I saw it as a kid on TV in the late 70's. They always showed it at Christmas time. Pretty sure we watched it in school around the holidays before we went home for the week. Great movie:-)!
Kudos to all these men for trying and the song makes them more awesome! I see it as a tribute to these brave souls who moved to change the world and technology many long ago!
disney fan81 I can see what they were going for. Kind of like a primitive helicopter. However, the body is too heavy and the engines of the time weren’t powerful enough to get it off the ground. Think what happened with Sir Hiram Maxim’s plane. There’s a reason he stuck with making machine guns.
In a way, though the song is more mocking than anything, it gains sincerity when seen in this light. They endured more than failure; no doubt they were mocked by their community. And didn't win any ladies hearts. Wilbur and Orville Wright vindicated all of these daring men.
I have just determined that this montage is a perfect representation of my love life. Does anyone know, is this historic footage of actual attempts at flight, movie re-creations intended to look like such, or some of both?
Growing up in the early-2000's before the internet, I used to go to friend's houses with this movie on a VHS tape in order to play it for them just to see their reactions.
@@Swedeflyern I didn't too. It was unnecessary for me at that age but still the internet was really unpopular in early 00's. Only very rich people could afford having a pc
They paid tribute to the guy with the ice skates and rocket pack as a stunt in the first Jackass movie. It involved Johnny Knoxville wearing bottle rocket powered roller skates trying to bomb a hill in Japan.

I give all these people so much credit. It's hard to believe that there really was a time when we didn't have airplanes.

that 'Flying Car' is more a machine to cause motion sickness rather than flying
It's a torture device!
At 0:30, it almost seems like that contraption is bouncing up and down to the rhythm of the song
Yeah, since the first time I saw the footage of that thing, I've wondered how the heck they expected it to get off of the ground?
