As a new cat fishermen I really appreciate the tips. It's so nice that people that are experienced take the time to teach the inexperienced or the people who have been doing it wrong for many years. Just think of how many fish were lost from knots being tied wrong. I never thought of heat damage on the line until you mentioned it and showed what it looked like. Thanks Bud! You just taught an old fart new things!
By far the best demonstration of how to rig, been fishing 40+yrs & getting into cat fishing now. Thank you for great video instructions on Snelling a hook... will be using this come spring.. 😎.. you have a new subscriber here..
I just bought a bunch of Zara Spook Blanks and I'm going to try make my own Demon Dragons. I even thought about getting some shallow diving Rapala style crankbaits and rigging them like a Demon Dragon to see if i could gain some added action to the rig.
This is definitely a game changer for a new catfish/rough fisherman like myself. Is this similar to a Santee Cooper rig since the rattle floats? If so it's the best of both worlds! Thanks again for the demo!
Question about the direction of the float. Is it supposed to have the eyes pointing away from the hook? Because from seeing fish eat other fish it's head first so should not the hook he on the side of the head.
Will this work on the dead of winter or is this a spring thru fall thing just trying to figure out the best time for rattles my buddy and I fish side by side and I catch more and bigger fish not using the rattle thanks
Great video. Thank you. Just wondering about the weights. What kind of weights you use? Are they connected directly to the clip or do they have line attached to them? Thanks again!
If you have heat damage on that tag end. The knot still has heat damage. The heat will intensify until the Knot cinches. I'm assuming you wet the knots normally or forgot to mention.
Yes I do because it keeps the clip and sinker from rubbing the leader knot. With a normal swivel you don’t have a choice the clip is gonna rub one of them.
Backwoods Catfishing if i went to a tournament i would buy these too. By the way, have u noticed a difference between using these and using the peg floats u used before?
Awesome videos,so when you pull the tag end on the palomar knot to tighten, does the line that the tag end rubs against while getting tightend get heat damage also? Thanks!!
When did people start using these rattles? I haven't catfished in forever, but I would just take an egg sinker and an eagle claw leader with the hook and it has always worked for me. I saw these at my local mom and pop fishing store and got excited because I thought they were bass fishing spooks without hardware. Then I realized they were for catfishing by the tag
We used them anchor fishing on Santee Cooper and caught some very nice fish. I believe they make a lot of sound and vibration even with the natural movement of the boat in wind and boat traffic to get the attention of fish
If I use this and fish a lot of tight wood for flatheads, what would you recommend to not lose the demon dragon if we break off the hook when getting snagged?
I think it's kind of unavoidable when fishing the woody and rocky snags that a lot of us try to target and fish, honestly. I know exactly the kind of structure you're talking about because thats the same stuff I look for and spend my time targeting,.

Awesome video !!! Just one question.... are you buying the floats as a torpedo topwater plugz & taking the hooks off or buying them in bulk? If so where at ?? Again killer video brother..
I was always told that when using hooks with the offset eye(not inline with the shaft of the hook), that snell knots are the only style knot you're supposed to use with them since the snell knot works by actually getting tighter and pretty much acting like a hangmans noose on the shaft of the hook. A snell doesnt put stress on the actual eye of the hook, I've been told that using traditional style(non-snell) knots on a hook with an offset eye can stress the area so much that the eye will break off from the rest of the hook, as offset hooks arent meant to have the eyes stressed. Just repeating what I was told long ago by a well known guide from Truman Lake/Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri that specializes in drift fishing for blues. Until we talked about that I had never really even thought about it before, but once he said that it was like a lightbulb lit up above my head because it does make perfect sense if you think about it. Granted, it would probably take a large and very hard fighting fish in combination with relatively weak metallurgy and a possibly already stressed or poorly forged hook for it to happen but if there's a possibility of something breaking and coming undone while in a fight with a big fish then I try my best to come up with a different plan of attack to get rif of the weak link so to speak, and only tying snelled knots on hooks with offset eyes remedies that possibility of an extremely frustrating event happening like having your new personal best, or new state or world record cat(highly doubtful, LMAO) get off my line because of a lazy and/or improper knot. Just my $.02. Even though I see the question is over a year old and has already had 2 different people answer with their opinions so I thought it wouldnt hurt to throw mine in as well!, haha. Good luck and tight lines, fellas! 👍🦈👍
Backwoods Catfishing , I've used it as a kid growing up. Just regular spam cut into cubes on treble hooks. It acts like chicken liver in the sense that it will fly off the hook if you cast too aggressively.
Great video. Thank you for letting us in on your rig. Good luck this weekend and please consider subscribing and hitting the notification bell. Have a great day and happy fishing.
They tryin to bamboozle us, there is nothing proving that a spook will catch any more fish than standard cigar foat(sante cooper rig) we have to stop with the gimmicks
I love using chicken liver live bait cost more here in wichita then the liver so i go for that most of the time the biggest i pulled out was 10lb cat with liver so livers been good to me every time i hit the lake
Malcolm Roberts yes I do use either live bait or cut bait. But actually I’m going to be doing some testing with the natural shad demon dragons to see if I need bait. I’m going to attach a hook directly to it and see if I can catch flatheads.
I been using big game and ande leader for a while now but have heard alot about kast king being great, what are your feelings on how it holds up to some of the popular ones out the like those two? would love to know what your input is. this rigs been killing it for me!
@@BackwoodsCatfishing I looked through catch the fever couldnt find anything on their site for slime above 60lb, any advice to where to find it by chance?

