Turbo Granny seemingly talking harsh things about Silky vanishing into oblivion, but her real intention was to make sure Aira can hear her words and do something about it, and thanks to Aira's embrace, Silky finally found peace and reunited with her daughter in afterlife.
I don't really know how you guys can cry over characters that you have no emotional attachment to. Fair enough if they were likable characters that made you fall in love with them instantly but they make you hate the characters at first and only made them likeable in the flashbacks/backstory so it didn't make me cry
@@GrowingDownUnder Ah..let me explain...it's not about a charecter...it's about a single mother giving her everything for her child but failing to protect her in the end because we live in a cruel world...if you can't empathize with the general sense of dread and heartbreak of that then you severely lack in the emotional intelligence/ EQ department!! Hope this explains why you didn't cry or baffled by why everyone else did!!
@@itachiuchiha-bl5wv Or maybe you're just a crybaby?? lol yeah i'm going with that one. Because this backstory lasted for less than half of the entire episode, which just to me isn't even long enough to build any emotional attachment to a character. I can feel empathy but i'm not going to cry over something i'm not emotionally attached to that's not how crying works you don't just cry unless something really affects you on a personal level which it didn't for me. I've cried during a lot of anime and this isn't one of them. But then again maybe I just appreciate better story writing than this, these characters we hated literally moments before the flashback it's gonna take a lot more than a few seconds or minutes for me to go from hating a character to feeling bad for them. And maybe you don't get that because it's actually you who lacks emotional intelligence so understandable. Also the flashback was done in a compilation/montage format it's not like we even heard the child talk like one entire time or got to know anything about that child we barely got any information about the mother either except they liked to dance. But also i've just seen much sadder anime moments than this so it takes a lot to make me cry now when the standard has been raised much higher. Like if you can top Banana fish level of sadness then sure i'll cry until then i've gone through much sadder anime moments than this, this just feels like a classic background character death not even a main character so mehh
Dandadan always follows the same principles from episode 4: respect the spirits. It's a goofy comedy anime, but they make it a point to treat the spirits with respect and show their story in a serious light. Oh yes, there will be a lot more of this in the future.
During this chapter of the manga, they showed the dress a couple more times and you got the feeling that the mom felt bad that she couldn't provide more than just the basics for her daughter, even with all she was doing. So it's implied that she took some sort of loan or extra money to buy the dress and probably couldn't pay it back, so they assaulted them. I think that's part of the symbolism of why Silky wears the dress, in a way it's the thing that killed her.
By the way, the mom jumped from a building just at the end of her dance, we saw the stars up and the town's light down and we heard the sound of the body fall on the ground. It was showed in the manga but not in the anime for many reasons (Teenagers first watch it, pb in Japan about su*icide etc...) I read the manga but i'll never though this anime's version was so awesome made (Animations & music). It's really a plus to the Manga, i re-discover this moment. The way we saw at a moment in the backstory, a180° like the woman doll dancing with music.
That dreadful feeling of knowing something horrible is gonna happen but we can't do anything to stop it the moment the flashback showed us her daughter...
@@exii-bit7349 I do love how he's just being himself, though. If he tried to do the whole 'react harder' thing that so many other youtubers do, I wouldn't be here watching his videos after all this time.
I really appreciate that they treated Aira dying with care and didn’t do a whole thing about Okarun having to do mouth to mouth, I’ve seen anime do that before and it totally ruined the seriousness of the moment. Respect to Dan da Dan
For real. Especially considering the type of person Momo truly is. It would have been out of character for her to make a fuss about Okarun "kissing" another girl in that scene.
The Author's an actual genius cause Momo & Okarun's "kiss" 2 episodes ago made it so fans wouldn't have a reason to make Okarun's CPR on Aira a big deal.
I'm expecting a joke about it as this plot wraps up. But yeah, with what we know about Momo's character, it really would have felt out of place for her to get all squeamish, or even hesitate to ask Okarun to do that.
Sad to say in the manga when Aira gave Silky closure to pass on, it shows the final pages of her and daughter in the light. It implies that the daughter may have passed away too but they both were able to reunite to paradise
I got the impression that money she took to buy her daughter a dress ended up short-changing the mafia she was indebted to. Easily the best and most tragic ghost backstoryI've seen since Gyutaro/Daki in Demon Slayer. I love Japanese ghost stories and I'm glad to see DanDaDan go beyond its over the top goofiness and punch us in the feels.
