 200 amp to play a gig if they have a PA system. Hell, a friend of mine belongs to a band and needed to borrow a small Peavey amp I had and invited me and my wife to see them perform at a bar and he sounded great! Of course , we were smashed while watching.
Would certainly have been leaps and bounds ahead of the shitey used Kustom 20W... thing I had when I started. Nice to see they managed to combine a decent level of control with a straightforward interface.
When they sent it over I fully prepared to be frustrated by the control aspect (like almost every other product of this type) and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised with how easy and intuitive it was.
It's almost mathematical: able to find sound + fewest button presses = more fun.
This amplifier gets that. So many others don't.
I know that this is an "older" video, but I've had one of these for a while... Did anyone notice a change in audio quality with a more recent firmware update? I updated mine yesterday and noticed an improvement in audio quality. It was never bad, just not great as a general use speaker until the update.
Mine made a weird buzzing at high volumes. I couldn’t find anything that was loose. I cut a hole in the back and it helped a lot.
That intro jam 🔥
Insightful review, many thanks!
One thing for sure is that this amp is sending a lot more than expected
Great vid!. I'd love to hear your opinion on the footswitch feature
My first amplifier was a Peavey Backstage Plus. Everyone should start with a reliable "crappy" amp.
Best demo of this amp yet! I wanted a small practice amp for my apartment where I can't use my stage rig and this video sold me. Thanks👍
An excellent application for this amp. Small homes aren't very welcoming environments for our big rigs sadly.
Fantastic review. Well done.
I am super jealous of that SC594. I've wanted that exact guitar for a while now.
I don't get some of these comments here. shoot back in the old days, if you wanted a different guitar sound you had to go out and find yourself a different cigar box. Joking aside; this was just a review and an opinion, not a comparison or statement of what's the best. Other reviews I've seen are about the same. It sounds like a decent practice amp for the money. Jack of all trades, master of none and that's not a bad thing.
Nice “The sonido of truth” influence
As far as they've come, I have a super one trick pony amp (Joyo Mjolnir driven with a tubescreamer through a V30 cab) but I threw a super cheap digitech rp150 in the FX loop just for delays and reverbs. Honestly the latest gear is pushing the envelope to a point where there's almost no discernable difference sound wise.
Great review, Colin.
Superb playing and excellent demo' ...WoW that V'
I have a gdec 15 mk3 and a gdec 30 mk2 and a fender super champ xd and a wharfedale 2x12 cabinet these are my lazy go to because don't have to set up pedals and cables. I have both tiny terrors which are great little amps I have a blackstar valve head fantastic for giging and vox ,orange and other makes I could go on but for home playing you can not beat the fender emulation for a quick and simple go to to practice. Like your demo keep up the good work.
What bridge and saddle would you recommend as a replacement for a Harley benton sc-1000
not sure what you are referring to with bridge and saddle. if you are talking about the tune-o-matic style two piece bridge, then just pick up any gotoh or wilkinson bridge with metric measurements and 74mm distance and you'll be fine. thats about 30 - 40 bucks.
the string bar probably does near to nothing for the sound (unless you listen to the gibson LP 50s original sound wizards who *swear* on their aluminium stop tailpiece making all the difference...), so just keep the one you got or if you really really have to change it, I say: go with the cheap ones, so harley benton for 13 bucks.
If by "saddle" you mean the nut, then go for pre-slotted graph tech with the right measurement (take your width and make sure its the same width on the nut). they are pretty cheap, the pre-slotting will already fit in 8 of 10 cases and therefore you probably don't have to go to a luthier to get it cut properly and they are the best you can get for tuning stability and will last a lifetime.
darillio thank you i was in for quality in the feel
@@somekindofmonkeyapprentice8697 Wilkinson generally are considered really good quality for the price, be careful though, internet is full with counterfeits for very cheap. Gotoh is also really solid built quality and widely available.
If you ask me though, the differences between bridges are way less remarkable with TOM style bridges than for example with a strat or tele style vintage trem or whatnot. There a new bridge can immensely change feel, stability and sound even. With all my TOM style bridges, I couldn't tell you any differences between a original Gibson TOM or a Harley Benton TOM style.
