    I have a buddy I golf with who we nick named Shooter, after Shooter Mcgavin. He wore that nickname on his sleve so proud. Fast foward to his wedding day... 2 years ago. The best man stood up to give his best man speech, and said "I'm not going to give the best man speech... he turned to a screen where he paid the real Shooter Mcgavin to give the best man speech at the wedding. Everyone went nuts!!!

    The taxes was with interest and fees accrued. And as an older lady, shed get a lot of exemptions. But yeah property tax is about 1-2% a year on average. Different localities have different amounts, since property taxes go to the area you’re at for schools and such. So if you have a million dollar house or more, you’re paying tens of thousands a year. If your house is worth $2million you’d be paying around $20k+ a year.

    • @A-TOP-11

      @@A-TOP-11 as a European i can assure you, NHS isn’t as amazing as you guys seem to think it is. Most actually end up paying extra to avoid the lines. We like to brag just to seem superior but our system is just as shite. Our neighbors child broke a leg and she just got it wrapped and sent home with tylenol. She had to wait a week to go back and had it set and casted. Something that would be unheard of in the US. No parent wants to have their 10yr old suffer like that for a week. I’d rather just get on some payment plan. Both systems need to be revamped and reworked. As for Uni prices, yeah that’s just idiotic. It’s almost as if the powers that be actually want their citizens to remain dumb and uneducated.

      @A-TOP-11 2 роки тому

      @@zimvader25 man poor child. Well at here once you broke a bone they will fix it asap but bill the hell out of you of course. But sometimes here we do have to wait for some procedure. For example I went to the dentist last year to check if I can get my wisdom teeth extracted. I was in pain very bad. So they told me they have to wait if my insurance cover. 4 months later taking many tylenol and being in agony. I got a called saying they would cover the cost. So yeah I heard that the NHS has a problem for waiting to see a doctor for emergency . We kinda have that too here but sounds worst over in Europe. Hopefully in the future there will be some sort of solution to have better health care system all over the world.

      All true, but it wouldn't be the IRS collecting those taxes, it would be the local County Sheriff collecting for the property taxes levied by the County Assessor. IRS back taxes would be from federal income taxes.

    Okay taxes are not typically 27,000 a year. But if you fail to pay your taxes, they charge you penalties and interest, and the interest and penalties keep adding up over the entire decade. Imagine getting a credit card, and then maxing it out at 10 thousand dollars, then not making a payment for 10 years. Every single month they will add a $60 late fee, and the interest will be running the entire time at an APR usually around 22.9%. SO that 10k you charged after 10 years can be over 50 thousand with late fees and interest. The minimum payment per month would be $300. If you fail to make any payments, the interest alone will give you a nosebleed. You would owe well over 50 thousand dollars for only a 10 thousand dollar debt.

    We pay an average annual property tax of about 1.2% in the US, meaning you'd pay 5k annually on a 500k property. Since 1.2% is the average, there are obviously places with higher rates(up to about 2.2%), so there are many scenarios where someone could owe 500k in unpaid property taxes if they skipped for 10 years.

    Taxes in America are obnoxiously high but it’s not 270K per year. What Grandma did here is she didn’t pay her taxes for over a decade, so all that 270K is exclusive just taxes she didn’t pay.

    • @insertname193
      @insertname193 9 місяців тому

      Yeah the 270k is definitely not just property taxes, it would be multiple types over those ten years. Right now I pay $1000 a year and when I lived in California 3 years ago, it was $4000. My own grandma would’ve let that same thing happen if we didn’t take care of her taxes for her😂

    As a few other people are saying, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison sort of go hand-in-hand...they are like movie siblings in a way. EXACT same type of humor but a COMPLETELY different scenario and JUST AS FUNNY!!!! Adam Sandler's production company is even a combination of those two: Happy Madison Productions. Then I would say The Wedding Singer is his other universal "must-see" movie.

    So far I find that the funniest comment is Ellie saying incredulously, "$27,000 for taxes per year!" And this from someone that lives in Europe, which supposedly has very high tax rates. (Although as I understand it, Ellie and Michelle are from Eastern Europe, where the rates are much, much lower.)
    Unfortunately, that is just for INCOME taxes, as others have written about, there are a whole host of other taxes that the average citizen pays, as well.
    By today's tax rates, an income tax burden of $27,000 per year, implies an income of $137,412.50. The U.S. tax code is very complicated, however, and there is a whole host of deductions and exemptions that would mean that the income was much higher. And as someone else wrote, if taxes aren't paid when due, there are interest and penalties which are owed as well.
    My guess, however, is that this was for ESTATE taxes, which are monies owed when someone dies. (Hence the expression in the U.S., the only two guarantees in life are "death and taxes".) The movie was filmed in 1996, and they say that "ten years" worth of taxes are owed. So let's assume that the grandfather passed away in 1986. At that time the tax rate of estates over $500,000 was FIFTY-FIVE percent (55%). If the grandfather had an estate valued at $800,000, then the estate taxes owed would have been around $165,000 (($800,000 - $500,000) * 55%). The IRS charges interest and penalties on amounts that aren't paid in a timely matter, and even assuming a modest rate of 5% per year, then this would grown to roughly $270,000 over ten years.
    Now estate taxes are supposed to pass from one spouse to another, tax free, but if the two were not legally married, or if the assets in the estate were only in one person's name (i.e. the house), then this is something that could totally happen. And yes, the IRS does have the right to foreclose upon your home, if you don't pay your taxes. (But this usually doesn't happen, and instead they just place a lien against the house, and then get paid whenever the house is sold.)

    The taxes would also include a large fine for not paying taxes for 10 years. It's probably like 6-7k a year at this time. Probably 10k now.

    happy gilmore was one of the films that really made adam sandlers career
    depends on the house, depends on the area, depends on the state...lot of complications...it's all about where you live, which house and value of the area, house...how the state does things...bla bla bla.
    in golf u have to get the ball in the hole in as few hits as possible...but the hole in professional golf is a long distance away so the better u are at hitting the ball long distances (and getting it close to the hole) the better.
