GigabitEthernet1: Device management interface: Map it to the out-of-band management network. This is the equivalent of the service port on the physical appliance. GigabitEthernet2: Wireless management interface: Map it to the network to reach APs and services. Usually this interface is a trunk to carry multiple VLANs. GigabitEthernet3: High Availability interface: Map it to a separate network for peer-to-peer communication for HA SSO. This is the equivalent of the RP port. This port is not needed if HA SSO is not going to be configured. www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/catalyst-9800-cl-wireless-controller-cloud/nb-06-cat9800-cl-wirel-cloud-dep-guide-cte-en.html
Please follow the latest documentation link given in the last comment. I made my setup matching with my EXI setup and that may not be the right one for you, please ignore my setup and follow the instructions from the Cisco document.
Hi sir, I have 9800 WLC with active and standby mode and HA is failover without any issues but when I do the management failover to remove the active management cable then Ap is loosing their contact with WLC. It means management failover is not happening but it is enabled during the HA configuration
That may be due to some other issue on the HA build, please refer to the new HA deployment guide and check the physical connectivity. Looks like the gateway communication is lost during the interface switching. www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/17-3/deployment-guide/c9800-ha-sso-deployment-guide-rel-17-3.pdf
It is a amazing instruction , I broadcast your Chanel with my friends . I have a Q: From Core side what is configuration and How APs will join controller ? Is there option43 like old controller ? Thanks a lot :)
Cisco APs are still using CAPWAP protocol and no change in discovery process. You can use all options in CAPWAP Discovery process available in AireOS with eWLC/C9800/IOS-XE controller too.
I am struggling in getting HA up in different DCs, I just noticed you mentioned We need to accept promiscious mode, Mac changes and Forged Transmist, but as per cisco Mac Changes are not required to be Accept, Can you please confirm its importance?
Based on the code there are different approaches to do the HA build, please refer to the HA deployment guide for more info. www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/17-3/deployment-guide/c9800-ha-sso-deployment-guide-rel-17-3.pdf
Hope this link coveres most of the day zero configuration methods. This wizard is not introduced from the first release for c9800, if you are missing it please try with new release.
Our ESX interfaces don’t support SR-IOV - question is whether there’s any benefit using the high throughput option without SR-IOV support or should we revert to low throughput configuration ?
Always follow the c9800-CL deployment guide. Any deviation can lead in to a situation that you will not get proper support when you face any trouble in operations. www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/catalyst-9800-cl-wireless-controller-cloud/nb-06-cat9800-cl-wirel-cloud-dep-guide-cte-en.html
Please follow the CAPWAP discovery process, there are some videos in my channel for CAPWAP discovery process explains most of the discovery options. For ap joining we need min below items 1. We should have a WLC with valid licence, country, etc 2. AP should recive the info about the WLC mainly IP, you can use DHCP option 43, dns, etc.. 3. Layer 3 communication between WLC and AP
New generation c9800 WLCs are L3 capable, it's not like our legacy WLCs that works on L2 only. It can even support OSPF routing and participate in Areas. There is another video that talks about the routing configurations in GUI comparison.
Great information as always
Nice informative video brother
at 7:05 in show vlan why dont we see G2 interface connected with Vlan111. As Vlan111 is bound to G2, then it must show G2 interface

The Gig2 has to be trunk interface in VMWare does it not? From your configuration in Cisco console, you have configured it as a switchport mode trunk.
Consider it as a switch interface and plan the other side accordingly based on your VMware configuration
Hi bro … Iam not able join my 1815 ap to 9800 cl wlc but seen your video and I will try to install certificate and will try
