30:00 I could be wrong, but I always took Rust holding Marty's hand back was a way of restraining him, rather than trying to hurt him more. There's a reason Rust didn't really fight back, he knew Marty had a right to be that pissed off, he was just trying to defuse the situation.
Did he really "have a right" to be mad after cheating twice? I'd say no. Women go for the heart when it comes to this stuff and they know exactly where that is most of the time.
@@nomadman5288 Sheee-it. Cheating *twice*? That's just the times WE'VE seen. According to Maggie (and I 100% believe her), he's been having honeys on the side for SEVENTEEN YEARS throughout their relationship. She was cold and calculating (in her planning), but Marty ABSOLUETLY had that shit coming.
@@nomadman5288 Actually you're 100% right, I suppose Marty didn't necessarily 'have a right' to be angry, more that Rust probably expected him to be and that what happened with Maggie was wrong on his part, so he let Marty hit him and didn't really fight back. And as for Marty, that's one of his many flaws: hypocrisy. He projects a lot and doesn't like when it's him who's on the wrong end of a fucked up situation. He even called Maggie a fucking whore for doing the same thing he's been doing.
Telling her to kill herself was a kindness. He doesn't really care for her, but he still offered up legitimate advice for her situation, better to die how you choose than to be abused in the system, especially by the other inmates who really fuck with people who hurt children.
@@suelancaster6959 He may hate her but he also knows life sucks, and her life is going to suck extra now, her being in prison and getting beaten is a better form of hate than her killing herself.
Marty starts the Season paranoid about Rust "mowing his lawn", but isolates both Rust (by not backing him up with the chief) and Maggie (by cheating on her) emotionally through his actions, which leads to their tryst in the end. Irony without humor is violence and Marty felt that shit. He's had a long time to reflect on it too.
Back when i first watched this one It felt to me like the guy Tuttle called up to "show the archives" to Rust was really there to dispose of him for asking questions about the Tuttle ministry. Had that vibe to me but maybe not
I love that you called out the credit music. It's the same song that was playing when they were driving to the bunny ranch, just at a drastically slower tempo.
To be fair, Cohle had been drinking. I imagine he was a least a few drinks in and feeling it pretty good by the way he was looking. He had no chance. Sober? Maybe. Drunk? It was over before it even got started. She's also not lying about the split not having anything to do with Cohle. Marty had already cheated, so she already decided.
The detectives in the present were for sure hinting at there being an affair when they were questioning Maggie. They straight up asked her if her divorce had anything to do with Cole.
A few things: - Marty threw up after beating the two kids because he felt guilty/shitty about it, after the fact ("post-nut clarity") - ain't no one listening to Rust's Tuttle theories because the Tuttles are all TRHOUGHOUT that goddamned state: ministers, cops, councilmen, senators...they got that state on *lock*, and Rust is lucky his ass didn't get "disappeared" for trying to look shit up on them - Maggie may have been cold & calculating by fucking Rust - and that *definitely* broke their friendship - but she 100% deserved to crush Marty, ESPECIALLY after he had been having side-pieces for SEVENTEEN YEARS throughout their relationship
If I'm right, y'all haven't watched ''Boardwalk Empire'' yet, created & produced by Terence Winter (writer and producer of ''The Sopranos''), Tim Van Patten (the actor who gives an incredible performance in the 1982 cult classic ''Class of 1984'' and director of many Sopranos episodes) & Martin Scorsese (who directed the pilot) and more....it stars Steve Buscemi, Michael K Williams (''Omar Little''), and Shea Whigham (the preacher ''Joel Theriot'' in ''True Detective'' which y'all didn't mentioned, or recognized when he appeared) and again with an amazing cast....
That Charlie Murphy edit outta nowhere. Also with how nice the Tuttle ministry base is its kind of weird that reverend Tuttle has a neon cross in his office. Neon is often seen as tacky like something you see at night on the side of the road. The rest of the ministries look classy with nice furnishings but that neon cross right next to Tuttle feels out of place.
All that "premeditated" stuff ain't gonna make Maggie the bad guy in this situation. Marty fucked around once - and he was carrying on that affair for a good long time - and she found out and let him stay without doing anything about it. Then he does it again? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Idc how innocent maggie is, that's dirty and childish. If its really about the kids, just divorce him while being the good guy. I get it, and i don't feel bad for Marty. But that don't make it right.
Marty is despicable. Maggie could do anything and it wouldn’t match what he’s done to her. Why does she have to be the good guy? Why can’t she hurt him a fraction of how he’s hurt her?
It’s not about it being justified or about hurting him. She thinks it’s the only way he will stop. Stop pursuing a life with her that he can’t sustain anyway. If he hates her, he’ll leave her to live the rest of her life, and she can think of no other way to make him hate her.
Season 3 of True Detective is very good. It runs a very close second to S1. Extremely worth a watch. S2 is a straight up pos. S4 tried to be S1 too hard, and failed.
The wife's logic is surprisingly evil. She figures Rust is already on a self-destructive path, so doesn't mind endangering him by sending her compulsively jealous, abusive, violent idiot of a husband after him just to get out of her marriage in a satisfying way. What's surprising is how hurt Rust looks when he realizes what she's doing. He seems unshakeable at most times, but somehow her complete disregard for him is a gut-punch. He saw her as representing something healthy and wholesome, and she turns out to be totally self-involved and unkind, willing to inflict collateral damage just to hurt Marty.
People keep recommending Boardwalk Empire. I say don't. Poorly edited and two decent seasons at most. I'd rather go for Gomorrah, the Italian series. Complete soul crushing darkness. Five seasons and I didn't crack a smile once. It's gotta be experienced.
You guys need to watch Boardwalk Empire at some point. The guy who plays the rundown preacher has a major role in that show and he's great.
Bralik really put Maggie's face in the discussion background as she's getting that Rusty Pipe lmaoo
The intro and outro is done by Formal. 😂

