Sorry, but that's a load of old cobblers. He was a Typhoon pilot who has been with the BBMF for four years. Engine failure provisionally cited as the cause. At low altitude a ton of weight in the nose of an a/c with a dead engine is a big issue. They're not designed to glide, and the prop doesn't feather, so the only way is down. Quickly.
Nobody, not one person, that puts the time & work into building a flyable Spitfire is gonna let a neophyte pilot take the controls! That's what little Cessnas are for!
