That's true. But I think Nik is right to show students with different levels. Ema is the former pro athlete. Shamir is the gifted, but lazy recreational 4.5 guy. There was this female beginner student (beautiful black woman) plus the other female beginner player. And there is the very gifted female latina player. Only two type of players are missing: a teenager or child between 10 and 14 learning the fundamentals and an ambitious mid ager (30 to 45) who is 3.5 to 4.0 trying to compete for 4.5 which is probably the majority of viewers here.

Good tip Nic. Need to remind myself of holding on to the throat instead of just releasing it immediately

Coaches have told me to step in with the right foot on a backhand volley and the left foot on a forehand (I'm right handed). However I notice Emma is standing quite open. Any thoughts on this, Nik?

In short it is situational dependent. You strive for right foot and for learning it is absolutely correct. If you get a slow ball you need to accelerate your racquet is fixed and the weight transfer accelerates your volley, not the arm movement or at least that is the order of your priorities for a good volley. With stepping in right you can transfer weight and better than more open, but the incoming angle and speed determines what is possible in each situation. Even Nick on his relaxed coaching volley does it with small weight transfers you develop over time.

Oh my goodness, she plays extremely similar to Caroline Wozniaki! Just a bit less agile and lightfooted on the footwork, maybe something to practice on?

Sorry to be "that guy" again but Ema's movement is not very explosive. Easy feeds will work on the striking mechanics but in a match she will have to get to those balls and strike them while being close to out of breath. Fitness is something that builds up faster than technique so I would put emphasis on kicking her ass a bit more during practice. Less talking, more hustle !

Ema needs to close the backhand racquet angle and practice hitting flatter volleys.
