  • Bridge battle! I decide to do this video because there's not many videos where someone demoes 59n in bridge even that, it's very nice in that position too.

I use a DiMarzio 36thN in the bridge, the DO103. Wonder how it would compare to the 59N in bridge?
I can really hear the nuances in both pickups the way this comparison was done. I prefer the DiMarzio’s; but still not giving up on the 59’s.

Dimarzio 36th neck version is better in bridge than duncan 59n. Dimarzio says that, 103dp can be used in bridge too and that's true, i try it when i had 36h neck vers. Both are pretty bright in bridge. Duncan 59's are nice pickups but Dimarzio has that vintage brightness thing and attack.

Duncan 59N as in the Duncan 59 neck model being used in the bridge i would assume ?
I would love to hear the Dimarzio 59 compared to the Duncan 59 bridge and the Duncan Whole lotta Humbucker bridge . Really the full WHL set vs the full Dimarzio 59 set would be killer as they are very close in spec
They both have Roughcast and Degaussed A5 magnets and wound with Plain enamel coil wire. Both neck pickups clock in at 8.2k with the WLH bridge clocking 8.8k and Dimarzio 59 clocking in at 8.5k. I think it would be a great showdown .
I have had the WLH set in 3 guitars . 2 les pauls and an SG . Great pickups especially the neck . The neck WLH is super clear and articulate and you can play distorted open chords and heavily overdriven hard rock rythym guitar on the WLH neck without it getting muddy or overly flabby/ mushy in the lows.
Based on Dimarzio 59 demo videos i think if compared i would prefer the WLH neck and the Dimarzio 59 bridge
Best 2 neck pickups i have ever Played were the Whole lotta humbucker neck and a 2002 Gibson Burstbucker 2 with the Alnico 2 magnet swapped out for an Alnico 3. The WLH neck had the best distorted neck tone of the two but the BB2 with the A3 mag had the best neck clean tone of the two. The WlH had an extremely good clean as well but the A3 BB2 was just a little sweeter . . The WLH was the better distorted tone especially with higher gain . The A3 BB2 excelled at lower to moderate gain

I think the sd is a little darker and fuller sounding, but they are really close. I have the D59 on a PRS Marsden, and love them. I could see in some circumstances where the SD might be preferred. I also have a PRS SE standard Santana with a PG neck and a screaming demon bridge. I can't seem to dig the demon, but have a dimarzio paf 36n that I've been thinking of swapping into my bridge. I hate to mix man. pickups, but from the comments, I may have to try it.

    • @kuitaristi3003
      @kuitaristi3003  2 роки тому

Always can try it :) I hate to mix different brand pickups too because usually they are too different to each other. Dimarzio makes good pickups but those always has that different kind of feel and not as full sounding/ alive than like Duncan or Gibson paf pickups. Dimarzio's like are but that's it.

If you put sh4 to neck it's gonna be a lot louder than 59 neck at bridge, or even bridge version of 59b. Of course you can do it if you want but not ideal compination. Usually those are other way sh4 bridge and 59n in neck.

Makes me laugh! Again people saying authentic PAF tone, yea, which PAF? The one that got wound to 9k with A2 mag or the 7.5k with A5 or the 7.5 with A2 or etc.,etc.,etc. Any decent humbucker wound in the spec'd range with A2,3,4,5, is going to sound like some PAF, what about the pickups made just after they lost the sticker and stamped the pat. no. on it? The PAF thing is such a money making hype. Just get a PU you like.

My R8 has the stock BB's and they sound great. Since all PAF's sound diff I will not say PAF tone but the BB's are great vintage tone. @@thecolorhero1078 Unfortunatly the stock single coils used in a lot of the imports are steel slugs with a mag underneath, like a hum buck is made, not alnico poles. They will never sound like original Fender PU's. Darker, less top end bite etc., tho some may like that tone. Prob with PRS is he tends to like to overwind for more mids n output. I have a Sunburst 22, only made in 2009 with the original 57/08 PU's. They measure at 70 degrees at about 7.75k n 8.1k, & to me sound like A4 mags, they sound incredibly good. The ones he offers for sale now are around 8.9k n 9.2k A2 mags. And thru the years they have increased little by little. To be honest most of his PU's I don't like. The 245/Mira is 8.5-9k, 9.2-5k A5 and sound like a slightly hot vintage PU, those I like. But I've never liked aftermarkets in my PRS's. And haven't liked even the 57/08 in other guitars. Tone is just too subjective. And the phrase "PAF tone" makes me crazy.

@@kuitaristi3003its not really a complicated formula for Pages live tone though . Studio is impossible because he used so much different stuff in the studio but live from 1972 onwards is very basic . 69 to the end of 71 is the hardest because he was using custom built Hiwatt 100 watt heads which are different from the standard 100W Hiwatt DR103 amps like Gilmour played. Hiwatts are unique sounding and Pages were even more unique. They were built to sound like a cross between a standard Hiwatt and a Marshall . They had more overdrive then a regular Hiwatt but less than a Marhsall but more clean Headroom than a Marhsall . Page could get his les Paul to almost sound like a Strat with those amps and he played those Amps through Marshall cabs instead of Hiwatt Cabs and his Cabs had G12H30 55Hz bass cone speakers and that is another overlooked but very important piece of the live Page tone Puzzle . Many people think he used G12M25 Greebacks or G12H30 75hz lead cone Greenabacks but they were the G12H30 55Hz bass cone Greenbacks . Despite being a Bass cone 55Hz speaker they more sizzle and bite . They are not really darker or warmer they just have a wider frequency response.
His live tone Chain becomes simpler to recreate from 1972 onwards as he switched to Marshall across the board in February 72. His number 1 amp was a 1968 Marshall super bass with 6550 power tubes instead of El34s and 2 Marshall 1970/71 superleads and just like the Hiwatts they ran through 1968/69 Marshall 1982 Bass Cabs with 30 watt 55Hz bass cone celesttions and he used those Cabs all through Zep .Got them in spring of 69 and used them untill at least July 1980 . I'm not sure how much he used them after 1980. Those Cabs were Road worn and beaten to a Pulp . Page Still has them but I'm sure the speakers have been re coned at some point and probably more than once .
His 72 to 80 live tone . Is basic. Les Paul straight into a Marhsall Superbass and a super lead for some songs and 4 by 12 Marshall cabs with 55Hz Bass cone G12H30s and the rest is in the hands

Sometimes we get so hung up on 'boutique' pickups that we don't appreciate what there is to be gained from the big mass-makers.

The Dimarzio is much more compressed. It shaves the top end off and gives it a tiny bit more mids. In a band that top end missing is just going to make the guitar disappear. In the bedroom, it's going to sound like all the previous positive comments.

    • @richiebohr5421

I think it's just the opposite. In a band setting that top end sizzle is going to be wiped out by the cymbals. The slight bump in mids is going to make the guitar better heard in the mix. I've had both pickups. It's slight but I kept the DiMarzio 59 PAF. I will say they are both great pickups, I just prefer the DiMarzio a bit more.

I would be willing to bet that there were a few here that did not vote for that Dimarzio
simply because of past issues Dimarzio has had like the double creme use infringement issue
and trademarking the Name PAF. This really pissed many off. While i do not agree with Larry Dimarzio
