Yamaha XSR900 Review - 16,000 Miles Later!!!

- After two years & 16,000 miles later, here is my review of my 2017 Yamaha XSR900.
Overall, I've been very happy with this bike. From it's looks to performance, I think it's awesome. It does just fine on the highway and you will never have issues merging with traffic. But with it's quick acceleration & wide handlebar, it's even more fun on the street & twisties. You'll soon realize it is more sport oriented bike with the stiff seat, stiff suspension & subtle forward riding position. You will need some self-control, but it does slow down very nicely for downtown traffic, especially with the help of the easy pulling clutch.
If you're looking for a retro-inspired, but enjoy modern performance, this is a great choice. - Авто та транспорт
I ride a 2017 XSR900 yet I still watch XSR900 reviews lol. Great video!
Thanks!! Then you know it's a great bike too haha
Isaac P oh yeah absolutely. If I were you I’d get rid of those orange pumpkin signals you have 😂😂. I bought bunker custom cycles headlight brackets and m-blaze pin led turn signals for my bike and it makes it look soooo much cleaner. Also got a new headlight from LedPerf.com which helped the front end look much better and provides better illumination for nighttime riding.
@@11dslee Yes the pumpkin signals have to go. After seeing another xsr900 splitting lanes going over reflectors on the road, it was causing them to bounce a lot, not a cool look at all LOL. The next day I picked up some smaller once but never put them on. Have to find the time soon. Eventually will get another headlight too.
Isaac P yeah I hear you! I waited until I had enough $ for the headlight and turn signals so that I could do them both at the same time. It’s just more efficient that way.
Same here lol, just a 2021
2019 Xsr900 owner here, yep it's a great bike! Like your gloves & mirrors look good to. Do more vids if you mod it out further, gotta hear that new pipe! Good video, I subscribed 👍
Such a cool bike. I like the way your bar end mirrors look.
Thanks for watching!
Good video man subbed and liked I have a black 2017 one done 4000 miles last few months , think they call the XSR a sports heritage model RD 350 inspired .
Awesome! I don't think they offered that color over here, but it's one of the best ones!
It’s February 2021 and I have been doing research for a long time and white bike I want to buy I have had other bikes in the past my last one being at 750 Kawasaki LTD. I just love the looks of this bike and the adjustable modes are perfect for getting back into it!Thanks for the video
Similar story to mine except I had a Kawasaki 454 Ltd. I was off a bike for about 6 years and bought the xsr900. I had it in B mode for a week maybe, if that. I'm glad I went with the 900. I don't think you'd regret it.
Great review, Isaac! You Rizoma mirrors should have come with plugs for the stock mirror threads.
These are actually some clones I got from ebay. I didn't realize they were based off Rizoma's until after I got them. But I like the stock bar end weights so I just attach them to the weights.
@@IsaacPel I think he's referring to the threads where you removed the stock mirrors. If you don't plug them the bare metal will rust over time.
Hey Isaac! Great vid! I love my xsr900. I love yours with beautiful blue paint. :) What mirrors are those? Can you post a link? I bought some that weren't compatible sadly. :(
Thanks! The paint is really nice and deep! For the mirrors, just look up Oval Bar End Mirrors on Ebay and they will show up. I'll probably do a quick video on it later but they are advertised as 7/8". It comes with adapters but I just wrapped electrical tape around the stock bar ends and tightened these down. Works great!!
@@IsaacPel Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for your experiential report of the XSR 900. It makes me feel like getting one soon. **Do you need to have a “cam chain” gadget, as some had recommended ?
I have over 25,000 miles on the bike and the stock cam chain adjuster is fine.
Great Bike and Review. I had placed a reservation for a 2016 with only 6000 Km. I'm struggling on with the purchase or not, since I own a Ducati Multistrada 1260S and my fear is that I will no longer use it once I own the Yamaha. Mainly I use it on a daily basis on City, downtown and occasionally short weekend day trips with my wife. Any Thoughts? Regards and Ride Safe. PS: I live in Argentina.... time bomb Country
I just subsrcibed. Did you find that suspension is too soft? I remember my test ride on MT09 2018, and the front was too soft for me and the front was diving a lot. What is your weight? How can you comment this. Otherwise very good-looking bike and if suspension is OK, this can be on my list for next bike. Thanks.
Not the OP but I can maybe answer your question. The XSR900 has adjustable preload and rebound for both the rear shock absorber and the front forks. I'm not sure about this, but I believe the MT09 doesn't have adjustable forks. So if you found the suspension too soft on the MT09, you can adjust it on the XSR900. Hope it helps.
@@kitandrei Thanks.
Have you been running the Mobil One Racing 4t 10w 40 the whole time? How do you like that oil for this bike? Thanks
I’ve been using it for each oil change ever since I got the bike. No complaints so far, and the bike runs great!
Around how much are you paying for the insurance bro? I'm planning on getting one as a summer daily driver.
I only have liability only you can probably expect anywhere between a little over $100 to almost $200 for the year. You get discounts for multiple vehicles. Most of the big insurance companies have online quotes you can run or call them.
@@IsaacPel thanks! Cause I didn't want to pay north of a $100 monthly.
The number 1 most important upgrade is an akropivic carbon exhaust. The bike becomes 5x better.
The induction noise is better every clown has loud exhaust now stock is better
@@boomerhgt Every clown. LMAO. You clearly are talking from a point of ignorance.
PumpkinSpiceLatte Been riding motorcycles for 45 years bubba it's called wisdom
Xsr 1000 with MT-10 engine, C'mon Yamaha!!!
Hell yes, the only reason I'd sell my xsr900 would be to get a xsr1000
how is the seat comfort
, and is the riding position comfortable
Not as comfy as a cruiser but definitely way more comfortable compared to a Supersport. You feel a lot of wind but that's expected on a standard/naked bike. The seat is okay especially if you are adjusting the seat position a lot on curves but if just cruising long miles on the highway, a cushion or softer seat may help.
Isaac P It's not a bike for long journeys
@@boomerhgt I never said it was and they don't advertise it to be. They have the FJ09 for that type of riding.
@@IsaacPel - I’m planning to ride it to Thailand from Singapore, once Covid is over & borders are open. I love the easy nature of the bike. I used to ride a GS1200 & a Ducati Diavel. This is like a lightweight with a heavyweight punch but cheaper to run & own. If I could tour in this , it’s a keeper 🙏🏼
Not as bad as a bicycle seat but close. It got way better when I put clubman bars on it
You need a tail tidy bro.
I know should've had one by now! I have some metal sheet so we'll see
Tail tidy loud exhaust yawn be different keep it stock
