I know u guys have not watched any indian movie but here i really want u guys from my heart to watchalong a movie called RRR its truly beloving movie now time everywhere an amzing ride i know u guys will love it🙌
Hi, the main reason was at the time too adult and was a backlash even on a newshow with a child complaining that prompted MacDonalds to pull out of tie ins and toy companies that's why change in direction to be more kid friendly and sell merchandise. Thanks
Michelle Pfeiffer should have been nominated for best actress. She is the most iconic Catwoman ever. This is a wild movie. Not everyone liked it, as many felt it was too dark. But no one would ever forget it. It's really good. Outstanding music too.
Agree with this. Out of all the actresses to portray the character, she easily knocked it out of the park.
Catwoman: Meow.
🔥🔥🔥💥💥🔥🔥🔥
🤣🤣👏👏
@@onemoreminute0543she was definitely the “yummiest” catwoman of them all.😍🥰
Bruce and Selina not wearing masks at the dance is symbolic. They both consider their other persona to be their true self so by showing up as just Bruce and Selina they are in a sense wearing masks.
I was thinking the same thing, glad someone else picked up on it
Deep
" we all wear masks, Mr Ipkiss"
@@MrBreezeLI516 No, he's in the next movie.
Huh, no lie, I never thought of that. That actually makes alot of sense👍🏽
Michelle Pfeiffer has the most iconic one word dialog in movie history " Meow". 🙂 Also Michelle Pfeiffer did the whip jewelry store scene in 1 take with the bull whip. 🙂
Yes. She. Does. ❤❤❤
I absolutely love the scene where they repeat the mistletoe lines and realize who the other is. Beautifully done
"Does this mean we have to start fighting?" My favorite scene in the movie.
Such an underappreciated Batman film. Really good!
@@nsasupporter7557 ok
@@nsasupporter7557 You don't know good movies at all
It's really good as a super dark cartoon film, not to be taken seriously. But, if you want to consider it 'good' as far as films go, no. Way too goofy.
@@TerribleEnglish It's a comic book movie. Comic book movies are supposed to be camp and goofy to a degree.
@@carlesmacuaid I wouldn't call the Dark Knight camp or goofy.
I worked on this film as a Gotham city resident and also was a double for one of the clowns in the fight with Batman. The Gotham city set was built on one of the biggest stages in the world, Stage 16 at Warner Brothers. They had huge a.c. machines that kept ice cold in the stage for the snow not to melt. It was very fun to work on. Amazing sets.
Holy crap! I am currently making a review of one of Tim's more recent works, Wednesday. This film is literally one of my favorites of his, so it would be interesting if I were able to do a mini-interview with someone who worked with him, even if a short while. Every little bit helps, and I want to make that known on my channel if you are in any way interested.
Fantastic. That is good info to know.
How was seeing Keaton in the Batsuit?
@@Spartan10152 Very cool. Michelle & Danny DeVito's costumes were also cool. The Batmobile and all the sets were amazing. Great time working on it.
A neat coincidence a year later was on "The Ben Stiller Show" that I worked on. There was a comedy sketch with Adam West that I worked on.
When we did the clown fight scenes on the Gotham streets the original Batmobile was brought to the Warner backlot were we filmed for some kind of photo shoot with the new Batmobile.
@@richardyett3985 I would have died working on a Batman set, I've been a fan of Batman since I was 1(I'm 21 rn) and completely geeked out
The chemistry between Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Keaton is hot-hot-hot. This is still my favourite Batman movie.
📌Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer's acting is so perfect for this movie. It seemed like a theater play type of acting and it really fit the Tim Burton style. Those monologues by Peguin are just classics, and the way Tim Burton shot it makes it even more iconic.
This Catwoman was amazing, her house renovation was complete opposite of her original which was great.
1:05:21
On the contrary, the studio wanted less of the “dark” Tim Burton tone. Apparently some people thought it went too far and the studio told Tim to reel it in for the third one which subsequently led to his (and Keaton’s) departure. This is why we have… (shudders) “Batman & Robin”.
