  • The U.S. economy added 206,000 jobs in June, beating economists' expectations, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate crept up to 4.1%, its highest point since 2021. Jeanna Smialek, Federal Reserve and U.S. economy reporter for the New York Times, joined CBS News to break down the numbers.

More jobs openings doesn't mean the economy and inflation is improving. Prices are higher than ever and now the average person needs two jobs to afford the same things they had a decade ago.

Of the 206K jobs added in June, how many of those jobs were part time, and how many left the job market entirely?

Unemployment number means nothing. Its based on those who collect unemployment , my state makes it incredibly difficult to get on unemployment. I couldn't even get on it during the lockdown. The number is no doubt higher than what both parties like to tell us.

It's not new job creation. It's people having to work 2 or 3 jobs to survive the economy 🙄

Half are probably ghost jobs. I was laid off recently. It’s a train wreck out there. I’m competing against hundreds of people for most of these jobs. Jobs I’m 100% qualified for go nowhere.

I only happened on this CBS report by accident (since I have zero confidence on it's impartiality, honesty and competence), and I wasn't disappointed: despite presenting a less than celebratory report on the jobs report, this recap fell well short of showcasing the pathetic results I've seen (and personally confirmed) elsewhere on this morning's jobs report. It's pathetic to see such a poor job doing an honest report, but the Wall Street Journal initially did the same. It's getting harder and harder to find out the truth (other than that the government almost always lies), but it's out there as I've seen--it just takes a bit more effort than it should with a 'free press'.

During the recession, grocery corporations have reported record profits, driven by substantial price increases on essential groceries. This indicates that these corporations have benefited financially despite the economic challenges faced by consumers. Use Google or Google uses you, the world is at your fingertips.

It just means more people have decided to look for work because more jobs are being made. People not looking for work are not considered part of the workforce and so arent recorded as unemployed. And agreed wages are not keeping up with inflation so people are looking for work but not willing to sell themselves short based on the jobs pay. Raise the pay of said new jobs guaruntee the uneployment would go down.

People Graduate from college , 2 and 4 years plus nursing, and Christmas hiring starts in September and October for Thanksgiving and black Friday sales at malls.
I went shopping this week for groceries and spent 300 dollars and 175 dollars went to stuff you can't eat and groceries are up
    Eggs 3.50 to 14.00 dollars
Cereal 7.50 to 9.99 and less in box
    Beef 3.75 to 45 dollars
    Milk 3.99 to 7.75 a gallon
    Chicken 1.99 to 16 dollars
Butter 4.99 to 9.99 per pound
Everything is higher at groceries store and even store brands are following suit by putting less in boxes and laundry soap.

The items that haven't had prices come down is junk food.

This is being reported all over. Why do you choose to thumb your nose at actual facts?

    • @heyaisdabomb
      @heyaisdabomb 16 днів тому

@@WabiSabiLady It's not facts, in my stats textbook, we call these "deceptive statistics". The wage growth number for example include extreme outliars, like CEOs whose pay went up millions of dollars. The $85,000 average income for an American also includes these extreme outliers. When you remove the extreme rich, you are left with $51,000 being the average salary. Unemployment rate is deceptive because it's only telling you how many people are getting laid off at any given time. After 6 months, you can be unemployed but your not counted in that stat. Inflation numbers don't include housing, which is our biggest expense and has inflated enormously.
