- New from WLtoys, the 124012 cheap 4x4 RC truck. This is faster than the WLtoys 12428, but maybe not any more stable at speed lol. It also comes with a 1500mah Lipo! Fully proportional

Fully tested, and it's fast, good fun and worth the money! I got 38km/h when I tested it on a road, which is faster than the WLtoys 12428. Not quite the 60km/h it says on the box, but I've come to accept that these budget RC trucks are never as fast as they say!
😁 Man that thing looks weird! Great showcase of it.
Yeah...looks like it's been squashed during manufacturing 😂
Looks like a good buy for the money - good honest review, Phil! Looks a little too uncontrollable for my liking, but I'm sure some of that can be sorted with a few minor tweaks! Thumbs up mate! :))
Cheers Mark, not to easy to drive, good fun like most fast ish RC's, but I think you'd spend alot of time putting it back on all 4 wheels!
yup, she's top heavy, rolls over if you look at it funny.
@@modelnutty6503 Haha! I know what you mean - my Monster Beetle is exactly the same - you only have to show it a tight turn and it goes turtle! :D
Hahaha wondered what the heck it was in the thumbnail 😂 that things pretty cool buddy surprised me that's for sure 👌🤘👍 nice video and review fella 👌👍🍻
I put the photo of the rear as it's much nicer looking than the front haha
Looks like a blast to drive. I personally love WLToys build quality. Great entry level hobby grade IMHO and tons of parts available online.
Not a bad lil car at all👌🏽awesome jumps great video👍🏽
Thanks 👍
I like it the wrecks are spectacular fun watching👍👍😁😁💣
I like to keep them in...shows how it actually handles... and yes, some a funny
Great job buddy. Looks pretty cool! Thanks for sharing!
Am liking that mate , fantastic unboxing and fantastic review, great running test 👍😊👍
Cheer Tony :)
I'd take those doofy big spare off ASAP. Make it looks more sleek.
Very nice review big thumbs up my friend XD
Cheers dude 👍
I personally love the shape and side tires. If it was mine I would take extra care of it as I'm sure later we'll have spare parts available like some oil-filled shocks.
Power run with the little guy nice run most of the grass quite swiftly
I don't like the spare wheels on the sides. It looks silly I think. But the car itself seems to be build good and drives just fine. Good review
Cheers dude. I have a nice hard body that fits the chassis....so i'll maybe get that on it and loose the spare wheels. 🤘
Nice video Tom! Where can I get some good oil-filled shocks for mine? Good to know the top speed is 40 KPH, I was suspecting something as much. :)
Thanks dude.... Not sure...I'd have to measure them
Tomley please find my long comment "how to" and do a video of it.
it'll be really helpful for a lot of people with WLtoys units.
It looks a bit funky but great at the same time!
Maybe some hub extensions would help stabilize it? Widen it out a bit.
Yes, slightly wider track and oil shocks
Tomley please find my long comment, it'd make a good video (I just don't do videos at all) to show others the "how to" that I'd typed out (again lol).
Not a fan of the spare tyres...pretty quick tho👍
Am I the only one that gets this vehicle? It is reminiscent of the Daimler Ferret military vehicle and is based on a real vehicle albeit one with a longer wheelbase. Toyo tires has one that is insane. A Paris-Dakar type long range buggy. I like the geometry. The spare wheels need to be free turning and the price seems a bit high but the body is cool and licensed. Some more suspension adjustability would be nice but I still want one.
loved the run i think that there should be a guard under the spare tires to stop them from dragging on the ground giving friction
Yes, I agree - I´ve seen another review of this car in which it kept getting stuck - high-centred - on its spare tyres. I think I´d just take them off.
Yeah, shame the body has the cut outs....I actually gave it another GPS run without the spare wheels....still 38km/h as well.
@@TomleyRC It´s interesting that the top speed wasn´t increased by the removal of the spare wheels. Perhaps that suggests that in this case the big old 540´s top speed´s limited more by RPM than by the load it´s under.
