dang i just bought onyx studio 5 at sprint yesterday lovin it , gotta love that smooth bass , dang u wont disappoint.
Heel right now the Onyx Studio 5 cost $119 and JBL boombox cost $449 the Onyx is way better Bass which is ridiculous because JBL bass is nothing compared to the studio 5 I mean the Boombox is louder but that's about all.

Got oynx 5 ... the bass just shakes my couch .. incredible... but need to be plugged for full bass... on battery mode it reduces little... highs are little warm... but overall great speaker... the 6th version is also water proof

I bought my Hk O S 5 from a Sprint employee that won it as a prize for his production. He said that he already had two,, so I offered him $100 for the third and he accepted it. Everything he told about obtaining the speaker was said in front of his manager, and he still works there from almost a year ago. I've been loving life with the speaker for the exception of using it to talk on my cell phone. Do you know how to have a conversation through the speaker, or do I have to fire up my cell phone flashlight to read the tiny-print instruction manual?

Hey man, its just a suggestion that you should've kept the boombox on indoor mode as you're recording these audio in studio right. The bass performance in indoor mode on boombox is pretty good if it is playing inside a room and I think you should've have choosen indoor mode to make this sound comparison a little bit more fair, cause playing boombox on outdoor mode doesn't really make any sense if the speaker is playing inside of a room as it sounds boomy and it boosts/ pushes the bass frequencies at around 70-80hz which doesn't sound good in indoors.

@@DLXWillington well we could have both, and actually be outdoors where the JBL really punches with a harsher sound it uses that harshness to reach your ears where the softer more controlled HK cant compete.

You didn't have the Onyx plugged in when you were comparing them, did you? Cause the Onyx is significantly louder when plugged in.

Boombox is 40 watts rms battery and 60 watts rms AC power. Boombox two is 60 watts rms battery. And 80 watts rms plugged in

IMHO, though they both sound good, the Boombox with its additional 101mm woofer and extra tweeter, helped it out perform the Studio 5 in most categories with its only one tweeter and a little bit larger one 120mm woofer. Because like I said, they both sound good, but the only other question is, are you willing to pay that extra nearly $200.00 bucks to get the Boombox that sounds only slightly better than the Studio 5.

Harmon Kardon, Infinty, and JBL are the same company so If you are satisfied with one, you will almost always be satisfied with the other, they are of the same quality just different acoustic engineers and designed for different applications.
Keep the battery backup in ur mind of onyx studio 5 it's the worst

answer is so easy for the price-performance, HK...
boobmbox has the wider stereo stage and clarity but THATS ALL. ALL THE REST, ONYX STUDIO 5 is the WINNER. -> better price, smaller size, better bass, better quality up to max volume etc.
But the boom box has better pitch than the onyx 5
@@xgamer34_94 no. with quality i meant the soudn quality. the onys studio 5 has a better pitch/ soundquality in bass, mids and highs. the boombox 's treble is too harsh , at leasst at higher volumes. it is jsut not worth the price.
In person the bass experience just hasn't been equal to me than the Boombox
Studio 5 cost $129 and boombox still cost $449 too much money.

How is the battery life from the Onyx? Last generation performed poorly on battery life. The old Onyx had great sound, but who wants to buy a BT speaker which needs to be plugged in 24/7 Good review, but you must include battery performance info as well. @@DrAmoro , I have a go play and onyx studio 4 right now. Go play sounds amazing, better than boombox (clarity, low frequency bass) but it's not that loud. Onyx studio 4 sounds almost as good as go play (onyx has a little bit higher lowest frequency response than the go play, so go play bass is more impressive), but not that loud as go play. Still, I can say it's amazing.

Unfortunately, go & play doesn't have connect+... Even onyx studio 5 which I'm going to buy in a few months doesn't have connect+, but onyx studio 4 has and you even can connect it to JBL speakers with connect+ feature. That's some sort of bullshit from harman.

These 2 speakers are as different as night and day. The boombox targets young unrefined ears and as for the studio 5 , it targets audiophiles. Great comparison though.
@JblBassTester1000 the boombox is louder dude ... there's a difference between loudest and audiophile worthy. Your ears are tuned with earwax and mud . Kids and teenagers love the boombox, but people with real listening skills listen for all instruments, not just the bass .
@JblBassTester1000 I not only own both of these speakers , but I am also a bluetooth stereo builder . I know the sound profile of these speakers. JBL boombox gets very loud , but starts breaking apart at higher volumes. Studio 5 is stable at its highest volumes and never breaks up . Boombox is portable and goes anywhere because that was the aim when it was developed. Studio 5 is for advanced listening as the name of it implies. They're both great speakers, but I am an audiophile which is why I got into building my own stereos because I'm never satisfied with what is being sold by these different companies. I use much larger components by Focal or Polk audio to build my stereos with incredible results. You should try it yourself. You'd be surprised at the amazing sounds you can get using your own hands .
@JblBassTester1000 you have to think for a moment. These companies are ripping people off selling cheap goods for extremely high prices. Tear down both of these speakers and you'll see the tweeters and woofers are cheap. The boombox cost maybe 50dollars to build, if that . But retails for 449 ? Ridiculous! It costs me 300 to build my stereos, and they are 500w , with 10 hours of play time. So either one of these stereos aren't worth the money I spent on them.
@JblBassTester1000 there are thousands of videos on speaker building on UA-cam. You can buy birch, German hardwood, oak , and MDF from lowes , or home depot. You can buy components from Polk, focal, circuit city, Ebay, Amazon, ect . I've been building speakers for 15 years , and I'm constantly learning more with each build. These companies are ripping us off using cheap components and tricks that make these stereos sound more premium and charging us 3x's as much money as its worth. The bass radiators are 3.49 a peice from China

