I seriously followed this exactly and just added melafix (melaleuca oil) . I cannot thank you enough… my son was crying and crying because his tetra got late late stage dropsy. We thought we were going to lose him overnight as he was so distended he couldn’t even swim… we are now on day five And he is swimming eating and 1/4 of his size he was five days ago!! It’s working !!! He is almost back to normal size. Thank you so so much ! You are a blessing for sharing. ❤️
Did you only put salt and melafix or did you add melafix whit the other api medication. ? Because we don’t have this api medication in Quebec only melafix
There are no words that can sufficiently say how thankful I am to you for your expertise and for making this video. I followed your every step to save my shubunkin, Marvin, from his terrible dropsy, and it worked!! I’ve had him for 5 years and this is the first time he’s ever been sick. I’ve become so attached to him that my heart would break into pieces if I had lost him. He’s back to his old happy self. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I’ve never cured dropsy and I’ve had to deal with it a lot. I’ve even took a fish to the vet and never cured it but I’ll try this next time. I’ve been trying everyone’s advice.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU so so much for this video!!! I was able to use this to save my 6 year old Shubunkin goldfish from early to mid stage dropsy. Used kanaplex and general cure in a quarantine tank every other day with 1/2 tsp per gallon Epsom, 81F with extra air, plus twice a day 1 tablespoon per gallon epsom baths in a separate tank, upping the time on these baths to 40 minutes to a hour since he was not stressed by it. Full water changes every 2 days. Showed improvement by day 4&5, and continued for treatment for 10 days. He's now happy and back in his 75 gallon with his friends!
hello! goldfish owner here dealing with the same thing. i have my oranda in a 10 gallon tub (her hospital tank) with a sponge filter and some rocks i got from the main tank. and i'd like to ask for advice on water changes - in the magna salt (a brand of epsom salt) packaging, it says only to do a water change after 3 days IF the fish shows improvement. i've been doing 5 minute epsom salt baths with her once a day since i noticed the pineconing, too, but i hadnt really noticed any improvement with her bloating, so i opted for the in-tank epsom salt dosage luke uses here.. i'd really appreciate if you could share some tips because im really worried for my fish and there's not a lot of info online ;_;
As I said above, I did 1/2 tsp per gallon epsom in the hospital tank (with meds! Very important to use antibacterial and antiparasitic meds, as the dropsy is just a symptom, not the cause of the illness, it's like taking a decongestant when you have a cold, doesn't treat it but might make you feel less terrible so you have more time to rest and get over it) And I had a separate bath tank with 1tablespoon per gallon epsom and I did twice a day baths for up to one hour! Moving the fish can stress it, so less baths and longer time is better. Water was 100% changed in both tanks every two days with coresponding retreatment of the new water with the meds and Epsom. Also the keeping it warmed, above 80f is supposed to slow down aeromonas bacterial growth, which can often be the cause or potential secondary infection as the fish becomes more immune compromised.
@@TheRocketpony22 @Carolyn Sturge omg thank you for responding ;~; i should set up a bath tank too, i can tell the handling from salt baths stresses her out a bit.. i'll get kanaplex and an antiparasitic asap and make sure to stay on top of my water changes.. i hope your fish are always well from now on 💖
I think my girl has dropsy. I can't lose her. She's my study buddy and my best friend. She watches me while I study at my computer, at the corner of the tank. I've had her for almost two years. I'm going to follow this and hope it works.
I cured my red cap oranda from dropsy She's excellent now, this was 6 months ago Everybody told me to kill her I gave epsom salt baths, aquarium salt in tank and it worked
You are cheerful aren't you?! If my goldfish dies because I am suffering as she or he is ill, and I am really effing upset 9 years being always with Cecile. I will not be asking you for sympathy@@fleegreen980
At the time of the video it looked like he was still in the hospital tank. Is he still alive? How long did he live after this? Any additional treatments?
I was at a fish store yesterday and I could swear that one of the ranchu had dropsy and the worker kept telling me that’s just the way they swim. She was going to pull out her phone to google it to show me and I told her I didn’t need google. I feel so bad I didn’t buy him. I should have 😢
Don’t feel bad. If you had bought that poor fish, you’re just supporting that store’s poor treatment of fish, and encouraging themto treat more like that. Snake Discovery has a whole video about what you could do instead, and while they focus mainly on reptiles, they bring up some good points that can apply to fish and other species too.