Yeah, you can tell by how it ploughs through the grass that it has a lot of power....so will be the RPM/Gearing
I love the shot beginning @ 11:49, in which the vehicle turns to face the camera for a moment, then back into line with its direction of travel, all really smoothly, without missing a beat.
Could you be one of UA-cam´s champion driver/camera operators?
haha...just a lucky shot 😜
🤔... for now, and from what I saw, I think it's a very well weight balanced rig... but man, why don't they put some oil filled shocks ?... with 6 bucks more that car performance would increase a lot 🙄
Nice video man; "upgrade" the suspension and show us 😉
Yeah...oil shocks should be a standard feature by now!.....these guys have been making RC's long enough to know!
Tomley, that's exactly what I meant 🤨
don't mean to sound horrible but i wouldn't buy one ...
Neither would I.....but is ok for some people, and cheaper than most of the Argos Toy grade rubbish :)
@@TomleyRC i havent bashed in a long time , i like being on a race track too much lol
Yes another video:)
Does it have proportional steering? I couldn't tell from the demo, Phil. Sorry.
Yeah..and it's really quick as well! Maybe to quick...hence all the rolling over!
That’s a sick car
First thing I'd do is to remove the spare tyres. I see little advantage over the 12428 but I'm sure it will appeal to others
barely got a glimpse.... does look like the shocks do have the (blue) threaded aluminum cups at the bottoms of the shock bodies. put 2 round servo grommets on a small screwdriver shaft, carefully hobby knife slice the smaller center tube sections out, you now have 4 shock seals to install, flat side goes up, and just finger snug on those cups. install them a little wet of course, go ahead and oil fill those shocks. you'll know when you remove them and get a look inside, they likely DO have enough internal damping disc for oil to do its thing. for 12428 and clones, 10-40w in the rears, 80wt gear oil up front for the shorter shocks having much stronger springs and shorter travel distance. typical round neoprene/rubber servo grommets make perfect seals, the inner wall is flat/smooth, the aluminum cup has a round dimple inside around the shock shaft exit hole that compresses the button shape of the servo grommet half perfectly for a good seal. cost about zero, takes a few minutes each. if they're like the others they're made for oil filling, but they didn't bother with putting the seals in them. check it out and give a holler if it works (aka new short video!).
Not bad for me. That sure little fast 23MPH, prob due the scale size.
What a weird place to put a spare tire. Cool video though
Thanks
I was going to say great video no music but
Well.....I had so much footage, I thought a little bit the end wouldn't hurt 😵
0:42 Annnnnnd I'm disapointed ^^' Cool review
Yeah....not as cool as the real thing!
It looks very cute but is a monster~!!^^😁😁
cool Truck
Those tires might be good spares for the A979🤔
very nice man❤👍
Thank you
great video metal diffs?
I think so yes.
👍👍
Wow. Didn’t realize those were spare tires
Does the plastic the the rc is made out of feel brittle? and would it be possible to remove the 540? I could see myself putting a holmes hobbies snubnose revolver motor in it lol.
Plastic feels pretty good. The motors do come out and are upgradeable 👍
@@TomleyRC Awesome 👍
I knew it I had one of these Tey other day but I sold it
I got 39 kph on 12428 out of the box with stock 7.4v li-ion. 50kph on stock electronics with 3s lipo (careful not to burn the esc tho). I think that model has lower gear ratio, heavier, and less aerodynamic.
Interesting, I got 35km/h out of mine. Your's must have been down hill...haha. I stuck a brushless in mine a few weeks after getting it. Does 70km/h now off road (3s)
Yea i saw your vid with 70kph. That inspired me to upgrade to brushless. I havent tested my new top speed tho. Mine was not downhill. It was all done on a flat asphalt stretch :)
Cool..I was joking about down hill lol... maybe I needed to give it a longer stretch to run?
Dont do it offroad :p
35km/h was on road :)
As you mentioned oil shock will make the difference! Can you add oil to them? You might of mentioned it but the misses was talking throughout the whole thing! 😒
haha...deciding to have a chat during UA-cam Time!...How Very Dare You! Not sure about putting oil in them....you can modify them and make some seals.
