I love the fact that I’m not the only one who can’t leave a small area open, I will do the same, find the smallest bead and lay it sideways. I personally say to myself, “you are your worst critic”, Also, after I’m done with the project, I will use rubber cement to tack onto my buckskin, it’s so much easier to work with and won’t bend your needles, if you happen to get it close to the edge. Hello, I'm watching you work with great interest. Where you speak of stacking and clean lines, I realized that beads are like tiny mosaic pieces because you can follow the lines how the pieces were aligned in ancient Roman mosaics too!

The paper I used to bead on was just something I had handy. It parchment paper, I used it because I could trace on it. I've used graph paper, regular paper before. I don't draw directly on the felt because it seems to leave larger stains and sometime you can see the pen marks through the beadwork. Sometimes I even color the paper to match the beads.
I couldn't even think of the name of the paper we used in elementary School.. that paper you covered over leaves and colored over with crayons... tracing paper right?

do you have any tips on threading tiny bead needles? I like traditional sinew because you can separate off tiny thin pieces and it goes right into the needle but of course it is not practical the nymo is easier and more affordable/available... real sinew is pricey for me to order online..sorry for so many comments ...I hope you don't mind answering my questions?

Hi Mona, Thank you for sharing your tutorials with us. I have always wanted to do beadwork but I never had any family to show me how. Now with UA-cam I am able to learn. My problem is the design work, I want to be respectful of designs. I know it's rude to use somebody's or some tribal design that is not public. I love these designs and would love to make them myself. I know that there is contemporary designs now that are not tribal. So my question is, how to design traditional pieces without being disrespectful? I am also curious to know how you finished the back of the braid holder? Do you use leather to tie it on? Can you make a tutorial about that? With help from people like you I may finally become a beader, Thank You!
Patricia Cheney Your welcome. I used leather for the backing and then used a Barrett blank I got from hobby lobby. After I added leather backing and finished the edging, I glued the Barrett blank down on top of leather then sewed it down going through the beadwork but being careful to keep stitches between rows of beads. It hold up pretty good. As for the designs it's good you are being respectful and there are many designs that can be used. Pintrest is a good resource for designs. And really anything you want to bead, the sky's the limit. Happy beading.
Hey Mona, thank you so much for your tutorials. My grandmother taught me beadwork growing up, and she passed 13 years ago. I let go of this craft for a long time and didn't yet master my dexterity and the ability to do applique work, edging or finishing my pieces on leather. Your videos are so helpful, along with your commentary and your way of putting things... It really helps me learn in an environment that's soothing and nurturing much like the beading sessions I had with my grandmother. I do have a question.. When outlining the initial image, how exactly do you keep the thread from tangling and getting criss-crossed in the back? I am trying my hand at applique and find it hard to follow the outline without the back of the piece looking all wonky and tangled. Do you just skip to the nearest line? Or are there times where you might backtrace over previous lines to prevent it from getting too crazy? I don't know how else to word it.
This has been one of the best videos, if not the best in showing all the elements of two needle beading. I think the pace, the language and the clear video/angle has really helped with the content you share. Im curious tho. With this style, on a larger piece, say one you will stitch onto a purse or something is too large to hold in your hand like the example. How do you get the right grasp that allows you to get good tension of the beads and thread? Ive seen some people use hoops or other frames that help stabilize the perimeter but it doesnt work if the whole piece if beaded. Like, how would you use this method when doing large areas for regalia and such? How would you stabilize or weight the piece down when your (lead thread) hand cant read the beads?

I am able to use them but I’m wondering why mine are always C-shaped and in all of the beading videos I watch online, their needles are straight...yours included. I am using #11 and/or #12 beading needles. Do yours become bent? Aura Wright Thank you for watching😍🌸🌹 I'm wondering if your gripping your needle to hard. Maybe lessen the pressure when your tacking? My needles do get bent eventually, and especially when I'm going through a thicker material. I go to the extent of making sure there is no Oil on my fingers, no lotion also. And then rub my beading fingers on my beeswax to get them kinda tack and will grip the needle without as much pressure. I hope this helps. And yes I'm super excited to make another video. 😁 Happy beading 🙌🙌
Oh! We have lots of moccs, we would love to bead them. Our favorite store is closed for good bc of Covid19, and we were so sad. We will find the equipment and supplies and get beading!
We are in Las Vegas now bc of work in 09, we had to come here. It's strange to be in a big city, and not find what you need. I guess we can go to Moapa Valley and they can help use find the things that we need to start!

Also, I have seen a method where you come through the beads to tack down. Is that going to make my beading more uniform? I noticed when I use this method in your video I am noticing a few gaps between beads and you can see the tacking thread slightly. I may be using the wrong thread. I am using .20 Fireline which I use for bead weaving hoping it would be suitable. 😋 Thanks for all your tips. Your videos are awesome.

I use graph, most of the time i use wax paper, cuz u can trace or draw your design and use my own thought in how it should go.

I usually pinch the thread in between my fingers and the very tip is out makes threading easier

You have to place on a table and stitch from the top..Jamie Okuma has good videos showing that way

I usually color the paper underneath. Sometimes if I'm using really dark beads I'll use colored nymo thread
