Fun fact: Back in 1974, the U.S. Forest Service planted 150 Sequoias up there in Black Mountain.

My experience on the PCT back in 2016, which by the way was a record setting snow year is to never believe what other hikers say about trail conditions. Everyone likes to hype up the conditions to make them look like a hero. When we got to San Jacinto hikers were telling me I needed crampons, ice ax and how everyone was falling off a cliff. "what a joke" I went up with no ax or micro spikes. There was lots of snow, but I found it to be extremely easy to get through. I never slipped once or post holed. You need to do what's best for you, but if you continue to listen to all the bull I guaranty you will be skipping 50 % of the trail going forward. FYI 80% of hikers carrying a ice ax have no clue how to use it!! That in itself is more dangerous than not having one at all.

I would not say there was Bull. Several people that I was hiking with decided to go up San Jacinto. They went roughly 10 miles and promptly turned around due to the very poor and dangerous conditions.

I went through San Jacinto (Hacinto) last year in early April. The state park was closed for several days due to a big storm that rolled through. I was the 3rd or 4th person to go through after the park opened up. It was deep and slow, but it was not dangerous. The good thing is that with all the snow, I just went over 99% of the blowdowns, without even knowing they were there. Fear mongering is a real problem on the PCT.
Let me know if you need any trail magic when you get to the middle of Oregon. Santiam Pass is the closest the trail get to me, but I don't mind driving. I can bring stuff up to you or bring you back to the house for a day off if you would like.

Are you going to skip the High Serra section because of snow?

Mom said their cow would sweeten her milk with cactus pears. I'll stop with this episode since I plan to do this stretch in ~week. I planned 1 day up from Humber TH and 2 down to Whitewater. How long did it take you and which trails did you use? Deer Trail up? Did you stop at Snow Creek or is there an alternate trail to Cabazon?

Oh geez, I don't remember all the names of the various trails. I simply followed my FAROUT maps and went where it told me. I highly recommend getting the FarOut app on your phone for the PCT

A wise choice to skip San Jacinto.
