  • Yamaha have introduced the THR30IIA Wireless, a 30-watt stereo amplifier purpose built for acoustic guitarists. Featuring three authentic-sounding microphone models (dynamic, tube, and condenser) and onboard effects such as compression and reverb, the THR30IIA enables players to experience the sound of their acoustic-electric guitar as if it was being produced in a studio. Check out what Ben thought when we took a closer look.

Just got one of these second-hand from Guitar Guitar for the really amazing price of 249. New these are double. Great review, thank you!

I don't know but 30 watts for an acoustic gig seems like it would be just fine for most coffee house type gigs. Worst comes to worst thats what the stereo outputs are for. Run them to the club pa and that should handle any volume issues. As for the guitar sound , between the eq on the guitar itself & the eq on the amp if you can't get a decent tone then maybe guitar isn't for you. Yamaha has always made solid products. For some reason their electric guitars don't seem to sell that well. I really like this amp & have no issues with it. To each his own.

Thanks for the review Ben. I think you've hit most of the points but compared to what else is out there on the market this didn't do it for me.
I have the 5 watt thrA and was hoping this would be a bigger better version of that. It has a few good features like the in built battery charger, line out and separate mic input. Its not even that much louder to be fair.
Unfortunately they've taken a lot of the bass off, presumably because of distortion issue particularly when the guitar is in an open tuning or dropped D. And they dropped the best amp setting EG Clean, presumably only now available on the electric guitar amp version.
It's lost all the warmth of the smaller amp. The tone is way too bright for me. Absolutely gutted I so hoped this was going to solve a lot of issues, but its come up well short and way over priced. Its nice enough but you could buy an AER for another couple of hundred pounds which is on a completely different planet and many better amps a lot cheaper. Do try one for yourself though. I had my Yamaha 5 watt, Roland Ac33, Marshall acoustic and another Roland . All had a much warmer tone than the THR30A. Dont even talk to me about the app. For heaven sake sort the tone warmth out Yamaha you just wrecked a great idea. I'd put up with a bit of distortion to get the bass back.

I fully agree. I have the THR5A and the tone so much richer and louder. The 30IIA is completely lacking in tone and the volume is less, or is it just that it is thin and empty compared to the 5A. I also agree that the loss of the EG Clean was a mistake, too. I use my 5A for a sweet warm jazz tone., even though I primarily use it for my acoustic guitars. All the bells and whistles can’t make up for the HUGE LOSS of tone.

Are there any chances that you can do a review of the Ortega Full-Stack Acoustic Amplifier? It looks really interesting to me, but I’m not quite sure about it‘s usability. Although I would probably only use one of the cabinets they offer. I really like your honest reviews! :)

What would you recommend for something very similar, but for gigs instead?

I find the lineout to be disappointing. I can't get a nice blend of using the amp as a monitor and getting a good lineout signal. I end up using the headphone jack with a laptop di, which defeats the built in speakers. The only way to balance the DI sound is via the app and using 100% direct out creates a very very hot signal out.

What is the difference between the THR30II since the normal version also have acoustic mode?

Can you adjust the volume of the bluetooth audio stream independently like you can with the THR30II? How?

You mentioned looper in combination with this amp. I just do not understand how you would use a looper with this amp. I feel it is missing a step to connect the looper, or maybe I do not know looper enough.

I own the THR10C (blues version) for electric guitars. There is also a rock (the normal THR10), a metal (THR10X) and acoustic version (second gen) like you see in this video! I can highly recommend these amps.

I have THR5a (smaller acoustic amp) which has a EG Clean channel for Electric Guitar.
Its OK, nothing to shout about, but handy for practising chops and low gain stuff. I see this one has Tube setting, so that may be ok for electrics.
Its a great little amp, and I love it with my Faith Blood Moon Venus.