Dennis Aitken not a problem that’s what we’re here for
That was one of the best described videos I've seen!!! I've been searching for tips and videos just like that step by step for months!!
I learned a lot here... haven't been much for catfishing myself but gonna give it a try again
By far the best video I have found on this rig.have been trying to find how you do the sinker setup on this rig and you showed it.thanks for the video
Gonna be trying this out soon as I can
Thanks good video trying this set up this weekend 👍🏾
Love the muddy river catfish demon dragon. Just got mine a few days ago and I’m going to rock em!!
Cat Daddy Fishin I’ll be trying them out on wateree

Jimmy Cardwell thank you and welcome to the channel I hope you learn a few things here that will help you along the way.
great video.....thank you for taking your time and going all the way through the process. I learned a couple of things from it.
Awesome chad I’m glad you took something away from it.
Awesome video brother!!! Great set up I use that same set up !!! Good luck in the tournament
Catfishbill 66 thanks man hopefully we will have some footage to roll.
Great video can't wait to try this rig out
You earned your sub bro, that was an excellent tutorial. Thanks!
I recently won one of those Demon Dragon, now I know how to rig it! Thanks!
Is just pretty much a top water lure. Torpedo
Whisker seeker has those rattles but with a leader and a hook on it which I just got but haven't gotten to use them yet
Thank you, that was very clear and informative
I just got one from a mystery tackle box can wait to try it
Thank you great tips. Nice job !!!
I never tried the extra little knot on the tag end of my snell knots but I'm definitely gunna start 😅
Not needed if you snell the correct way
Great channel,Good info for sure
Definitely a huge help thanks man!

Good instructional video!
Thank you sir and thank you for watching!
Thanks Buddie i appreciate info!!!
Id love to see a good video of you catching cat fish on this rig can do you have a few i can see? Thanks guys and tight lines
I just landed 2 tonight! Insta same and will send proof lol
Im just going to to paint up one of my blank jerk baits for the whole demon dragon deal. Blue gill pattern with cut blue gill. Gunna slay
Many thanks. Great lesson. I learned something really interesting.
Melvin Newcomb happy this helped!
Great video im for sure gonna try this out!
Let us know how it works for you. We’ve had great success with it
I will! Soon as i get some of the supplies you use i will try it out and let ya know!
Wouldnt feeding the line through the bottom eye on the demon dragon cause for an extra rub spot for the line to pull against when a fish is on?
Great info. Love the rig. Keep the videos coming
Matt Moore thank you there gonna be some interesting stuff coming soon
Great video. Any chance you could tell me where to get a hat hook like that. That's awesome
Thx for the info. Very informational
Ryan Harrod anytime glad you found it useful
Great video and great information
Thanks jo thank you for subbbing also!
for me, cutting up bluegill and throwing it out on a circle hook with 40lb line works like a charm
Perfect video thanks
Great video, thanks!,

If you put some sliva on the line around the knot before you sench it do it won't damage the line
Just Subscribed. Great video
Fish Wranglers thank you hope you enjoy the channel
When still, tube style floats point vertical submerged due to the anchoring sinker end. But I take it this is for drift fishing, yes?
Peter Simon Kim that’s primarily what they are used for but I’ve had success using them anchor fishing also
Does it not need a floater for cat fishing?
Great video. Thank you. Just wondering about the weights. What kind of weights you use? Are they connected directly to the clip or do they have line attached to them? Thanks again!
Hey where can u buy a Lil kit like that to make your own rigs or do u have to buy it all seperate
If you have heat damage on that tag end. The knot still has heat damage. The heat will intensify until the Knot cinches. I'm assuming you wet the knots normally or forgot to mention.
South Carolina 💯💯💯 my home land
Do you prefer a three way swivel like the one shown in the video or a what I would call a standard three way, and why?
Yes I do because it keeps the clip and sinker from rubbing the leader knot. With a normal swivel you don’t have a choice the clip is gonna rub one of them.
Can this be used I a lake?
I just made a vid about same rig. Cept i use leftover wine corks.
i_fish hey man whatever works you can’t knock.
Backwoods Catfishing if i went to a tournament i would buy these too. By the way, have u noticed a difference between using these and using the peg floats u used before?
What's the name of hooks? Thanks.
They are cat max 9/0 circles

