    "If you care about Ray Tracing, the GeForce card is better value. If you don't care about Ray Tracing, the Radeon card offers better rasterization performance for the price" - this video, basically.

      I think you can make that even easier:
      If you want a $50 discount for lower raytracing performance you can get AMD

      @@tonymorris4335 - It's not fucked at all, several samples made it through, they're fine (they're just not the X3D models yet). They delayed the official launch so that reviewers compare Zen 5 to _patched_ 14th gen Intel CPUs, which will likely be slower than unpatched ones. The fact that they hadn't even released official prices means this wasn't a last-minute decision, they were waiting for Intel to make a move (announcing the microcode patch).
      Plus they get to say: "See, we're a very responsible company that won't hesitate to recall every CPU out there that doesn't meet our quality standards (unlike _certain people,_ nudge-nudge), and we'll have it all fixed in less than two weeks."

Its not the end of the world. You people remind me of listening to my boomer grandparents talk about how they could get a bag of groceries and fill their gas tank for ten bucks.
      The scalping/mining situation for a few years, when you couldn't find ANYTHING for less than 2xMSRP, was when things were bad. Things are fine now, people just acting super weird.

      @davidmacfarlane4761 19 днів тому +2

      @@EloyBushida I have had grandparents that did the same thing and didn't account for inflation when they discussed prices from the old days. I will admit though that the $200 price difference you suggest is a bit on the generous side.. an X70 class card (RTX 4070 for reference) cost $550 in 2024 dollars. an X70 class card (GTX 970 for reference) cost $329 in 2014 dollars. That a 67% difference (not accounting yet for inflation). When inflation is accounted for we find that $1 in 2014 is worth $1.33 in 2024. Inflation accounts for about only 50% of the price hike that is observed.

      I'm not just talking about inflation, prices go up outside inflation, its just how it is. If anything the PC and console gaming spaces have been lucky in this regard. I remember buying SNES games for 80 bucks in the 90s. 80 bucks in 1993 is like 170 now.

      @@12coco100 The 5700 XT is starting to have issues in some games because of the 8GB of vram, though considering that it's been five years, and considering that it offered excellent bang per buck for a card released in 2019, and considering that its closest priced competitor from Nvidia had 6GB of vram, and with the more expensive 2060 Super also having 8GB, I definitely wouldn't consider that to be worthy of criticism.

    The 7900 GRE vs 7800 XT comparison is very misleading. The GRE is 12% more expensive for a 9% uplift in performance, but that's at stock settings where it's very limited. An overclock of 15% to its memory only (which is what TechPowerUp achieived with their sample) results in a 14.9% increase to its performance in a synthetic benchmark. In your 4K 12 game average that results in a 73 FPS average, putting it over the 4070 Ti Super and right under the 7900 XT

However, assuming that your system isn't too slow or just too small to accommodate an RX 6800, even the most basic models of RX 6800 are of better build quality than the cheaper models of RX 6700 XT or 6750 XT, and also considering that it has 33% more vram in addition to significantly more computer power, an additional 50 USD is likely well worth it, and I'd say that the 6800 is actually likely to be a better value, but I think that will also come down to exactly what models are available as well. Pricing and availability can fluctuate a fair bit, and can vary a lot by region.
      For a new system, the extra 50 USD to get the RX 6800 would be well worth it if you can possibly afford it, imo. The low memory bandwidth of the 4060 ti can potentially be an issue, but it's actually very rare, and the memory bandwidth isn't as big of an issue as the lack of compute power, or the very small 8GB vram capacity of the cheaper model. 16GB is probably a bit excessive for that level of compute power, but having more than 8GB is definitely very useful, and there will probably eventually be some games where having more than 12GB could actually be useful with the 4060 ti.
      The 16GB model is a very slow card for the price, but, if you have very high electricity prices and/or if you also often play games in a hot, poorly ventilated room, and if you tend to play long hours, then the 16GB 4060 ti could end up saving you a lot of money in the long term and actually make back all of the money you could have saved by getting something like an RX 6800 or RX 6750 XT (and you should undervolt it whenever you're not playing demanding games to get the power usage down even lower).
      The 16GB 4060 ti can also be a good low-end workstation card for some specific types of workloads.
      It would have made a lot of sense if they had just made one 12GB desktop model of the 4060 ti, but that would have required making a completely different GPU die than the laptop version, which would have cost more money, and it probably would have also needed a 192-bit bus, which would have also cost more money. With the laptop version of the 4060 ti, it is more practical and less of a problem to have only 8GB of memory, given that the GPU runs a lot slower on the laptop variant and thus has less compute power, and likely runs games on a much smaller screen, so turning down the texture quality or the rendering resolution is less likely to actually hurt the subjective image quality as much, though even on the laptop variant, more vram still would have been useful and nice to have.

    Joined Team Red this year and I don’t see myself going back. Adrenaline Software is amazing. Prices are way better. Raster performance is way better. And I get that proper amount of VRAM.

    I bought an RTX 4070 for myself. An RTX 4060 for my eldest son. And an RX 6600 for my youngest. Honestly the best value out of the lot was the RX 6600 (Gigabyte Eagle). It looks awesome, performs well, and costs a very reasonable AU$295/US$192. It's easily the smarter option if you are not looking above 1080p in my humble opinion.

    Are there really people out there making GPU purchase making decisions based on Ray tracing? That's so wild to me..

    • @puffyips
      @puffyips Місяць тому

      It’s less wild as we head into the future where it will be a necessity for mid range cards to have good raytracing especially from amd.

      @@puffyips I don;t understand why it will be "necessary", though? It just isn't, it'll always be just optional, for single-player games...? It's positively undesirable for competitive multi-player games, like DLSS, for all the reasons that we know about. Anyway, you want it, buy it!

    i recenetly did an upgrade from gtx 960 to a rtx 3060 12g and i'm very happy with this budget king. plays every light game at 1440p and ps1 emulation rendering easily at 4k.
    when i buy something new i will make this thing a dedicated media player pc for living room.
    i heavily recommend this gpu for people on tight budget who just want to game modern games