Woody Harrelson played Carnage in the new Venom movie.
Facts. Let’s not forget natural born killers 😬
And he was the villain in War for the Planet of the Apes

True, as harsh as it sounds Rust suggested her the easier way out. Pedos and child abusers have HARD time in prison - as they should.
Pretty sure Rust told her that bc she was killing her children. His whole character has been shaped by the loss of his child.
@@suelancaster6959 He may hate her but he also knows life sucks, and her life is going to suck extra now, her being in prison and getting beaten is a better form of hate than her killing herself.
Child abusers get it so rough in prison because more than a lot of prisoners were abused as children.
Exactly
I always thought it was funny how she came in with her cute little bottle of wine when Rust is already neck-deep in Jameson
Maggie came in double cheeked up and went for his neck. Rust got outplayed and I don’t blame him
He had also been drinking.

This show is prime TV, and your reaction is gold
Good stuff guys. Lookin' forward to the final showdown! (Also, the classic scene in a garage with one man avoiding that VHS.)
Back when i first watched this one It felt to me like the guy Tuttle called up to "show the archives" to Rust was really there to dispose of him for asking questions about the Tuttle ministry. Had that vibe to me but maybe not
Same here, Rust knew better not to go there alone
Lots of swamps and gators around.
Russ pumps and then dumps angrily. Fair play though he knew he was being used.
“Somethings wrong with Russ, somethings wrong with Russ.” 😂
Hi Guys...don't forget 2 keys pieces of information for next episode, 2 breakins at Tuttle's homes, and he committed suicide.
I love that you called out the credit music. It's the same song that was playing when they were driving to the bunny ranch, just at a drastically slower tempo.
Amazing, i'm gonna have to watch this again! The drunk ex-reverend is a great actor, you'll see him in Boardwalk Empire if you guys do that show.
She basically took advantage of Rust. She went over there to do what she did, he was drinking and vulnerable. He was weak and she got it.
I sure hope you do the last episodes combined in one reaction.
Buckle up for these last two.

This episode is so fucking good. The rest of the season is great too

She didn't lie though. It was because Marty cheated again, not because she seduced Cohle.

Dope Sopranos shirt!
Watch the second Venom movie to see Woody as a superhero villain

Comment that on their soprano vids, see what type of replies it gets lol.
