In November I went to the 100th birthday party of a man who was lead navigator for about 400 of the resupply b-24' mentioned about 16:30 into this. His proudest day!
Just had a look at this video. Pretty much the best I have seen on Varsity. My Dad was in the first 6th Airborne wave into Hamminkeln. I visited Hamminkeln in 2012 with my son and visited the woods/field where his group landed. I have a piece of parachute cord and buckle given to me by a wonderful German guide from Hamminkeln.
@@curt0571 I'm so sorry to hear that . My Uncle served in R.A.F Bomber Command 1944 - 45 and was almost killed on a raid on St .Vith Be lgium , his hands were badly burned but he survived . We must never forget those men and women who served at that time .
The glider regiments are fascinating, yet courageous in having a legitimate role in a planned assault. Landing very close to enemy targets by using quiet gliders must have been so audacious and bold, concerning new airborne strategies.

6:00 "Johnson! You've burned a hole in your objective man!!"
There seems to be a lot of Market - Garden and Varsity mixed in here ? .

My guide in Hamminkeln is Ortwin Nissing
Monty: I'll need the entire 21st Army Group and a massive set-piece battle to establish a foothold across the Rhine.
Patton: Hold my beer!
Hodges: Hey you guys, I’ve been across for two weeks!
