It's two days after this photo walk, and my finger feels okay. But I think I damaged it somehow, because my sensation in the finger is lower than before, and the finger feels "different". Be very careful in these temperatures!

In extreme cold, mittens are better than gloves at keeping the fingers warm.

I don't know how bad you got it, but I had a similar situation when I was in college going to class in the winter. I eventually got all my sensation back in the fingers, but it took a while. It's dangerous for sure.

I certainly have a newfound respect for cold weather now! Will be more careful

In cold conditions here I've had the blood supply to just one finger clamp off, and it went white as a sheet and numb, lol. It came back after about half an hour of trying to warm it up.
I think that's an extreme version of the regular peripheral vasoconstriction reflex we have in cold conditions that keeps our core warm.

Great video. The reason Halide is giving you 12mp is because it’s doing pixel binning to capture more light. I believe that’s how the iPhone 14/15 work. The iPhone camera app is compensating with background bracketing and some intense computation. Halide is also giving you a RAW, sounds like you’re using JPEG in the native camera app?

You should invest in some inexpensive battery op hand warmers or the packet ones for the future. Nice shots! 😎

Beautiful set of photos! And I love your frozen beard 😂 And the experiment, WOW!! Always made me curious how actually people (like eg Samiska) survive in so low temperatures?!

I certainly have a new respect for these temperatures, which I didn't have before this photo walk.

Beautiful foto of the trees 🤩but I wonder why you don’t shoot in Raw with your IPhone 15.

Long exposures, light painting? Pretty time, many options ~ sorry about the finger! Time for a heated jacket or vest, my wife love's hers. When I was a kid playing hockey at -20F, we'd circle our arms like a propeller to force blood into our fingers, worked perfectly.

Yeah, I'm just not leaving the house. Luckily it will be warmer next week when I actually have to.

I've had some issues with my toes at some point, staying outside too long in cold weather and perhaps not enough blood circulation. A numb feeling that persisted a while.
    Sometimes it would return.
But by now my toes seem totally fine again.
So I'm sure that even if it takes a while for that "off" feeling to fully go away, your finger will recover.

Yeah a few days later now and the finger feels almost back to normal again.

Enjoyed your nightime walk, and your bravery for enduring that cold (we rarely get below 0 degrees). I do like snowy scenes, and the instant snow you made, makes me glad to be indoors. What about some macro snowflakes ?

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  6 місяців тому

I don’t have any macro equipment here unfortunately. Also, macro snowflakes are really hard. It needs to be snowing and it needs to be the right kind of snow. I have a video about it if you search.

It's cold here in Finland too. I used my Nokia XR21 with gloves on to make photos and video. Didn't spend more than one hour out in the cold. Beautiful shots!

This one was a bit special and what beautiful pictures you captured with your iPhone. The scenery looks dramatic in those temperatures, but please be careful. In England we just have rain!

The IPhone images seem almost flash lit, they are great in the dark environment. Living in the UK those temperatures are crazy, you might have to invest in some battery heated gloves for the next adventure me thinks😎

I think the very peculiar light in the photos is due to the street lights getting reflected in the large flat snow areas, so it becomes like a very very big softbox from below

Awesome images! You are much braver than me, I don’t think that I could go out in those temperatures. I did have to laugh at the ice on your beard! 😂

What's the battery life on the 'phone at those sorts of temperatures? Wonderful images Micael. Meanwhile in my part of the UK we have just come through the wetest December in over a 100 years. Miserable mud and leaking roofs, flooded homes, fields. Hey ho 🥺

The iPhone 15 seems to handle the cold very well! At least from what I have seen so far. Some older versions, like iPhone 6 or so, had major problems with cold weather. Often unusable in just -5 degrees celsius.
