    I’ll be forever grateful to have had this show among others growing up over 20 years ago. Just wish Will and Vince had stayed together and he quit devoting his life to everyone else’s happiness but his own.

    This is why I admire shows like Will & Grace, Golden Girls and Fresh Prince. They tackled very real human and social issues with aplomb. Not always perfect endings but with takeaways that stay with you much beyond their respective lifespans.

    "it's hard being me" is such a powerful statement. Most people don't get that. It's easy to say 'just be yourself', but when you have tried before and get belittled and teased and joked and questioned by the poeple who are suppose to love you no matter what, being yourself is suddenly bad and becomes scary. It can take years to get over that. I'm 31 and can suddenly feel free to be myself more than ever have around my family, but there are still things I can't say or do around them that I freely can around the friends I made at work. But it's getting better. Each new little achievement helps you breath better. Even if it's a small little joke they finally laugh at.

      The first clip is what made me come out. At age 28. When Will said “aren’t you tired?” That hit is me hard. I was tired and I immediately drove over to my parent’s house and came out. This show is classic and will forever have fond memories. Plus it is funny as hell.

    as a young gay kid growing up in rural Alabama during the 90s, this show was immensely important for me. the only time i saw gay people at all, they were either dying from AIDS (Pedro Zamora) or hate crimes (Matthew Shepard). It made me feel like being gay was a death sentence. If AIDS didn't kill you, then straight people would. Will and Grace showed gay men living full lives with friends, family, careers... something that i never saw outside of that.

    This show was a big part of me coming out, in a way. I was preoccupied with it around the same time I fully came out to my parents, and my mom and I ended up watching it religiously for years afterwards, it was a bonding thing. And Will was always the model of a successful strong, confident gay man, I also had a huge crush on him.

    I used to watch this show way back, in secret. Raised Conservative Christian right-wing. I'm extremely straight, but I just never understood why anybody cared what other people do for themselves. I just never understood why it was supposed to be wrong. Why the thought seemed to make everybody that I knew at the time so uncomfortable, so violent. I also had my own secrets, and have learned to be myself. This show was incredible. This show was ahead of its time.

    I miss the old seasons. Unsurprisingly, Gen Z has already found it to be problematic, of course, but it just goes to show how quickly acceptance was gained in the US by us simply being open and out as ourselves. W&G will be timeless for us who watched this decades ago. ❤️

    @Sas-rf9sy Рік тому +22

    Wills little speech about being tired of hiding who he was is really relatable to many and you don't have to be gay. It's really just about being accepted as you are. A sense of belonging. Being included as you are by society. Because having to change yourself to fit the expectations of others is tiring. In the long run it can probably give rise to serious conflicts within yourself to the point where you think you can't be loved, liked or accepted how you are and must accept being a fake version of yourself to make others happy. Sadly it doesn't work for everybody as it works out for Jack.

    • @jaya.d-gauthier1644
      @jaya.d-gauthier1644 Рік тому +11

      I took that entirely differently tbh. For me it was sad how over seasons Will became less of himself and more stereotypical and needing to be “good guy activist” when he had been accepted all along. He chose Grace over several relationships, Jack’s trivial matters of “injustice” like a kiss on TV, and everyone else’s drama. He lost all his confidence while Jack lived happily ever after and the only difference between the two was valuing one’s own happiness.

      Over that hoax case of ambulance chasers who made us look insane? Didn’t think there were any LGBT people who didn’t see through that lie as if we’d want to force someone to take our money to make something our family and friends are to eat? Maybe Will’s detriment was making his entire being a gay man with something to prove that he didn’t allow himself love like with Vince. Wish they’d stay together.