And Batman Forever before that. Which was... "eh". Could've been a lot better.
Haha your avatar 🤣 and yes lots of people thought it was a kid’s film before they watched it.
Awesome movie. Batman and Batman Returns are still my favorites.
One of the filmmakers said in interviews that when he saw a screening of the film with an audience, afterwards, adults looked like they'd been punched in the stomach, and kids were crying. He said that to this day, he's kinda proud of that.:)
Kind of strange. Never really understood why the reaction to Returns was so much more extreme than its predecessor. Darker in tone? Bittersweet? Sure. But was it really that much more scary or disturbing? Joker murders people right and left in the original, and the twist in the last few seconds of this one made it end on a pretty cool note.
@@Don-ol8ze Penguin's horrific look and cringe worthy horndog personality probably had something to do with it. Plus the green goo leaking from his mouth. This was way darker. Not as joyous as the first one as crazy as that may sound
Getting the tone mixed up is a big mistake and causes flops: nothing to be proud of! Returns is too dark for kids and too silly for adults. Epic fail.
@@TerribleEnglish thank you. I don't get this resurgence of everyone saying Returns is better than 89 like it's a general concensus. Batman Returns and Batman and Robin are respectively the results of taking previous successes too far
@@avace917 Exactly. I think the fact that Returns was a big money failure makes people appreciate it as an 'underappreciated cult classic' or something.
Personally, I think the studio people misunderstand the problem; they thought Returns was too dark, but actually people liked the dark aspect. It was the overly silly goofiness and over the top Tim Burton-ness that ruins it as a proper movie for me.
Batman Returns is my favorite Batman movie of all time and It's Tim Burton's finest movie and the best Batman movie of the 90's.
Best Batman movie of ALL TIME, yes, I said it! 🙌🏻
They wanted to do a third one with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton, but due to the poor sales of action figures because of Moral Guardians complaining about the dark tone of the movie they wanted the third one to be much lighter and colorful. Help to sell the action figures. Tim Burton felt that didn’t lend itself over to his sensibilities and dropped out and Michael did as well since Burton wasn’t going to direct the third film.
@@nsasupporter7557 Dude, you essentially just said everything sonofmoss said.
Who's "everybody"? Me and all my friends and other fans of the first movie and the comic book loved it. Saw it twice in the theater and it was full both times. The audience applauded. Both times.
This movie is solid gold.
Solid gold but with the smell of old fish
I love how Bruce acts around Selina. He's the world's greatest detective, hes been in any dangerous situation you can imagine. He can solve any riddle but even he is tongue tied and awkward around pretty women. It makes him more human.
Walken's character was originally Harvey Dent, but Billy Dee Williams didn't come back, so they went with a new character with similar political motivations. Selina was only supposed to get the one half of his face, leading to Two-Face in the third movie. Obviously, that didn't play out.
What could have been. I would have been super interested to see Burton helm a third Batman film with the same level of control as he had on Returns.
I'm generally not a big fan of Tim Burton, but I absolutely LOVE this film. Michelle Pfeiffer is *the* Catwoman. No one, with the possible exception of the iconic Julie Newmar, has ever embodied that character the way Pfeiffer does. A great reaction as always! :)
I agree. I only first watched this about a year ago, and thought no Catwoman could beat Julie Newmar who i grew up with in the 80's when they showed the old show on breakfast tv before school.
I agree with you, the Batman films are his best and Pfieffer is brilliant as Catwoman.
Batman is totally me, chasing women with obvious red flags.
This is also the best Christmas movie
As my sister says when simping for the Scarlett Witch
“They said avoid red flags, but red is my favorite color”
I found it amusing that Christopher Walken's character was named Max Schreck, the same as the actor who played Nosferatu in 1922 movie of the same name.
I like to think Michael Keaton and Tim Burton really helped to put each other on the map, between putting out these movies and Beetlejuice before them. If he hasn't seen Beetlejuice, you guys should totally watch it for the channel!!
