One thing I liked about this episode was that the issue with Ensign Sito reminds me of a similar incident on Murder She Wrote with a character called Preston Giles. Preston starts out in the first episode (The Murder of Sherlock Holmes) as a publisher, but winds up at the end to be the murderer. He returns for a second episode later in the series and winds up being killed at the end. This episode with Ensign Sito is similar, because she, too, was involved in an incident where someone died and then she showed up in another episode and died at the end. I give this an A, as well.

Lower decks animated show is really good. The trailer makes it look stupid. But imo it's the best star trek since the 1990s. The show really respects cannon and pays extremely close attention to detail to the series as a whole. Worth watching. It's not what you think. It's not for young audiences. It would be great if you guys would review that show. Edit: The first 2 seasons of ST:Picard is the worst star trek ever. That's saying something since STD is still a thing.
Don't believe they had knowledge of the candle holder when Moriarty's simulation in the memory cube was created. Suppose they could have updated the data in the extended memory device, but assume they wouldn't see the need for that.
Lower Decks got good & especially good at bringing back old canon that the show would often ignore, answering the "what happened?" questions with a lot of actors coming back to reprise their characters. However as it gets closer to Abrams stuff it'll downgrade fast. Picard is built on the aftermath of Abrams, helmed by 2 men who openly despise Star Trek, staffed by actors who needed a paycheck, content to randomly kill off character & now the Enterprise-D is back and... who cares. Mariner went to the academy at the time of "First Duty" & blamed Nick Locarno for not only ruining the careers of his squadron but also Sito's death. It became personal when Nick shows up again, refusing to accept any personal blame & still claiming Starfleet was unfair, having gathered a bunch of ships to his cause. McNeill had returned as Tom Paris in LD prior & they do once make a comment on how Locarno looks like him.
If you want to know who ELSE Dan Gauthier is, look up "Teen Witch 10/12 Top That", and have a look for his character playing a central role in the scene, you will NOT be disappointed
You can complain about how everyone's smiling too much, but people were just generally happier all the time in the '90s because all of the sadness and moping was focused into grunge and it was hard to suppress that! It's like how every film from the 60s the actors are way too horny.
This reminds me. In the entire series, has Geordi ever won at poker? I know he came close when they made that bet with Beverly about dyeing her hair but we never found out what happened.
This is hilarious as lower decks is basically how you guys review this show. Just made inro episodes of Trek. It basically constantly pokes holes in the shows own premise!!! Which is hilarious
Good review. Good episode. I don't see giving this quite an A-/A grade, because we really don't see these types of characters enough (or again) to get a complete view of their development. However, the way they did this was well done. B+.
I've heard two different things about them, Taurik and Vorik are either fraternal twins or first cousins. But definitely two different characters. Enberg is a talented actor, because upon watching Voyager and then a rewatch of ST:TNG Lower Decks, you realize he did some consistent things that distinguish Vorik from Taurik; change of facial expressions, vocal modulation and pitch... Vorik felt much more like a character that was hiding internal chaos, whereas Taurik felt much more comfortable and in touch with his (controlled) emotions.
I think a great new show would have been one about Ensign Nog. You have a racist instructor at ST Academy assign him to a Garbage Scow for the 1st season. After he turns the crew around Nog is transferred to an Escort Ship for the second season with a whole new cast. And so on up through the ranks and a different ship almost every season. This would have been a real Lower Decks.
Lower Decks is comedic, but a lot of the humor is the same sort of self-referential poking fun at Star Trek tropes as you guys do, so you might enjoy it.
Seconded on LD. I mentioned that a moment ago so now I feel like "Cause and Effect", but without Fletcher and the joke involving that commercial about not getting up.
I just used many more words to try and express this exact sentiment. I'm not a fan of Futurama or Family Guy, and I recommend they watch (and post video reviews) of Lower Decks episodes.
I think Nurse Ogawa felt out of place in this episode because of her age compared to the other ensigns. She was substantially older than the others and it just didn't seem like she would fit in to that group. It was another weird Star Trek age/rank disparity having a 40-year-old playing a lowest rank officer. Ogawa is older than Geordi and Deanna but still only an ensign?
You should at least watch the cross over episode Star Trek Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds. Sorry if you have done that - I'm watching this 10/30/24.
You should give the Lower Decks cartoon a chance. It's definitely not as bad as I expected. Sure, it's got some very silly plots but it feels like a comedy cartoon made by actual Star Trek fans rather than the new live action shows feeling like Star Trek being made by people who hate Star Trek.
I stopped watching after season 1 I've seen clips & reviews and it's just an EASTER EGG HUNT where they point out the FAN SERVICE and they crossed over with and alternate universe past SNW

