    Village of the dead, is a most appropriate term, the construction of the vaults makes one think of a Village. Beautiful cemetery, surrounded by beautiful countryside. ( I hope the calf was ok.)
    It looked like the roof of one vault completely collapsed. Thank you very much GV and Sue, for a great video. Take care.

    Turf was a very old tradition way of roofing or may have initially been peat blocks laid on slate slabs. I expect the roof of the vaults were arched to help deflect the moisture. A most amazing and unusual cemetery 👍
    I hope everyone had a peaceful Easter 👍

    Beautiful and so unusual Cathal! That was a real treat to be taken with you to visit such an unusual place! How far away is the nearest church? There seem to be quite a number of graves but not a huge variety of different names…nobody else has commented anything about the McQuin or whatever it was.
    I do hope parishioners come and repair the roofs of those two that had lost the slate and grass holding it together…lits too special and important to be left to rot and ruin. Maybe there is a government restoration grant towards it?
    Well I thoroughly enjoyed somewhere completely different! Thankyou both so much. Do hope you found a farmer to
    Come and rescue that little calf…if he’d had no milk for a while he’d be feeling rather weak, poor little thing. Didn’t see any other cattle nearby…..a GV mystery! Starring Cathal Sherlock Holmes with his trusty support! Serenity Sue Watson! Lol…..you need the big magnifying glass and the deerstalker hat to look the part GV! Thanks again! Love and Light, Helen in Norfolk, U.K. 🙋‍♀️🥰🥰💕💐🙏🦋🦋😻👏🏻😻💐😻😻xxxxxx

    I am wondering what causes the coffins in old vaults to get broken and the remains to get scattered. I have concluded that rats might enter via cracks in the stonework and cause the damage. It is a terrible thought, but I do not know how else it could be exp!ained.
    Excellent video and beautiful Irish scenery near the graveyard.

    • @GraveVisitations
      @GraveVisitations  Рік тому +6

      Hi John, natural decay and damp weather in Ireland plays a big factor in these coffins ending up like that. Looked like a few coffins in that vault so I'm presuming the one in the corner disintegrated were it stood hence the bones.

    This has to be one of the most beautiful grave yards I have ever seen especially the house styled vaults. It gives you the idea that the people have all congregate around a table like they would have when they were at their home.

    Those particular Mulqueens are from two distinct families: Sinon Mulqueen who married Mary Gorman, and another Sinon Mulqueen who married a Miss Browne and had a son, also named Sinon. Then that same Sinon Sr remarried to a Margaret McDonald and had 2 sons, Matthew and Michael. Some of each of those children emigrated to Manhattan, New York (hence the statue of liberty). The brown flat part of the field that can be seen behind the graveyard is Senan"s Lough, where you will find St. Senan's Holy Well. In this part of County Clare, you will see many Senans, Sinons, Seanans. The church in both Kilrush and in Knockerra are both called St Senan's. Within eyesight of this graveyard, the original Saint Senan was born. Amazing video!