I'm listening to this on my Samsung SR home System both are really good on bass, but the jbl is way louder, but the guy on the video said studios 5 last long, I'll go with quality that last longer...that my opinion.
I own the boom box but would swap my mate for his HK in a minute. Just wish the battery life was better on the HK.
100% on boombox is unbearable and 100% on HK is like listening at 80%…so clean and crisp on comparison.
HK 6 is basically the same a the HK 5.

I bought the onyx 5... something was wrong with the battery charging after 2 months. I sent it back and they sent boom box, saying onyx 5 was out of stock. I was very disappointed with the base quality. The whole reason i purchased was for the sound it produced

Bluetooth connect and a small tear on the cloth I know will eventually spread but thankfully there's a one time trade in, return Harman offers but I was also told there's no #6 In stock and I was offered the Boombox 2.
I Dj small party rooms w my #3 and now my #6 and I like to play Domino's and cookout and chill w fam n homies outside, I also listen to it when painting Murals #6 rocks!
I just wish it was a little louder. It has enough battery life for what I do.

I have a Studio 5 & the bass tones are great. The highs leave a lot to desire, but I've heard that's been fixed with the Studio 6, so I ordered it & it will be here tomorrow. Can't wait!

@@harviwinanda1741 definitely lighter. Other than that, the mids / highs are improved and I'm not sure if the lows are worse or if it's just better balanced now and the lows don't stand out as much now as they did previously, I'll have to listen to it more.
Personally, I'd wait and I don't think it's worth upgrading, if you currently have the studio 5, unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Even, if so, there are a lot of other things you could spend your money on.
I'm just not noticing much improvement & that's a shame.
for the soft and comfortable sound in my ears I chose, HK Onyx Studio 5..

I've been buying onxy studio's since the 2. To me HK has a great sound and they are top notch quality. That's just my opinion of course but I'd rather spend a little more for a product that I don't need to replace often.

Idk why in almost every song you had the boombox in outdoor mode, it just cuts the deeper bass... hence all people saying the studio 5 has alot better bass, but the boombox in indoor mode actually can play at similar frequencies, and its quite a bit louder. I NEVER use outdoor mode on my boombox, indoor sounds way nicer.
the onyx 5 is amazing , i am just thinking if i should upgrade to a onyx 6 or 7 i am looking at a lot of comparisons

Maybe this is previously mentioned, but plugging in the Studio 5 will give you an extra 20 watts, could make or break this test and close that gap giving JBL the win here. Just saying... Unplugged, running on its own battery, the Studio 5 is pushing 30 watts, but plugged in, it's 50 WATTS.
(It's noticeable difference)

Boombox for me.. Wide range, Crispy treble, clarity and sounds more natural on bass.. On onyx5 bass is good but sounds like hifi and auto tune..
To me the JBl sounds better with music that has more of a punch like rap or club,the highs seems more crisp to me.

For me, the Onyx Studio 5 has a surprising amount of bass for its size, it wont have the loudness as the JBL Boombox. But for the JBL Boombox, it can get really loud but for the cost of its size and weight, and personally when at max volume the JBL Boombox sounds too sharp and distorted. While the harmon kardon handles it fine. But its up the to the taste of the customer.

Thank you for showing us this beautiful test video between these two models. For me the only defect on HK Studio 5 remains the short duration of the battery that only 8 hours depending on the use. But I wanted to know if there is the possibility to replace or double the battery finally to get good autonomy. Is possible ?
I just reduce bass in my eq then it lasts twice as long. You can probably add batteries to the onyx but i wouldn't do that just now. I'll rather wait for the studio 7 or something

Despite the good fight it put up, nothing beats stereo sound and JBL Bass.
If they make a boombox 2 I swear on my speaker collection it better outperform the studio 5 overall!!! =/ I love the boombox take it with me to work and other places, but since I bout studio 5 definitely use it more inside!The bass is nuts and is definitely what I expected when I got the boombox! But love both speakers anyway!
