Bought one yesterday. SE 4Motion is Platinum Gray. Got a total of $1000 under MSRP. Not bad considering the local Toyota, Kia and Honda dealers had outrageous markups. A Kia Seltos S FWD had $5000 over sticker. Crazy!

I bought the 2019 model at the end of the year and was able to negotiate a hefty discount considering that they had the 2020's already on the lot. I have been driving mine for just over 2 years now and couldn't be happier. I also got the SE 4Motion version and it drives and handles great!

Same, I was torn between 2022 Higline R-Line (SEL R-Line in USA) and 2021 Highline R-Line and chose the 2021. I kinda like the looks better of 2021 as it looks more aggressive on the front end, as well as I prefer to have the last year of the model as most kinks of the model are worked out by then. It's a fact because 2018 - 2019 had a lot of issues and they were also slow and had problems with acceleration, that were fixed in 2020 and 2021 models. So, since 2022 is the first year of the facelift, I kinda looked at that skeptical. I'd rather wait for 2023 model if I wanted to go with the facelift.

I drove a 1984 Jetta for 20 years. Loved that car. There's just something about the tight door shut, styling inside. Roomy, quiet, very stylish, tasteful compared to the Japanese offerings. Like the 2021 more. Not a fan of touch controls, especially on steering wheel.

The R-Line has a look my wife likes, it’s not for me, but the black wheels,,,,,,, it’s a trend that is well past it’s age limit. If she bought it she would figure in another $2k for new wheels she likes as part of the cost when comparing to other vehicles.
She currently has a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4xe. She loves this more than her previous favourite!! She said, depending on performance and looks, she will probably upgrade (questionable to some) to a Grand Cherokee 4xe when they come out,,,,,,,. I currently drive a Bronco Badlands High package, 4 door, no Sasquatch package though. It performs very closely to the 2019 Rubicon Diesel I had, but is sooo much more comfortable everywhere and drives much nicer on regular roads. I think it’s a home run, but will, when they get to be more common, switch to a 2 door model. I don’t need the Sasquatch package, it looks great but is a lot of $$ for just looks in my case.
Obviously the VW is not for everyone, especially the R-Line. (An expensive appearance package).

I bought a 2022 on June 3rd, less $1750 from sticker. Honestly I’m not sure of the model, but I honestly liked my 2021 better. I think it was a step up or maybe 2. I just wanted a red one. I had a black one which was gorgeous. I was told VW wasn’t going to be making colors other than basic white, black and silvers next year in the Tiguan so I had to move. It is a 4x4. I’m suffering from buyer’s remorse big time. Too late now. 72 hours have passed. It is gorgeous, but…….I’ll get used to it. I have to. I do love the Tiguan. This is my third one. I hate that cheap crap silver plastic thing under the rear hatch. Couldn’t be removed. Not nuts about the graphite wheels. They offered to switch them out, but they would have been an inch smaller and I was worried about my sensors functioning properly. It’s just a car, but it wasn’t cheap. Also, it doesn’t have a sun roof. My 21 did. I don’t care. I didn’t want a sunroof. It’s very comfortable to drive and quiet like my 2021. Not the tin can the Toyota Rav 4 is. Lots of leg room for the men in the family, the short ones are 6 feet and they can ride comfortably in the back seat.

I agree with you soooo much. The black wheels make the vehicle look cheap. Might as well throw a set of Winter steelies with winter tires on there and call it good. I don’t mind the painted wheels with machined surfaces. This can definitely bring attention to the wheels as well as the rest of the vehicle.
I do see the split around like vs dislike is age, to a large degree. The younger crowd like the design aspects of blacked out vehicles. Then there’s a mid range group that like the painted bumpers but silver/shiny wheels, and then the some what older to just oldest, lots of chrome, age group.
I respect the choices, but fall into both of the older groups, depending on the age of the vehicle I have. The challenge for automakers is to offer something for everyone. If only the wheels on the R-Line had machined faces with the black otherwise, I could appreciate it more. I would never buy any current VW though. It’s been decades since they have built any truly reliable vehicles. I have several friends an acquaintances that have had them. I am quite sure none of them bought a second one except my one brother-in-law. Both diesels, 2nd gen Jetta and 3rd gen Jetta (I think) and both had quite similar problems. He has nothing good to say about them now. Another friend only ever owned a diesel wagon from when they first advertised 1000km/tank or 600+ miles/tank of fuel. He says he has owned 2 though as he fixed that one so much out of warranty that he replaced it at least once!!! Hahaha. He did tune it for more power and the motor/transmission lasted about 200,000 km, then dynamited itself. He literally drained all the fluids, dug a hole about 12 feet deep, then after he ran his bi 4wd tractor over it and let most of us have a turn, pushed it into the hole and buried it!!! Hahaha. He is a hilarious guy and the first invited to any get together,,,,,,,,. That car now sits about 9 ft under the middle of a 160 acre field!!

I used to be a huge VW and Audi fan in my 20-s. These cars were well made and had timeless design.
Current models are a bad execution of technology and useless design.
Touchscreen where buttons work better, piano black plastic and fake exhausts. Not to mention the issues most new tech: carbon buildup, pdf issues, dual clutch issue, DCG issues.
Now I have Forester. It has 30+ buttons on steering wheel, so I can adjust things quickly. There is less piano black plastic, and there is an ordinary exhaust. It's nothing special, it's "Das Auto" more than VW.
I understand that most cars have some reliability issues and bad style, but VW&Audi are on a bad path since 2000.
