  • The August long weekend here in Ontario brought out boaters in full force! Not only was the traffic high on the water, but the endless stream of radio traffic was also evident. Oh well, good to see so many folks enjoying the beautiful summer conditions as we traveled from our stay at the Rawley Resort at Port Severn, eastward to our next spot at the top side of the Big Chute Marine Railway, Lock #44.

Renowned for is rugged beauty, Georgian Bay has been attracting adventurous boaters for over a century, but it's rocky shoreline and challenging navigation routes are not for the faint hearted and must be approached with the greatest care and respect. This video ‘put it all together’ from Severn through Big Chute. It showed busy-weekend boating, your decision process, and docking resources. I think you captured the essence of the experience. Thank you.

Great! I think you'll get a kick out of the following episode as you will see how some boaters are unable - or unwilling - to follow the simplest of instructions :-0

I was in that Lock 45 crowd on the far right side (1:11 and 1:31) in a 35' Thundercraft with the 2 kayaks and towing a RIB. Fortunately it was the beginning of our vacation and increased the patience level. I think we were there for about 2.5 hours and shared the hovering duties with my wife (She did most of it)

The 2 Searays on the inside were locking through. That is part of the Blue line. Instead of moving all the boats, the lock staff try to keep track of the order of priority

Right on. We've done it like that ourselves in the past.

It's always a treat to wait for the lock at 45 ;-)

1:52 Having a joystick to hold position in the wind is a very nice option in these circumstances....looks like the large cruiser has one ....the smaller boat with the blue accent striping is being blown by the wind. Great video as always.

Yes, a joystick, or Sky Hook option would be nice for many, but that newer technology wasn't available to those with older vessels.

Very much enjoyed watching this video! The Big Chute is a truly amazing lock. Hope to visit it someday as soon as Jetlag is like I want her.....ordered new electronics this morning!!!!! So excited for the 2020 season.

I see at 14:20 you following the 400? SeaRay. Beautiful express cruiser. Would you consider that cruiser to be a looper boat? Great video as always, appreciate you capturing all the aspects of boating and decision making as situations arise. Thank you for sharing yours and Anchor Girls experiences with us, certainly helps us become better more knowledgeable boaters.

      Thanks!
That lovely #SeaRay Sundancer you're referring to is actually the bigger 460 model. Beautiful #boat, but too big for what we would need. Yes, the 400/410 model is something we are considering. It has all we need for our cruising adventures, including a 2nd head - perfect for when the kids come to visit ;-)

Great video. We went through lock 45 a few times this Summer including 3x in one day. (long story, but not as long as it took waiting to lock through those 3 times!) The lock staff at 45 were always so great and friendly.

Yes, the staff there are always helpful. Would be nice to see Cam (ua-cam.com/video/lHq_dfRu5f4/v-deo.html) back as Lock Master (Lockmaster?) this year. . .

That big chute has some awesome cliff diving in it. Before that huge fence was put up. Sad to see them ruin such a beautiful place with an ugly fence. But more and more citiots are comming and ruining everything fun for the locals.

If you look way back in my channel you'll find video of the Big Chute, prior to the fencing going up.