1:55. "Look at this Gomez guy." That guy is PEE WEE HERMAN!
The mother was also in Pee-Wee’s big adventure
Everything about this movie is spot on. From the characters and the vibes.
For me it's still my fav batman movie.
Good to see young folks rediscovering the masterpieces.
They actually made a comicbook version of the unmade 3rd Tim Burton Batman movie. That one had Billy Dee Williams's Harvey Dent as Two-Face, a black Robin (I assume Dick Grayson) & Catwoman returning.
The Halle Berry Catwoman movie was originally gonna be a spinoff movie with Michelle Pfeiffer returning in the role, but it took too long & Pfeiffer even declined to return because she wasn't comfortable in the costume when making Batman Returns.
Selina wasn't killed, but unconscious. She fell through 4 tarps that broke her fall.
great reaction. Tons of symbolism in this movie, about multilayered personalities, and ironically the biggest monster between Max and penguin, was infact the businessman Max Shrek. Also Bruce and Selina not wearing masks because their true persona is their alter-ego.
Quick background, Warner Bros got a ton of complaints about how dark it was and the amount of sexual references throughout and stealing babies from cribs, that they couldn't sell it to the younger demographic and it didn't take off like the first one did at the box-office.
Tim would have come back for 3, but he could tell WB weren't interested in his vision any longer, the only way he would get a third is if he brightened it up and he's like 'you really don't want me' so he bowed out. They tried very hard to get Keaton back but when he spoke with Joel Schumacher the new director wanting to make it bright flashy and campy to channel the 60s batman he walked away too. Shumacher is known for almost killing the batman franchise.
I loved Burton's batmans. The villains are iconic, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicholson should get oscars. The world, music and aesthetics are iconic. The gadgets and Keaton is my favorite of all Batmans. I would have loved a third that didn't sideline Batman so much, as it felt like he was only in the second one to stop the villains. How good would a movie have been with Keaton fighting his demons and be a force for good in a Tim Burton universe. I think that didn't happen because Burton was less interested in the Batman comic character, but more about the duality of nature hence the focus on the villains. I do love both movies so much. Great vid!
Keaton made the right call. You have to admire the integrity - he wasn't just interested in a paycheck, but preserving a far superior (and iconic) vision of Batman he helped create.
...and the world was blessed with Ed Wood instead. One of Burton's greatest movies.
To give Joel Schumacher his fair shake, he was a massive Batman fan, which is why Burton gave him his approval, and he was wanting to a _Year One_ movie, but when it became clear that he wasn't going to get to tell the story he wanted to either, he basically indulged himself in every other way possible. I think _Batman Forever_ was him making the best of a bad situation.
I love that they gave cat woman 9 lives. Meow 😻
The best portrayal of Catwoman ever. I love the idea that in an alternate universe in dc comics Bruce and Selina are married.
The Best Batman, The Best Penguin, and The Best Cat Woman!
The reason they didn't do a 3rd one was because McDonald's got so mad about how disturbing this was and it wasn't really a kids movie, so the happy meals with toys had a problem selling. They got mad at WB and pulled sponsorships for the movie.
I like this one more than the first Batman as well! Also, the stuff coming from Penguin's mouth is supposed to be bile, which was an awesome affect.
34:45 "I love a woman who can kick my ass." -Spike Spiegel
I love catwoman’s introduction to Batman and cobblepot🤣🤣
Catwoman: Meow.
🔥🔥🔥💥💥🔥🔥🔥
I love this movie along with Batman 1989, these two movies do very well with Batman's character as well as why the Burton atmosphere works for this movie. Batman and his mythos was dark, gloomy, and down right a detective. I consider these two movies as the best of what Batman was like during the Golden Age of comics. Keaton's acting was superb in this movie (as it usually is) and you can see the unsettle in his performance when he already figures out what Penguin did at the Circus.
However the true star is Michelle as Catwoman, she embodies the character so well while doing her own spin on the character. Since this Catwoman is much like Batman, psychotic in some ways but not as bad as Joker, however due to their own problems they can't be together yet. Which is a very good dynamic.
