    Confused? LONG STORY SHORT:
    My name is Jess! I had a daughter (Lilia) at age 18 w/ my high school sweetheart. We mutually split up & co-parent to this day. I met someone new, got married at age 19, had twin boys (Kyson & Kaden) and another son (Landen). He cheated, we split ways, & he’s not around much. After juggling life as a single mom of 4 for some time, I met Chris, he had 2 sons: Caden and Tommy, who eventually became my step sons. After Chris and I got married, we had our 7th child together, Addelyn. We’re one big, complicated, blended family & every second of our story is on UA-cam, you can start from the beginning here: • 8 Weeks Pregnant!

    This is a really good sign your dog is being well exercised during the day. We crate trained our dog but would eventually tell her to go in the crate but leave her door open. As long as you can trust her then she should be fine.

  • @meghanhill7152
    @meghanhill7152 Місяць тому +238

    It’s pretty simple Jess. As long as she can be trusted to not have any potty accidents, or getting into things destructively while y’all are sleeping, than just keep her out the crate at night. This means you’re getting a good night sleep with her because she’s draining enough of her energy throughout the day! You’re doing awesome.

    • @itsssmo_
      @itsssmo_ Місяць тому +17

      I used to be a dog trainer and I was thinking the same thing. If she loses that trust, just restart the process and this will teach her that when she is doesn’t have accidents or get into things then she can have more freedom. Every dog is different and everyone’s home life/routines are different. Whatever works for yall is the best. From the videos, it seems like you have a great routine and she is so smart !

      Agreed! Maybe just leave the crate door open at night (even during the day) if she is sleeping around the house, as it can be a safe space for her to go to.

      @@cntaftwe are doing that right now with our newly adopted dog we will let her roam around the house and leave the crate door open so if she wants too she can put herself in the crate to rest and she hasn’t had any problems with it yet so I hope they can eventually just let her free roam without having to keep eyes on her all the time

      Sorry jess if she's feeling overwhelmed or needing space she'll go in by herself...but if you think she is overly hyper then of course you take charge and calm her down by separating her..some dogs like my mom's has separation anxiety and can not be left alone at all..she was a rescue and my mom got her at a shelter ..she was 6 years old and spent most of her life in a crate..to where she lost three teeth from chewing on the bars and a few of her nails are deformed but now she's living her best life..every morning she gets scrambled eggs, and turkey...with rice and carrots..all her meals are home made..not joking my mom loves animals and after my dad died she has more time than she use to..and it helps with the grieving process...her and my daddy were soulmates...my dad would be so proud of her...
      I urge anyone who is thinking about getting a pet PLEASE THINK ABOUT GETTING AN OLDER PET OR A PET WHO WHO IS HANDICAPPED OR BOTH...BIT ONLY DO IT IF YOU HAVE THE THE PATIENCE, RESOURCES OR TIME . PLEASE RESCUE SO MANY ANIMALS NEED GOOD HOMES

    Fish oil really helps with keeping her skin moisturized. Put a little bit in her food if she seems dry and itchy. My dogs have bad seasonal allergies and it could be that, I just noticed she was a bit itchy lol. From a dog groomer and dog mom to another , love you guys 🫶🏻🥹

    I think as long as your dog is potty trained then you're good to let her sleep wherever! It's good that you've crate trained her because she'll always have a safe space to go if she wants to or if you're leaving her alone in the house for a little while. My dog is now 12 and she's been sleeping wherever since she was about 8 months, and she's still happy to sleep in her own bed when we ask her to because that's what she did when she was a puppy!
    I feel like you shouldn't stop dogs sleeping wherever comfortably, they have short lives and they're our babies so I say let them enjoy and sleep in their comfy spots.

Maybe we were wrong, but it usually happened right around 6 months. Honey is so smart and well-behaved. I can't imagine any issues. Our dog hated being crated so he pretty much stopped right away. But he also learned not to have accidents in the house so once you can trust them to not destroy (or block off rooms like you had been) or have accidents then you’re fine to let them not be crated. Or just leave the door open so she can go in and sleep if she wants to. Crates are supposed to be their sanctuary when they’re tired of humans. If she wants to sleep in there great. If she wants to sleep somewhere else let her.

    Hi Jess I am a long time watcher since Lilia was a baby! :D I have 3 doodles at home and I let them sleep where they want, they were only in a crate when they were puppy's and after like they were about 5-7 months old I got rid of it. I put a nice cozy dog bed instead for them to sleep in, but they also just sleep on the floor or the couch! I also wouldn't put a blanket over the entrance of Honey's crate because she'll need fresh air. :D Good luck! Just do whatever works for you and your family!

    As soon as our pup was fully potty trained, knew how to let us know he needed to go out, and didn't chew anything anymore, we did a couple trial nights and then let him stay out of his kennel. After a few trials of leaving him out while we're not home, (he was a bit older then and we of course didn't have anything he could get into that could harm him) we let him stay out while weren't home as well. No specific age, just when they're ready.

