The main problem, as I see it, is too many people take too much of what they are told on pure faith that it is true, without requiring any evidence, only because of the person giving the information. What you choose to believe should be based on verified evidence. If the person giving the information doesn't provide such evidence, look it up for yourself. Stop being passive lumps, and learn to think for yourselves.
Thank you for this George, I've just sat down and keyed in my notes to you in regards to the our differences we are growing apart exponentially, especially all those who are moving about and children with roots in many places and families with many different kinds of faces. . . which have been growing in us since life first manifested on earth. Twas vineyards and John Delaney's TedTalk about oceans sharing 'each vent sports its own unique flora and fauna'. heard the same talk in Yellow Stone Park from a ranger, and a similar talk about the ancient tree tops, each having their own unique community of critters and creatures . . The fusing of the different ancestral energies including those of place living in an electronic static with all the subtle ways of nature being overpowered by having gone heywire with a hooking us up from pole to pole and hiding the stars above from youth's eyes.
Major audio problems [miking] guitar and/or voice, for our singer, Mr. McLennan, for such an important presentation. The audio for the speaker, Mr. Monbiot, is mostly quite good, by contrast, but also is wavering, in quality. Notable for these two presenters is the absence of the ever-present TED, head worn, Mics.. I wondering if the TED Techs were so familiar with the head worn mics, more exclusively, that a different style microphone(s) was not yet in their active vocabulary as far as getting sound as good as could be got. Not on this day, unfortunately. That is not to say the message is not very vital and very important, in so many ways, though, personally, the good, better, best, ranking of living creatures, of perhaps all things, is very limiting, is very dangerous, and ultimately as isolating as the Talk this talk is trying to prevent.
As you say a very important message and is somewhat wasted by such poor audio quality. Mr. McLennan is a real talent and I enjoy most of all he does. This would be an exception
@@daveharrison8286 Oh Thank you for your reply. Usually the TED productions are of good quality audio. The song has quite a good message. The good potential of a TED talk's exposure I think was diminished by poor quality audio in this video.
Being a strong community sounds great in theory but I find it hard to view humans as anything other than a selfish, rotten species when I consider the amount of times someone took advantage of me. The amount of people that have humiliated me. George talks about us viewing other humans as a threat but when I think about how many times a random humans has given me abuse for no reason I think I'm entitled to view humans as such. Humans are the only species that kill other species for the sheer thrill of it. George Monbiot should know better than to have a rose tinted view of humanity.
I agree, what are you saying and have the same opinion about human species. But I always appreciated of anybody who carry the ideas of friendship, trust, good will, which are not so strange still for some of us and which wakes up that part of human's nature enable to respond, hopefully, in the same way.
You are not entitled to view me as such because you don’t know me and you don’t know the empathy I have and the love I have for all living creatures on this earth. Maybe look at changing yourself, to try smiling and to try being nice to people and you will get it back my friend, believe me. Think of others more rather than a total focus on yourself.
I'm very sorry that this has been your experience but beware of generalisations, particularly negative ones. We tend to take our own experience of life and extrapolate it onto the whole of life itself. Just because people have taken advantage of you and humiliated you does not mean that this reflects human nature as a whole. If we entertain such narratives, we may unwittingly perpetuate them. And yes, there are those that kill or injure for the thrill of it, but does that represent the essense of humanity? You're frowning on such people in your comment, are you not?
@@edredwhittingham4417 Hi Edred thanks for your thoughtful comment. I made the comment you replied to three ago and I can say I'm in a better, more clear frame of mind now then I was back then. I am still a bit wary in some situations, such as if a group of strangers passes me by on the street and I am more cautious in certain situation, but I no longer hold such negative generalisations about all of humanity. There are good people and bad people (as you elude to) and I do my best to be one of the good ones without allowing for myself to be a 'sucker' for other people.
Great message. Thank you, I got a lot from this and beautiful music too.
Excelent talk George , lovely songs Ewan

Who were you addressing this point to? Or was it a general point?
The combination of exhortation and music reminds me of church. Lovely.
Love that shirt George!
Stunning music!

This makes me sad :(

@@christopheradshead7876 Wonderful to hear, Christopher. All the very best to you!
Guitar too load and voice too quiet!
Terry Moore its not a U2 gig
So you missed the point too. Let me explain, there are too many selfish cunts in the world and not enough people looking out for one another.