I would give this movie a ten bats out of ten bats. Highly recommend this movie to fans of Batman young and old, modern to Golden Age, especially for those that are ready for Keaton to get back in the suit.
"YOU WANNA GET NUTS?! COME ON, LETS GET NUTS!"
Selina died by the fall from the building and the cats brought her back to life but she became different and out for revenge.
That little batmobile that penguin is in to control the car was actually a real Sega arcade machine that really looked like a little batmobile that you could sit in to play it.
The Burton Batman movies were awesome. It's what got me into the character as a kid.
The cats literally breathed new life into Selina .
Keaton said at the time the third movie was being developed that when he read the script, he was unhappy with the direction the studio was going with the character, and that the villains were overshadowing Batman. I think he suspected that the studio was moving the franchise in an Adam West direction.
The villains overshadowed Batman in the first 2 movies, ha ha. But, seriously, this movie brought back the Adam West stuff with the goofy penguin mobile, silly remote control penguins, etc. I think we all liked the darkness, but not the over the top goofiness.
Max Schreck is definetely a Tim Burton Idea. There was a German Actor named Max Schreck. and his iconic Role.... Nosferatu... The one from that old icoic silent movie.
34:44 dont know why but batman using a phone is hilarious to me 😂
After this movie, the studio received a lot of feedback from "soccer moms" that it was becoming too violent, so WB decided to lighten Batman movies following this. Tim Burton was not on board with the studios direct meddling, so declined to direct any further movies (and due his departure, Keaton didn't commit to any followup movies). This of course was just par for course for WB and their "suits" constant over meddling into their directors' visions. They've had a pretty controversial history with movies like Blade Runner (there's 7 different versions of this cut alone), Superman 2 and Snyder's current DC movies.
Michelle became the best Catwoman ever. Fantastic! Batman Returns is my favorite of all the Batman movies without a doubt.
There is Terminator 2 , Aliens, Batman Returns, Ghostbusters 2, etc. which is simply a class above elite, as proven by how iconic the originals were, only to be surpassed by its sequel in stunning fashion. 🙌🏻
It remains my personal favourite Batman movie. I adore everything about it. The tone and design are *chef's kiss*, and the casting is absolutely insane.
Its gothic, its broody, its got an AMAZING score and a great script. It even has a touch of Christmas camp.
Wonderful, wonderful movie.
For me it's Batman Returns, The Dark Knight, The Batman and Batman 89. In that order.
1 of the films of my Childhood
But looking back, with the glider under his cape, maybe he could’ve jumped after the Princess 😂
Saw this in theaters as a kid and loved it. I used to watch the 89 Batman on vhs all the time, loved Joker. So this hit and I had the toys, the sheets, posters, coloring books, McDonalds cups & toys lol Even tho Batman Forever is the 3rd in this movie series they have a comic adaptation of a story written by the original writers that takes the place of this movie and has Billy Dee as Two-Face & Marlon Wayans(original choice for Robin) as Robin
This does not bind with Forever and Batman & Robin as we saw in The Flash movie, i wanted to also say, The first Batman movie was controlled by WB and that made Tim Burton upset and asked for full creativity control for Batman Return, or else he would not do it, they allowed him full controlled, but, parents didnt liked how Dark it turned out to be and Complained to WB, so they change director in forever and asked him for a more colorfull and ligther more kid movie, although Tim Burton still produced Forever.
Michelle Pfeiffer, dropkicking me into puberty a decade early.
Fun Fact- Penguin's dad is played by Pee Wee Herman...🐧
Paul Reubens.
The mother was also in pee wee’s big adventure
He'd play Penguin's dad again in the Gotham tv show!
Saw both Batman movies when I was a kid and I'm honestly really excited about Tim Burton's upcoming Batman sequel movies
My favourite Batman movie (not just because i fancy Michelle Pfeiffer in it lol). I only watched your reaction to the previous one a few hours ago, so look forward to this.
