Thiruvathirakali, also known as Kaikottikali, is a traditional dance form of Kerala that holds deep cultural significance. It is a mesmerizing synchronized group dance performed annually by women, with the intention of seeking blessings from Lord Shiva. The enchanting visuals of dancers adorned in traditional attire, gracefully clapping and intertwining their hands around a traditional wick lamp called Nilavilakku, illuminate the beauty of "God's Own Country." The name Kaikottikali itself refers to the rhythmic clapping that has become globally synonymous with this art form. The circular motions of the dancers resemble gentle waves, perpetually encircling the lamp. Thiruvathirakali is performed to invoke peace and harmony in one's marital life and is cherished in various regions of South India. The delicate and reverent movements of the devotees, known as lasya, exemplify their profound devotion to the Almighty.