Thanks guys maybe even some veterans can take something away from this also.
top notch video!
Thanks for watching Duane
I have seen this with cut bait have you used it with live bait.
Eric Bloomingdale yes I have and with really good success
Thanks I mainly use live bait might have to try this
Awesome videos,so when you pull the tag end on the palomar knot to tighten, does the line that the tag end rubs against while getting tightend get heat damage also? Thanks!!
As long as you pull the tag end you won’t get any line burn
Thank you

When anchor fishing In non moving still water. Do demon dragons make a difference?
We used them anchor fishing on Santee Cooper and caught some very nice fish. I believe they make a lot of sound and vibration even with the natural movement of the boat in wind and boat traffic to get the attention of fish
That video is uploaded as well if you want to watch it.
What bait do you use on the hook side? Will a treble hook work as well?
Can the rattle in the demon dragons have any effect while bank fishing or are they mainly used while dragging??
julian anthony that can have the same effect if your fishing in current.
How long was the leader from the hook to the three way swivel? It looks like about four feet.
JB 1950 that’s about right
Where do you get your demon dragon
Are you using this rig in strong river current?? If so are you anchored or drifting??
If I use this and fish a lot of tight wood for flatheads, what would you recommend to not lose the demon dragon if we break off the hook when getting snagged?
I think it's kind of unavoidable when fishing the woody and rocky snags that a lot of us try to target and fish, honestly. I know exactly the kind of structure you're talking about because thats the same stuff I look for and spend my time targeting,.

I don’t like anything that slides on my line

Does this type of snell work on hooks with bent back eyes?
Matt Potts I would assume so I’ve never used those. Nothing can’t hurt from a little testing though.
I was always told that when using hooks with the offset eye(not inline with the shaft of the hook), that snell knots are the only style knot you're supposed to use with them since the snell knot works by actually getting tighter and pretty much acting like a hangmans noose on the shaft of the hook. No sir that’s a new one. You may end up catching a couple fat guys like us on that!

Do you put bait on the hook or leave it as you did on the video?
what size of clips do you use Thanks

Great video. Thank you for letting us in on your rig. Good luck this weekend and please consider subscribing and hitting the notification bell. Have a great day and happy fishing.
Bait2Bend thank you I can do that!
Can this rig be used while bank fishing? Thanks
Scott Stafford absolutely!
Thanks for the info. That will be my next rigs.
Do u use demon dragon on bank fishing r trolling?
Awesome
How us this better than live? How many fish have you lost because your hook is so far back?
You put bait on the hook the demon dragon is only ment to suspend the bait/hook
Is the Spook being on there for jigging?
No only to hold the bait up and for the added vibration or the rattles
Great video thank you. I have one question, will sliding the demon dragon up and down cause friction to the line?
Ray Dawg you slack the line and there is no friction. If you just grab and pull it can.
Do you think this would be a good rig for bank fishing?
marek newman you bet used it many times from the bank
whats more effective Demon dragon or the rattle?
Nice rig but too expensive to use on my local rivers. Too many snags.
What are you using then?
They tryin to bamboozle us, there is nothing proving that a spook will catch any more fish than standard cigar foat(sante cooper rig) we have to stop with the gimmicks
Is that your bait as well or do u put bait on cuz i use livers chicken liver but i like learning new things too and i never seen that be4
Malcolm Roberts I'm pretty sure he puts a chunk of cut bait on the hook lol. Or something alive
See i was thinkin that too but i thought i ask
I love using chicken liver live bait cost more here in wichita then the liver so i go for that most of the time the biggest i pulled out was 10lb cat with liver so livers been good to me every time i hit the lake

How did ur test come out
Is this setup good for river fishing?
Yes I primarily fish rivers
Awesome! But those three way swivels make me nervous. Every had one separate or break off?
Look into Thundernist Lure Company T-Turn 3 way swivels, solid as ever. That's what I use.
nice video
Whats the rod/reel setup??
Burn'em Outdoors that’s a big cat fever heavy action rod paired with a okuma classic 450 with 40lb slime line.

I swapped to slimeline 100lb leaders back around September because I lost some monsters on the kastking. No issues since.
@@BackwoodsCatfishing I looked through catch the fever couldnt find anything on their site for slime above 60lb, any advice to where to find it by chance?
It will be ready for the market in March. That’s when they are releasing it. In the mean time you can run kast king just keep an eye on the line.
Why don't you show you can use a regular snap on Bobber
Awesome rig! Is it used for just moving water/current or can it be used effectively in slack water?
