Awich is Okinawan, had a child with an American, and just days after he was released from incarceration, was murdered in Atlanta, Georgia where they lived. She tells that story in her M/V Queendom. Awich speaks English and like the XG girls, is Xtra-ordinary! Due to the US Military presence on Okinawa since the end of WWII, American music culture, from Jazz, Rock & Roll, R&B, POP, Hip Hop & Rap has thrived and influenced Okinawan artists over the decades.
You're missing out half of your life not knowing AWICH. The Queen of Japanese Hiphop. Her discography is insane. Her, OZWORLD and Cocona are both from OKINAWA 🔥🔥🔥
J-Pop/J-Hiphop fan here! Thank you for reacting to the Woke Up Remix! I feel that this remix is more of a tribute to XG, which is why the girls aren't in here. Regarding Awich - she is the Queen of J-hiphop. A few days ago in one of Awich's lives, the XG rap line made a surprise appearance and performed Woke Up w/ Awich's verse from the remix. Pls do check that out! Awich has been in the scene since 2000 (underground scene), so she's a straight-up legend among the female Japanese rappers. She hailed from Okinawa, discovered hiphop as a child (thanks to the U.S. military bases in her hometown), she idolized Tupac. She moved to Atlanta for college, met and married a man from the "wrong side of town", and had a daughter. Unfortunately, her husband died. She and her daughter moved back to Okinawa, then started her career and the rest is history. Just a few tracks to share as a start: "Queendom" (she shares her life story here), "Rasen in Okinawa" (Okinawan cypher with OZWorld, Tsubaki, Chico Carlito), "Longiness Remix" (w/ Suglawd Familiar and Chico Carlito), "Gila Gila" (w/ JP the Wavy and YZERR), "Bad B*tch Bigaku Remix" (w/ Nene, Lana, MaRi, AI, Yuriyan Retriever), "BoSS RuN DeM" (w/ Kojoe, Akane). There's a lot more, so I leave the searching for you😊 The other J-rappers in this remix, you're already familiar with Verbal. Imo I think he's the most "veteran" of this entire lineup (been around since the 1990s). He formed m-flo (w/ vocalist Lisa and DJ Taku Takahashi) and does a lot of collabs ("m-flo loves" series) w/ many artists. I hope to see an "m-flo loves XG" collab w/ the girls one day. He's also a member of Teriyaki Boyz, which, as you already know, became popular because of "Tokyo Drift." AKLO is a half-Mexican Japanese rapper who is Trilingual (Japanese, Spanish, English). He was born in Tokyo, grew up in Mexico City, moved back to Tokyo. He adds a little bit of the Latin Flavor in some of his tracks, like what you heard from this remix, for example. OZWorld is the youngest of the lineup (born in 1997). Also from Okinawa like Awich (and XG Cocona), he is known for being a proud native Okinawan (the "dragons on my skin" line refers to his dragon tattoos that represent his Okinawan heritage), and his tracks has that Okinawan vibe that can sound like he is meditating or telling an ancient folk tale in song and chanting. Along with "Rasen in Okinawa," check out NINOKUNI, MIKOTO - SUN NO KUNI (w/ Awich and Tsubaki), to start off. He raps in 3 languages: Japanese, Okinawan, and English. Hope this helps😊
Jurin, coco, Harvey and Maya performed their verses with Awich live. It was epic! You should check it out. Just to see the girls out of the alphabet-PoP world and step into the actual Hip HOp world with Awich… surreal
I saw AWICH at HITC NY this year, she's is the GOAT of J-Rap. It was a really great show, you should definitely check her out!!! Also, there a video of the XG Rap line and AWICH performing this live. It's from a couple of days ago.
If you want a good introduction to awich my suggestion is her collab with OZ world and others artist called rasen Okinawa. Okinawa is one of japans island that were hit during the war with America, even mainland has trouble understanding their accent. Okinawa have a lot of love for hip hop and rap❤🎉
That part with paloalto is so true. And I see a lot of OG’s show love to idols and idol rappers a lot these days because they also see think what you think and a lot of us that have brains think.
Bro! Borrowing the momentum from this video, you should check out Rasen in Okinawa. It's almost like an Okinawan Cypher. Awich and Ozworld featured there too.
Also we gotta get you into some Awich, she is so dope. And she does have a little southern in her voice, she spent a lot of time down south when she moved over here for a little while. Check out her song Queendom, give you a little introduction to her life a little bit
I want to say on the jay park thing the real god father is tiger jk. He really helped build the khh scene with his wife who is known as the godmother of hiphop there. Also, yeah shoutout to the Japanese rappers. Ozworld im pretty sure uses traditional language I believe. Overall yeah a lot of talented Japanese rappers
Oh I know Tiger is the actual Godfather, that intro to Jay's killing verse lives rent free in my head. He's obviously also put people on, and elevated Korean Hip hop's popularity in a way that I feel nobody else has so still kinda works. My knowledge of Japanese hip hop is limited to a few names like Zebra and Chanmina but I like a lot of what I've heard.
If you were referring to "Rasen in Okinawa," OZWorld was rapping in Okinawan (native language completely different from Japanese). But most of his tracks are mixed modern Japanese and English.
25:44 Tak is a part of "Baechigi", a hip-hop duo. Baechigi have some amazing features with female vocalists like Ailee (Shower of tears) and Hwasa (Generation jump). You definitely should react to them. Also, have you. Checked out d&e's new album and title track? It's been a while since you've done a Suju reaction lol
K-HIP HOP + J-HIP HOP CYPHER ON AN XG BEAT?!