Tomley RC Garage ahh mate I wasn’t chatting I was trying to watch the TV! It’s even worse when she drinks can talk for fucken Wales I tell ya! Defo should mod them if you can. 💪🏼🔥
I meant her chatting during UA-cam time....my experience of the Welsh is they can talk...LOTS! haha
Tomley RC Garage 😂😂
The 2-in-1 electronic are garbage never been a fan of it. The shocks are a little too bouncy if there oil filled then change the oil to a lower weight. I am wondering if the tires placement is affecting the shocks from fully absorbing the impact when you hit a jump?.
Yeah....2 in 1 are pretty bad, these have a tendency to go up in smoke as well. Suspension is just friction, wheels do catch quite a bit when on rough ground.
yup, WLtoys has a bad tendency trying to impress with "oooh FAST".
the poor little ESC's thermal shutdown, or they burn up, or both! best thing you can do for them right away is a 3-4 tooth smaller pinion gear, if not 5-7 teeth smaller. loses some top speed but motor and ESC won't heat up as badly, gives quicker burst acceleration too.
@@modelnutty6503 had that happen on my son's rally car. One of them 2-in1 went up in smoke but it was all good change the Electronics drop a min fan it's been rolling good now
I've never seen this one before, its one weird looking rig 🤣
Thats not where u keep a spare tire lol
Like the out of box performance but those spare wheels juzt look awkward, uneeded weight
Yeah....bit strange to be honest! lol....
But i like the punch it has
Aww man, this looks like it couldve been a bit better, the chassis should be a tiny bit wider and i think the spare wheels shouldnt be on there, and it is unstable!
Wider and a bit longer like the real truck, shame...but still good fun
Mr t wat u usin to film this vid and has it got some sort of gimbal for stabilization on it
GoPro Hero 7 Black....has 'HyperSmooth'....no gimbal
@@TomleyRC they do a great job n i bet theyre not so cheap are they
£379... $400+?
@@TomleyRC well it does a great job
Ok Ok cool cool but what about the Waterproof?????
No...not waterproof
'
better take off a pair of spare tires on the side and let lighter weight
yup, I thought it was just funky looking too.
I really like what they were going for, but those enormous tires ruin the effect. It looks more like a 6-wheeler with a broken middle axle.
Yes...a bit strange!
👍🏻
Look weird but so fast
I think this rc much better at track or desert..imposible to get speed at 60 because it's not stable
Yes, not stable enough for that speed
Not much impress. wltoys 12428 do 42km on everything stock with 2s lipo 30c 1500mah.
I can only compare to my own experience, and the speed run I made with my completely 'Stock' 12428 was 31 km/h 👍
@@TomleyRC ua-cam.com/video/-RqpHP_n_wg/v-deo.html
Thats a decent Speed! Maybe mine was low on power for some reason?
@@TomleyRC depends on motor turns or battery type (lion or lipo c rating probably low)
@@gamingprotocol8871 I meant why my 12428 was slow...10km/h slower than the one in the video!
Hate them spare tires
A bit strange sat there aren't they!
Buy wltoy 12428 can be adventures car
I have that as well, and about 7 or 8 videos of it on this channel. 👍
I'd like to see this rig run without the friggin stupid spair tires,on it......💺💻🏁👍💪😉💲
I did try it...no faster, but better all the same. Shame the body has big cut outs!
You have to think like a Chinese person and it will do 60kph
Tell your self it does do 60 kph believe in it and it will do 60😝
Yes....60...60...60.....60...60...60 😂😂😂
Tomley RC Garage
Good job it’s not 88kph it might disappear into the future 👍
@@mark-1rc502 that´s MPH
almost first
That is quite possibly the stupidest looking rc car I've ever seen .
Well...Tyco have made some funny ones on the past....but yes, it certainly has a unique look!

WTF is that????
😂It's certainly a looker 😂
imagine a uglyst rc car award existed😂