    I have two dogs- both who were crate trained. We kept them sleeping in the crates until it was safe for them not to. Basically my oldest dog when he was younger would chew everything in sight so until he stopped he kept him in his crate which was around the age of three. My youngest (who is currently transitioning to sleeping out of his crate) loves to counter surf so we kept him in his crate up until recently because he’s stopped counter surfing and he’s almost four. In my mind it really depends on the dog. If Honey isn’t doing anything bad (such as chewing or counter surfing) then you could start transitioning her to sleeping elsewhere. If at any point she does start misbehaving I would put her back in the crate. For my youngest the only time he will go into his crate is if we have strangers at the house (he’s really affectionate and if they are there to repair something we dont want him to bother them). We have completely gotten rid of my oldest crate but that is also because he is fourteen. It really depends on the dog and their mannerisms!

But as soon as you feel comfortoable she wont potty int he house i think its fine to have her sleep wherever as long as youre home with her. if she slept with the boys and she was fine all through the night then its okay to continue letting her leep outside the crate

    I’m a softie with dogs in crates at night. I’ve crate trained all of my dogs…but I don’t have the heart to not snuggle in bed with them. My current pup I allowed in bed at night starting around 6 months as long as two things were in check. One being she didn’t put up a fuss using the crate during the day when we needed to. My baby is sooo good about the crate and it seems like honey is too so this might not be an issue. The second was that I kept the bedroom doors closed and as long as she didn’t wreak havoc in the room while we slept I let her stay out of the crate at night.

It’s a 4’x4’ crate so it’s basically a mini house for him lol, but he loves his own space. Getting a bigger crate really made him happy. Eventually he will have his own bedroom and I think that’ll be really good for him.

    let her sleep where she wants as long as its safe for both the dog and kids! a dogs life is only short compared to ours and your family will be her whole world, if she wants a cuddle at night then let her have it x

    My dog is crate trained but sleeps with me now but has the option to sleep in his crate if he wants to. We waited until he was potty trained and we knew he wouldn’t chew anything while we were asleep

    We let our golden doodle sleep in our room not in his crate at about 6-7 months. It was when he got neutered and I felt bad about him trying to sleep in his crate with the cone and we knew he could hold his bladder through the night and trusted him to not meander around the apartment/then house or get into anything. He is still crate trained and we put him in his crate anytime we leave the house (for safety not because we don’t trust him) and he’s been great, he’s almost 7 years old now.

    I agree with what most everyone is saying about not needing to crate her at night anymore especially if she's being well behaved and not getting into mischief! Also, dogs are natural pack animals and they love to sleep with their "pack" rather than all alone! You're doing great as a first time dog mom ❤ trust your instincts

    Only crate trained til both of my pups were potty trained and then they only go to the crate if they need a safe place or people come over that they arent super comfortable with. Prolonged crate training confused me because my dogs are our family, but they are also here to protect us if need be ... how are they suppose to do that if they are crated? Just my two cents.

    my dog is 1.5 and crate trained. she fell asleep on the couch about a month ago and i left her because she looked so cozy. she hasn’t slept in her crate at night since, and she does great. as long as you know she can be trusted thats all that matters. my dog still stays in her crate when we’re gone for longer periods. ❤

    My chihuahua was trained to stay on the couch his whole life and he was great about it. He used to cower if put on the tile bc he was like WTF. Then one day he got injured and we were scared to lift him so we trained him it's okay to be off the couch--now that boy owns this entire house, goes where he wants, and commands us to his bidding 😂🤣🤣🥺💙

    My dog was crate trained as a puppy, but once he was fully house trained we took the crate away and he slept with my daughter, but now he sleeps with me and my husband. During the day he sleeps on the couch.

    Every dog is different. If Honey is potty trained and isn’t destructive, then feel free to let her sleep wherever. I have working dogs so they can get themselves in trouble when unsupervised. My now 8 year old was out of the crate for night time at 18 months and while we were gone at 2 years. My younger dog is 16 months old and I’m just now starting to think about it. However, yesterday she pulled a bottle of pancake syrup out of a grocery sack, chewed the lid off and spilled it all over the carpet in broad daylight!

    I’ve never crate trained. We always had non crated dogs. But when they’re new to the house, we start by having small areas for them to roam. Once you know she’s not going to chew stuff up/have bathroom accidents and she can safely be in other rooms, that is when she should be good to roam the house freely and sleep anywhere. If she’s been really good sleeping out of the crate, then I would say she’s happy that way and should be allowed to do so. If she does chew something, then maybe put her back in the crate for a night to remind her to behave. Don’t really know though lol

    all 3 of my dogs are crate trained. 2 of them I can let free-roam and sleep wherever at night. the newest baby is still pretty destructive when she is left alone, so she remains in her crate at night - but she loves it, she is only in it when it is sleep time.

    Don't keep the dog in a crate to sleep in.... She is part of the family. I never had any dog I own in a crate. Let your dog sleep where she is happy & comfortable....
    Let her live a happy life, she isn't hurting a thing!!
    Let your dog cuddle a d cozy up!! A crate is like jail... No pets belong in crates!!! That's my opinion, we always let our dog sleep and curl up with us!! Wouldn't have it any other way ..
    Slow down, life is going too fast!! Slow down!! You will one day wished you spent more home time with your kids and not running all over the place ...
    So breathe life in !!!