I fking love this show. Its good to see that some poppin off anime and manga are starting off to hopefully fill in the void of some upcoming and or recently ended manga
i just KNOW this episode hits harder for everyone with a deadbeat dad and a warrior mother drove half an hour just to hug my ma crying and she couldn't understand what happened lmao, beautiful episode.
Here are some interesting details about the episode: -The slam sound we hear after the dancing scene is because she jumped from a building to kill herself -The flashback lasts 7 minutes, it's the same time the brain remains alive when you're about to die The manga it's more explicit, so I encourage you guys to check out the chapter to get to full experience of the mother and daughter. Yukinobu Tatsu it's really an amazing mangaka
I've seen other people talk about the sound, but I have not seen anyone talk about the 7 minutes. That's a crazy detail. If I can get myself to read manga I will be sure to check it out
I was wondering about the sound, thanks! Now I'm curious bc the anime makes it seem completely different. How did she end up on a roof? What's the timeline for that? She regains consciousness in the apartment and then runs into the street to chase the car, loses her strength, then falls on the road. I assumed that was when she started having her life flash before her death, that would be her final resting place and she'd bleed out in the puddle. That's all I know - I haven't read the manga. So does she not bleed out there and die? If so, it's earie to imagine she gets up from bleeding out again and opts to end herself rather than continue chasing...
@@SphexyGamingYou could see the “lake” right??it means not long after she collapsed in the street to catch her daughter’s kidnappers where it was rainy and you could see the wound and blood in her garment as she danced. Here the fact that wasn’t known to a lot people, this backstory happened in 80s(from the cash and overall setting) where Japan economic downturn hit hard, she has been dealing with Yakuza meaning no one willing to help coz anybody deal with Yakuza was frowned upon by society at large, that is when she couldn’t catch up she knew her daughter’s fate was sealed. So she was back to her tier apartment rooftop and express her desperation for the last time.

I told myself I would never rewatch this episode. The terrible possibilities of what that child abduction implies... Loan sharks coming for money but taking the kid instead - that's some dark stuff
Based on some other comments I read this chapter of the manga and they do a better job explaining the starlit ballet section. In the manga they do a better job showing that she's on a rooftop dancing and the leap at the end is her jumping off. It just makes it that much worse and they show Momo wishing that they could be happy in the afterlife.
1. She owed money 2. She was prostituting to make money to afford the dress and raise the child 3. The people came to get the money but kidnapped the child and the child probably will be trafficked 4. She took her off life by jumping off the building 5. The little girl wasn't her daughter but lost her mum, she could see spirits and saw her then confused her with the mother 6. She thought the little girl was her daughter because she called her mummy 7. The girl called her mummy at the end, even though it's not her real mummy but to make her rest in peace happily
the anime unfortunately had a few censhored scenes and wasn't the best choice to adapt, yet in the manga you can see she was making extra money sleeping with men, and taking money from yakuza, that's why her child got kidnapped, after she jump from the building she turns into a youkai, dandadan is all about youkais spirits that died holding grudge, so you better expect every ghost to have a backstory, and at the end of the chapter you can see the acro silky going to the afterlife with her daughter, implying that unfortunately both already passed away
Any guess on what happened to the daughter after the abduction? Is it implied that the Yakuza had some creepy intentions with the kid? or did they just kxll her shortly after driving off? And how did silky go from lying on the road to jumping off a building? I haven't read the manga yet, is there better context?
@@SphexyGaming the most likely scenario is that she was trafficked (whether for organs or something else) but most likely died shortly after that, we don't really have more context in the manga on that matter in comparison to the anime... When it comes to the other part, in the manga also goes from trying to follow after her daughter to the rooftop
@@SphexyGaming i said it already, the anime censored it, you can see in the end of the manga chapter the mother and daughter going to the afterlife together implying that both are already gone/dead, the girl probably died that day but the mother stayed in earth as a youkai ghost cause she hold grudge against humans and the daughter didn't
No, she was actually in debt, she didn't get the money together within the stipulated time, instead she used it to buy clothes, that's why her child was taken away
The envelope is money to pay off the debt. She ended up buying a dress for her child with that money. It may have been a Yakuza loan shark. For example, she could have been a guarantor for her ex-husband who ran away.