I always wonder where on these shuttles the escape pod is supposedmto be. Or anything really.
The runabout was the first well sized shuttle.
I consider this episode the pinnacle of Star Trek TNG storytelling. I have watched it many times, and it always moves me.
I'd rather you review the first 2 seasons of Enterprise than fucking Picard lol
"...90s young people TV show acting."
If I'm not mistaken, this episode aired in 1994.
You know that musician Gotye? That's how you pronounce Gauthier. Goat yay!
If you want to know who ELSE Dan Gauthier is, look up "Teen Witch 10/12 Top That", and have a look for his character playing a central role in the scene, you will NOT be disappointed
Dan Gauthier also played a role in Tour of Duty. I think he was a helicopter pilot.
You can complain about how everyone's smiling too much, but people were just generally happier all the time in the '90s because all of the sadness and moping was focused into grunge and it was hard to suppress that! It's like how every film from the 60s the actors are way too horny.
Oh, and the guy that plays Taurik is the kid of one of the producers.
This reminds me. In the entire series, has Geordi ever won at poker? I know he came close when they made that bet with Beverly about dyeing her hair but we never found out what happened.
that's why you need to watch lower decks its really good
FUN FACT
these lower deck
characters
were supposed to be on
VOYAGER
the vulcan's twin
was on
VOYAGER
This is hilarious as lower decks is basically how you guys review this show. Just made inro episodes of Trek. It basically constantly pokes holes in the shows own premise!!! Which is hilarious
Can't wait for the DS9 reviews
Lower Desk the animated series is worth watching guys especially if you are a tng/ds9/voy fan
Lower Decks is a great show.
@1:42 the environmental systems seems to fail that nippling day. I suspect Geordi ! ;)
In the final seasons the writers got to write plot lines that they had always wanted to write. That's my take on it at least
Can't wait for star trek voy reverse angle style reviews
Good review. Good episode. I don't see giving this quite an A-/A grade, because we really don't see these types of characters enough (or again) to get a complete view of their development. However, the way they did this was well done. B+.
Anyone mention yet that the Torek actor is Vorek in Voyager...? Still a Vulcan.
The Crusher/Ogawa scenes were ruined by the difference in vasoline on the camera lenses for the two actors
Ensign Sito needed a mini series
I think a great new show would have been one about Ensign Nog. You have a racist instructor at ST Academy assign him to a Garbage Scow for the 1st season. After he turns the crew around Nog is transferred to an Escort Ship for the second season with a whole new cast. And so on up through the ranks and a different ship almost every season. This would have been a real Lower Decks.
Higher decks when
CONTINUITY ERROR
wouldn't the
KARDASHIANS
I mean
CARDASSIANS
recognize the name
USS ENTERPRISE
on the shuttle
Lower Decks is comedic, but a lot of the humor is the same sort of self-referential poking fun at Star Trek tropes as you guys do, so you might enjoy it.
Hey in one episode they pointed out how stupid sub Rosa was with one of the characters saying how weird it was belverly had sex with a space ghost lol
Seconded on LD. I mentioned that a moment ago so now I feel like "Cause and Effect", but without Fletcher and the joke involving that commercial about not getting up.
Agreed
I just used many more words to try and express this exact sentiment. I'm not a fan of Futurama or Family Guy, and I recommend they watch (and post video reviews) of Lower Decks episodes.
Another enjoyable review
Jocular, how long have you been waiting to PULL that one out?
lower decks can have some difficult (cringe) moments but overall i loved it even though i thought i would hate it like you
The 2 I like is Ogawa. And Sito. ❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍
I had such a crush on Ensign Sito Jaxa. She is so ridiculously hot. But also, she just seemed so sweet.
Gauthier is a French Canadian name pronounced "Go-tyay"
Lower Decks is amazing, you guys would hate it...
So good!!!
You should at least watch the cross over episode Star Trek Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds. Sorry if you have done that - I'm watching this 10/30/24.
Sub Rosa, Lower Decks; there's not much difference. After all, sub is lower, and didn't Troi find flowers on various decks in Second Chances?
You should give the Lower Decks cartoon a chance. It's definitely not as bad as I expected. Sure, it's got some very silly plots but it feels like a comedy cartoon made by actual Star Trek fans rather than the new live action shows feeling like Star Trek being made by people who hate Star Trek.
I stopped watching after
season 1
I've seen clips & reviews
and it's just
an EASTER EGG HUNT
where they point out the

and they crossed over with

Lower Decks the show is excellent
Also agree. Completely uninterested in ST:LD. Couldn't care less.
The lower decks show seems lame at first, but grows on you.
Sito is so hot after she gets "beat up". Idk, I think it's the hair or something.
Aw bless you don't like new trek!!!!
0:50
human ... bajoran ... vulcan ... nurse
something odd there
I can't tell if you're joking, but being Canadian and being Alaskan are nothing alike. That's not saying being Texan and being Mexican is the same difference.
♥👍
I don't know why *Sub Rosa* gets such a bad rap.