Just came across you both and love your reaction! New subscriber here!! Happy New year 😃
Originally they wrote the max schrek character to be billy Dee's Harvey dent and it would have been a very similar story with Selina. The incident at the end with her would have been how he became two-face. Setting up for the 3rd one.
It was, of coarse, scrapped for whatever reason. But I always found that interesting.
That along with Marlon Wayne's cast as Robin in this film. He still gets residuals for a movie that he was never in
Fun fact, in the Batman Returns SNES game, if you grab Penguin in the final fight, Penguin bites your nose like he did to the campaign dude
In the SNES Batman Returns game the taser clown is the first boss and you can shoot the grapnel at him to get a "cutscene" move where he takes a lot of damage from the chunk of wall. It only works in that fight 😃
The actors that set the precedent for the characters of Catwoman, the Joker, or the penguin. The actors that played the roles in the 1960s Batman series Julie Newmar Catwoman, Cesar Romero the Joker, and Burgess Meredith the Penguin. Cesar Romero created the laugh of the Joker that they all still to this day try to copy. And even though she's not in the Batman movie let's not forget Yvonne Craig, who first played the sexy, crime-fighting Batgirl in the 1960s TV hit "Batman," she set the precedent for the character Batgirl. And last but not least The Batman series had the coolest Batmobile and Adam West R.I.P. will always be Batman. The show was reruns when I was a young girl in the mid-70s yes it was a bit foolish silly but it was purposely made that way like the comic books.
You guys said you wanted it to feel more like Tim Burton in this movie so does and Michelle Pfeiffer is the bomb!! ❤
No they’re not in the same universe because of the Flash movie and the Batman’89 comic it’s the 3rd part for the movie one is called the Burton verse and the other is the Schumacher verse
It still kills me that the third one got the "family friendly" treatment because execs thought this was too dark.
Celina and Bruce are their masks...
that penguin performance is one of the most underappreciated. Amazing!
One of my favorite movies of all time
best superhero movie , imo
it's a little late for this comment but the penguins were not controlled what they had been for aiming and knowing the location. and Penguin (the human) was adopted by Penguins, not the other way around.
sometimes u have to blame the victim...if u put ur self in dangerous situations lots and and then bad stuff happens dont be so shocked...some situations you can blame the bad person and the victim
Good call on this one - it's really underappreciated in some quarters, despite some fantastic elements. I'd give it 10/10 as well.
it was really good movie. I watched it in theatre when I was 13 or 14 yrs old. You should see batman forever..Jim carrey was there, as a riddler.
I was 11
The Dark Knight is arguably the best Batman movie, but this will always be my favorite. So many amazing characters and visuals!
I really loved this reaction. This is my favorite movie of all time, especially because of Michelle's performance. I love that you guys caught on to soo many of the nuances that other reactors miss.
Damn, they blocked that earlier upload? That one had some of my fav discussions about this movie. Damn it WB.
Yeah WB is such a stickler for anything they make. That's why we didn't react to the Black Adam trailer, they don't let you use anything.

It’s my favorite Christmas movie and I’ll fight anyone who says there’s not a Christmas movie
This is my all-time favorite Batman, film with Catwoman edit, and I’m not sure if anyone mentioned in the comments below, but that’s Pee-wee Herman in the beginning of the movie being the father of the Penguin
1:07:28 he was basically a variant of Maxwell Lord for this universe; Earth 89. Batman Forever is a different universe with similarities
Batman (1989) was a Batman movie directed by Tim Burton. Batman Returns is a Tim Burton film with Batman in it.
They didn't do the 3rd one with Tim Burton because Mc Donald's complaints about the tone of the movie and the difficulty to sell happy meals with it. Also some parents expressed complaints.
WB decides to take out Burton from director's chair and make him a producer which he rejected. Michael Keaton didn't want to came back without Burton, so WB moved on... and fail.
Love this!
