I heard that some people basically made their own trail to get passed the area. I also heard the National forest service did not appreciate the "NEW" trail in what was once an untouched area.
Oh, you'd be amazed at what people steal from pit toilets. 😉 So I know the PCT is closed at the Whitewater Nature Preserve (for public safety), the trail itself is closed to hikers? I've walked that stretch many times, not sure how it would be impassable because the trail to Red Dome is pretty far away from the river. From there, you would just need to forge through multiple crossings maybe up to your knees or possibly your waste. I'll have to ask what exactly caused the closure.
@@robertt9270 The reports change by the day, Whitewater closed the trail on the public side at the preserve, I think there is a bit of fear mongering going around, as well. The PCTA provided an alternate route going through Mission Creek, I'm following 5 different hikers and the only one that I know went through Mission Creek was Frozen and he didn't show much footage other than the alternate route taking him straight up the mountain. Frozen also went through Idyllwild and said it wasn't too terrible, we had several storms every weekend for like 2 months, I thought PCT though Idyllwild would have been closed, but people are pushing through. But, this is his hike and he needs to follow his gut and be safe. If he wants to come back and finish some of the So Cal sections, I'll take him anywhere he needs to go!
Great job! I was raised in Calgary and have been in Victoria the past 30 years. I saw the airport shot in your first video. :) I'll turn 64 on the PCT in 2025. Just wondering who you went through for travel insurance? I've checked in with World Nomads and was quoted 2k. You have great perseverance and determination. I'll be following along with you through your entire journey. Wondering what you do to fight the mental game of hiking every day? Any big surprises you didn't think of while planning? Is it what you expected? How's your body holding out? Keep up the amazing effort. Chat soon.
The Mission Creek area is washed out but certainly passable as several of the hikers I'm following have done it.

A lot of peeps have hiked whitewater/mission creek this year. PP seems to be alone and skipping the challenging sections.