So did you use SAFE in between cycles or put safe in as soon as you put in hospital tank, then again after adding furan, then again after adding general cure? Just trying to gage at which points to use the SAFE as I know it’s super concentrated and can be fatal if not used precisely.
Hi Luke, do you think this will work? I have a young comet goldfish and can I give her a salt bath for five minutes in a tbsp of epsom salt, per us gallon? For a week everyday and then once she’s done her bath I’ll put her back into the normal tank, since I Don have a hospital one. I’ve also tried using a bit of aquarium salt.
I know this is completely unrelated, but I have a Ranchu (Pumpkin) and a Panda telescope (Sakura) goldies in a 25 gallon tank and I feed peas, cucumber, and Gold Japan sinking pellets and at the moment I'm having a lotttt of issues with oil slicks ....I've tried feeding less, cleaning the gravel more and adding more water agitation but nothing has changed, I've been keeping goldfish many years...this doesn't make much sense to me. Any advice? 🙃✌🏽 (Also, I love your channel, I'll be watching more, I used to watch Solid Gold but she left UA-cam 😢😂)
Solid Gold is still on UA-cam - but her channel is just Jennifer Lynx now and she has left the goldfish keeping hobby. She even has gone as far as calling breeders of fancies unethical and denouncing the entire hobby. She couldn't keep Discus, Bettas, or any other fish alive either. Frankly I watched her make rookie errors 10+ years into the hobby so a lot of the failure she had with her fish was due to that - but if you want to watch her... she is still around. Just no longer keeps fish.
I have Furan 2, General Cure, and Kanaplex. Right now I’m using Furan 2 and Kanaplex together to treat dropsy in my goldfish. But I’m not seeing results. Should I swap one out for General Cure?
It's crazy most other information online says 1/8 tsp epsom per FIVE gallons. I'm desperate to save a fish I've been fighting to cure for weeks now I believe she's nearing the end. So I guess here we so. 1/2 tsp per gallon it is
I am confused, Furan 2 cycle is one packet per 10 gallon, add one packet per 10 gallon, after 24 hours another after 24 hours to change the water, so this is one cycle ?
How often do you add the epsom salts again? Every day every second day? In desperate need of helping my very sick goldfish and have just noticed the scales starting to pinecone
epsom salt doesnt evaporate so the only way to remove it is to take it out. when you do a water change, add enough salt to replenish what you lost. ex: you changed out 10 gallons of water. say you usually add 1/2 teaspoons of salt for every gallon of water which makes a total of 5 teaspoons
HELP PLEASE WHAT SHOULD I DO? I have a few questions. My fish has fin rot and he started pineconing. I started doing the treatment that you recommended in the video, but you never said how many times were supposed to dose the tank with Epsom salt. Every time we clean out the tank for partial change are we supposed to dose it with Epsom salt again? Also it’s a little bit unclear to me when we’re supposed to start the general cure. Do we start it while we’re giving him the Finn and body cure or after he starts looking better? My last question is should I treat him with Melafix while I’m treating him with the general cure and fin and body cure or should I not treat him with that while I’m treating him for the other stuff?
hi, we suspect we have a dropsy outbreak in our pond, we thiunk its bacterial or parastitic cause one had it, we quarantined it but died an hour later, now another has a somewhat spikey scales, we dont know which store to check for epsom salt, antibiotics etc. we dont have a heater or filtrator either. we quarantined the sickest fish, how long does it take for a fish to die from dropsy cause it might take a couple days to get right equipment, do you think we can save them? also is it transmittable to humans?
I am using this video to (Hopefully) treat & cure my guppy. She has dropsy on only one side of her body though. idk what could cause this? One side is more swollen, scales are more raised, and I can see irritated organs through her skin that are more red on this affected side. Any insight in the comment section?
Usually people use epsom salt for dropsy, and not aquarium salt. They are different, and epsom salt helps with things like swelling/fluid retention and constipation. He said one teaspoon per gallon for the normal aquarium water, and one tablespoon per gallon for the baths.
How's he going now? If hes still alive please tell me what you did to cure him I have A goldfish that's scales are kind of lifted up but I think it's because of the strong smell of melafix since he recently had fin rot