LOL. "Hopefully he's actually in it and it's not just a Billy Dee Williams" His character was literally SUPPOSED TO BE Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent, and Catwoman's attempt to kill him at the end is how he becomes Two-Face for the next movie. Unfortunately, the script got changed for one reason or another and, when Tim Burton was removed from Batman Forever and it came time to cast, Warner Bros. decided to pay Billy Dee off (he had a contract securing him the part) and hire Tommy-Lee Jones, because he was a bigger star and hot off The Fugitive in 1993.
Great movie, just don't watch the next two and you're all set, good reaction! 😂
There is a theory that Penguin already knew who his parents were and had them killed. He was just going to the cemetery paying respects to play the people of Gotham as the act. He already murdered his parents.
Are you guys gonna do Batman Forever???
I absolutely love your channel! This is my favorite Batman movie of all time. In my opinion, the ones that come after it pale in comparison. In my opinion, with the exception of Val Kilmer (who did his best), none of the other Batman actors, including mumbling Christian Bale and brooding Robert Pattinson, measured up to Michael Keaton. I read that Keaton backed out of the third movie when he found out his friend, Tim Burton, had been pushed out of the project. As for Catwoman, I read that Michelle Pfeiffer didn't want to put that suit back on (I'm sure it was very hot and uncomfortable). Like Keaton, I think Pfeiffer was the best Catwoman. Halle Berry was at the mercy of a poor script and I thought Anne Hathaway was ridiculous in the role (I admit, I've never enjoyed her acting, so maybe I'm being unfair). Just my opinion. Keep up the great work!
a two barrell Derringer, they're usually caliber .22
I think no one could do Catwoman`s character better than Michelle Pffifer
For me this is still the greatest live action Batman movie. I think it straddles the line between grittiness and campness just about perfectly, which is exactly what a comic book movie should be. The set design is also the greatest out of all the Batman movies, plus the casting is absolutely on point.
I think that the Dark Knight is still probably my favourite (and imo the best) but Returns is probably in my third place. What a FANTASTIC movie!
This is still the best represation of of Batman and The Penguin is brilliantly played by Danny Devito
I've seen the batman movies with Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, George Clooney, Arnold Swartzaneger and Elle Macpherson. Tbh I didn't at all get a batman vibe. You guy are right the scripts were corny as hell. Those are very talented actors that I have said before. As far as them being in a batman movie. Thats where their talent falters. Bad scripts, the Gotham city looked obviously fake. I honestly would rather see a batman cartoon. Then watch a corny batman movie...🦇
Nice Reaction Guy's
Originally, Batman Forever should have been the third chapter, but both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton refused to return because of the tone the series wanted to have (in fact production wanted to return to the campy style of '60s).
This somehow divided a lot, because for many fans it is a sequel (he have even the same Gordon and Alfred), and many others used to separate the versions, as BurtonVerse and SchumacherVerse
Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfieffer were a couple once in real life.
Bruce Wayne chooses his Batman suit based on its utility and purpose.
The people who were throwing vegetables at Oswald Cobblepot were most likely throwing the customary cabbage.
Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle didn't wear masks because they wear masks for their "work".
I love Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman 😊
Oddly enough over the years I've developed a taste for Calaramari
27:28 DeVito said that it was real raw fish meat that be was putting in his mouth here. It was sushi-grade salmon he was eating.
There was plans for a third one - but the backlash from parents groups and sponsors (there was a McDonalds happy meal tie-in to this movie) for how dark this was resulted in Tim B being removed from the directors chair and Joel S (who's much more adaptive to studio notes) getting the job for the more colourful 'toy-centric' follow ups. Remember the biggest super hero movies by 1992 was the '89 Batman movie and the Superman series from earlier in the 80s - super hero movies were still for kids. While the 89 Batman movie copped some flack for being too dark, many comic fans enjoyed it and it was a huge success, but Batman Returns was seen as going to far.
It's great that this film is getting a bit of a resurgence - with Marvel and DC pumping out so much content, the desire for different takes on the content is growing, and this film with its weird gothic vibe and sexual undertones (Devito still plays the thirstiest Penguin put to screen) it's still probably the weirdest big budget super hero movie out there.
